@YetAnotherSpartacus

Look, we all have things we love doing that have been taken away from us. The government isn’t “abusive” - they are protecting people from the virus and doing their best

I disagree that the government did its best. It acted too late, and, initially not hard enough and then it prevaricated.

But lockdowns and restrictions are not 'abuse' (for the love of the Goddess) - they are and were necessary to protect us from a disease that killed many and would have killed more without the restrictions.

Yep. And I'm getting quite fed up of all the Gilead and Nazi Germany comparisons on the Covid threads - and it's bizarre that this kind of talk seems to be increasing now restrictions are lifting. It makes me wonder whether some people get a kick out of pretending they're living in an actual dictatorship.
everybodysang · 10/04/2021 10:44

I think I am usually pretty empathetic but this thread has made me laugh quite a lot. Grow the fuck up, the lot of you.

itsgettingwierd · 10/04/2021 10:50

This is also all over the internet and we even have

AllHairMatters being banded about.

It's guidance.

No one has said you can't do colour and cut. No one has said you can't do black hair because it takes longer. (Article I read)

It's just people like to have a tantrum over things they don't even really seem to understand.

Guidance is not law.

This is a public health crisis and within the law they must publish guidance about how to possibly reduce the risks. Less time in a room is just one.

There's nowhere that says by law you must only spend 20 minutes per customer and you must only cut their hair.

Cam2020 · 10/04/2021 10:50

Hair is everything, Anthony.

Not if you shave it all off as OP has, suggested! Best suggestion so far, should just run with it.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 10/04/2021 10:51

Yes, I wonder that too.

I also just think there are a lot of clueless people. I mean I grew up with family stories of actual hardship, war, death and fear and my closest friends and/or their families lived in Nazi and/or Soviet dictatorships. The daily life and actual and well-founded fear of persecution has had lifelong effects with PTSD and some ( think they are persecuted because they have been asked to isolate to stop a deadly disease.

Give.me.a.fucking.break.

They really do need a good dose of the Total Perspective Vortex.

MyDcAreMarvel · 10/04/2021 10:54

@nonono1
As soon as the top nine groups (so 32 million people approx) have been fully vaccinated, that should be it. No more restrictions, no more working from home, no more using Covid as an excuse for stupid rules and rubbish service. Back to 100% normality
Why do people keep trotting this out, many vulnerable people cannot be vaccinated. Of those the are many of the most at risk will not have a good enough immune response for the vaccine to be effective.
Or do you just not care about those 2/3 million people as long as the nhs isn’t overloaded?

moochingtothepub · 10/04/2021 11:01

Many hairdressers are taking this approach anyway, mine and several other local ones are doing wash and cut (no dry) for the first 2 weeks to maximise the number of clients per day because they are desperate to get a cut. Mine said if I wanted colour I needed to wait until the first week May which I thought was fair enough. Mine is a neighbour and she is very concerned about balancing the risk for her clients, herself and trying to get as many cut as possible not helped by her kids still being off so she can only take clients she knows well (home salon). Give hairdressers a break, and give the government a break, they can only offer what information they are given and guidance is just that. I'm getting a cut now and colour in a few weeks (but might not because getting used to the grey)

peak2021 · 10/04/2021 11:04

Do you expect the Prime Minister to do detail? Or even to care, given he is not even prepared to comb his hair when paying tribute to the late Duke of Edinburgh?

OP and everyone else, please if you have elections in your area on May 6th express your opinion by voting for someone other than the Tories.

MyDcAreMarvel · 10/04/2021 11:05

@ComDummings
And for those saying you can’t complain because people have died fuck you. Many of us have had friends or relatives die from this and do actually still care about ‘small’ things, we still think the lockdowns have been like psychological abuse and are worried about if the restrictions becoming a massive abuse of power
No many of us have had love ones die and do not think lockdown is an abuse of power. Do you think people saying that haven’t lost loves ones?
The lockdowns saved many thousands of lives.
You can care about appearances, personally have lost love ones be really keen to get your hair done, feel self conscious about your appearance and still think peoples lives are more important than our own selfish wants.
I would love my hair done but it is not a need, nor is it for anyone else.
A person who has a limited immune response to the vaccine has a need and a right to function in society that is as safe as possible for them.
Eventually when every adult is vaccinated the risk to those people will hopefully be lower. That hasn’t happened yet.
This pandemic has highlighted the polar opposite of personalities those that would sacrifice so much for others, and those who won't even “sacrifice” a professional hair colour.

