Which areas are booking vaccines for over 40s?

Hi.
Am hearing that some over 40s are getting invited to book vaccines now.

If you have been invited, would you mind saying where you are please (don’t be precise if you don’t want to) and if you’ve been invited to book via local booking system that gives you appointments at the local centres, or via the national booking system to the mass centres/pharmacies.

My DH and I are late 40s and just so confused about what is going on. We were deflated by the news last week about the delays, but lots of people, still seem to be invited, it we can’t work out if it’s in our area and if locally led based on GP surgeries inviting or the national system letting some younger people book.

Hoping there are lots of you out there getting invited and it will be our turn soon too. Thanks.

Derbyshire have been inviting over 40s for almost a week now. I have had mine but am only early 40s

katkit · 30/03/2021 00:08

Dorset- text from GP, was told the time it’d be- not offered a booking option.

@Paddingtonthebear

I’m not convinced about the demographic theory. We live in a south coast area with a high proportion of retired/elderly people and everyone I know 40yrs upwards has had first vaccine in the last week or two.
Number of elderly is more relevant than proportion. For example London has a lowish proportion of elderly but still more elderly in total numbers than a seaside town.
whitestarflower · 30/03/2021 07:56

@HamCob

I'm 40 and had my text inviting me to book this morning as did all of my 40+ friends. I'd had my jab by 1pm! This was for one of the large vaccine hubs in the east mids. I was really surprised to be honest but then they've been flying through them here since the off.
I think lower take up rates mean they’re getting through them more quickly in the East Midlands. My family are there, and take up rates have been lower in some parts than in many other areas - there was a BBC article on this recently.

Where I live there is a large elderly population and take up rate is high so it’s taking much longer to get through the age groups.

I know a few over 40s in Derby who were invited yesterday, and one who had it last week. Limited appointments available though, could only book for last night or today (at mass vaccination centre) I had mine last week (unpaid carer) and I had the choice of pretty much any day or time all week. Don’t know if it makes a difference but mine was booked through the NHS site, the over 40s I know had to book through swift queue

toolatetooearly · 30/03/2021 10:12

Enfield, north London. I'm a healthy 46 and had my first jab 2 weeks ago. My friend asked the nurse when he got is, and she just said they were racing through them.

JustMeAndWheatley · 30/03/2021 12:49

Dh got invited for his today. He’s 49. Nottinghamshire

alwayswantchocolate · 30/03/2021 14:13

Central Bedfordshire, age 45 - invited Friday by GP text, had vaccine yesterday

ShinyMe · 30/03/2021 16:40

I'd also wondered if some areas are getting more vaccines because of higher rates of infection, which would make sense. I know in our area (Derbyshire) and above us in Yorkshire, rates are going up again.

WombatChocolate · 30/03/2021 18:07

Here in our bit of Surrey, it seemed like they weren't going out to under 50s even if they were in neighbouring areas.

Today I've had a success. I'd spotted through the CCG site that a new pharmacy deliverer was opening up last week. DH (49) phoned at 5.30 to see if they had any spares or he could join a waiting list. He mentioned he could be there in 5 mins. They quizzed him about age and then said they had 1 dose left and close at 6pm, so get int he car and come now.

We leapt in the car and he had AZ and we were home by 5.50pm. Can't quite believe it because I'd been tracking the national booking site for weeks and was so disappointed 10 days ago when it went from it looking like he'd get it done last week, to then looking like the delay could mean MaY. And then all those other areas booking all over 40s was both encouraging and frustrating.

So, if you're upper 40s and waiting, look at your local CCG webpage to identify all the vaccine sites. If there are pharmacies see if one is near you and check out is closing time and if you can get there fast, give a ring at about 30 mins before closing to see if they have spares or will put you on a waiting list. It might just work. I'd heard of other pharmacies having 3 spare diesels in their vial and today it was just 1, but it's work a phone call if you're close to the cut off age and can get there quick.

He told the pharmacist that he'd made his day. It made mine too.

I am so pleased for you wombat I really am. I know you've been waiting for a long time.
I was disappointed too. I volunteer at a clinic and watched lots of under 50 year olds get done last week. I nearly got one that day but they ran out. Now supposed to be on a back up list but no joy so far....
Aren't you nearly due too?

Wishihadanalgorithm · 30/03/2021 18:25

47 South Warwickshire - got GP text yesterday’s be booked for Saturday. I’m a bit behind a lot of my friends. A colleague in his 20s had his weeks ago - no underlying conditions and he is not sure why he had his!

WombatChocolate · 30/03/2021 18:33

Thanks sleepwouldbenice. As a vounteer, you should be I the right place for some spares. Hope you don't have to wait too long.

I was actually done 5 weeks ago as part of Group 6. Somehow ough I've been more worried about my DH. Not really sure why.

I will keep celebrating every success.

Really pleased for you. I didn't want it at first to be honest, there were plenty more people who really needed it, and from the odd post on here there still are....
But now I am just hacked off Grin

DrMadelineMaxwell · 30/03/2021 21:14

Sigh...they haven't even started doing group 9 at our gps here, so they will be starting to invite 50-55s to the vaccine hub in a few weeks time.

Sewfrickinamazeballs · 30/03/2021 21:18

Yateley, 48

Can you not book using the website?
WombatChocolate · 30/03/2021 21:38

Are you in England? Everyone 50 and over is eligible to book using the national booking site. You dont need to wait for a specific Invitation.

You should be able to do it right now.

Scotland, Wales and Ireland have a different system.

Catslovepies · 30/03/2021 21:45

I'm 48 and still haven't been invited but I live in a popular retirement town so at least now I know why.

For those who have had first jabs due to leftover doses do you know when you'll get your second doses?

I would try ringing round vaccination centres but I'm hopeful that the Moderna vaccine will start arriving soon.

SwatchIt · 30/03/2021 21:46

I have friends in Bournemouth in their 30s who have now had theirs.

Oldmrswasherwoman · 30/03/2021 21:52

Derby, age 40, had the text yesterday, vaccine today. So overwhelmed I quietly sobbed with relief and pretty much from arriving to leaving. I hope everyone gets theirs soon.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 30/03/2021 22:51

Wales.
No centralised booking facility online. And they have put an effort into vaccinating a higher % of 2nd doses, which reduces the 1st Doses they can give. This means they are going to be struggling to have done up to and inc group 9 by mid april. The dip in supply is already becoming evident in the numbers they are reporting who have been vaccinated..

Duckyface · 30/03/2021 22:59

46 with asthma and a condition that affects my immune system but not enough to matter apparently (although other countries count it). No vaccine here.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 30/03/2021 23:02

North Derbyshire - got a text from the GPs' surgery on Friday, booked jab for tomorrow. DP is in the over 50s group and booked online via the NHS website and had had the jab before the GP contacted him.

EasterIssland · 31/03/2021 12:25

Just seen on BBC
People aged from 45 to 49 are now eligible for Covid-19 vaccinations in Northern Ireland