ComDummings · 10/04/2021 11:06

The lockdowns have cost thousands of lives too.

ComDummings · 10/04/2021 11:07

And anyway I was very pro lockdown this time last year. Not any more. It’s destroying people. But anyway that’s not for this thread really.

Hairwizard · 10/04/2021 11:07

Yea not going to happen. Higlights etc are the money makers. They can get to fuck. Businesses have suffered enough and many barely going to make it through this year as it is.

Robin233 · 10/04/2021 11:10
  • it's appalling you can't have your hair coloured
*but you can......
  • absolutely disgusting
* but you can get your high lights.
  • this is the final straw
* there is no 'straw'
mustlovegin · 10/04/2021 11:15

if you have elections in your area on May 6th

This is what all the frothing and posting is about, isn't it? Not about 'highlights' and 'dyeing hair'

Stop the activism, please

bishbashbosh99 · 10/04/2021 11:16

Christ

Robin233 · 10/04/2021 11:17

And my bestie is getting hers done next Saturday
Better she'll look lovely too.
I've now had walks with my aunty and spent an afternoon with 3 mates in the garden.
The weather is getting better and the nights are drawing out.
I know it been shit but I find by focussing on what I can do and am doing I'm coping better.

TheBlackTower · 10/04/2021 11:18

@MercyBooth you really need to calm down and rationalise this. With respect, it sounds like you have bigger issues to deal with than getting your highlights done.

Redruby2020 · 10/04/2021 11:23

@Womencanlift

Yeah that won’t be happening. As pp said it’s guidelines not law. My mum had highlights yesterday and I’m booked in for tomorrow. Can’t come quick enough.
So they are open now? I guess that depends where you live
Redruby2020 · 10/04/2021 11:24

@MercyBooth

Im fucking sick of how we are all being shat on and shat on and shat on. The sacrifices the public have made and the abuse from them just keeps on coming.
Abuse from who
Redruby2020 · 10/04/2021 11:27

@MercyBooth

Im a brunette. Its not an extreme reaction. Its the only regular treat i have. I dont go abroad. My hair is bloody thick and unmanageable. Feeling like a scruffy tramp. Being psychologically abused by the twats in power, struggling in a mask, being treated like a bio hazard/ATM machine................ive been comfort eating and gained weight Weight i had started to lose when i started going back to the salon regularly last September.
I agree, it's not just as simple as, well it's only your hair, it goes much deeper than that, it has gone on far too long now, and people are suffering badly in so many ways, no one agrees because most know someone who has had Covid or had it themselves, and no one believes because why would the government put the economy in grave danger. This is about controlling us, and also trying to finish people off.
Biscoffontoast · 10/04/2021 11:32

Simple solution - go to a mobile hairdresser. Mine is fantastic (used to work in a proper salon) and I’m seeing her next week to get my scarecrow locks cut and coloured. Cannot wait!!!

Simple solution is to just book an appointment with their normal hairdresser because no one is stopping anyone from having highlights.
PickAChew · 10/04/2021 12:21

Thanks for the unnecessary lecture, @witchesbritchespumpkinpants.

It is not reducing risk for someone to be in close contact with 10 clients through the day than 4 or 5.

Dowser · 10/04/2021 12:22

@MercyBooth

Im booked in next Wednesday. Gilead (England) Ive got to go in on Monday morning for a skin test because its not been done for over four months. Salons have always bent over backwards to be safe and have spent so much on Covid safe PPE. But yeah wimmins things innit.
Exactly what I said. Gilead. Women. Was lucky to get mine done a couple of weeks ago
Againstmachine · 10/04/2021 12:24

It's guidance, and you should treat it like any other guidance that is illogical, ignore it.
