Which areas are booking vaccines for over 40s?

Hi.
Am hearing that some over 40s are getting invited to book vaccines now.

If you have been invited, would you mind saying where you are please (don’t be precise if you don’t want to) and if you’ve been invited to book via local booking system that gives you appointments at the local centres, or via the national booking system to the mass centres/pharmacies.

My DH and I are late 40s and just so confused about what is going on. We were deflated by the news last week about the delays, but lots of people, still seem to be invited, it we can’t work out if it’s in our area and if locally led based on GP surgeries inviting or the national system letting some younger people book.

Hoping there are lots of you out there getting invited and it will be our turn soon too. Thanks.

@Hornbeamer we are Waverley too. Loads of my friends aged 45 now invited and booked in. Not us. The only difference I can think of is that we are at different surgeries but it’s so frustrating. I know every person vaccinated is good for us all but it is hard seeing friends getting done and still not hearing anything. I went to G Live in Guildford during the week as they were doing walk in vaccinations for people in Waverley and Guildford aged 45+. But I was too late and they had run out (it was really, really busy).

WombatChocolate · 27/03/2021 09:23

Has anyone in east Surrey heard anything please? There have been walk-ins this week but only for 50+ as far as I can tell.

I feel like time is running out and the big delay will then start.

I’m amazed at this.

My friend 62 only got done last week.

My appointment was initially for 22nd March but l managed to change it to earlier. I’m 57

Sil 58 had hers on Saturday. Some places are still doing over 55.

Someone in their 59’s tried to book into the local huge vaccination hub. No slots, and they are having to travel 40 miles. The hub is huge, it’s for exhibitions and massive music stars. Dd saw Katy Perry there 2 years ago. It’s ginormous, but no slotsHmm

It's a shame as East Surrey were racing through the ages at one point and invited 50 year olds over 2 weeks ago but the invitations seem to have just stopped.

Hornbeamer · 27/03/2021 10:13

@mrsknottschicken - my husband was at g-live on Thursday afternoon too for his appt. he said it was quite quiet at 4pm. I was gutted as I didn't see the social media posts until the afternoon. We are at the same surgery and more or less the same age and younger friends at the same surgery have been called up already. I know it's great they have been done, but I feel anxious they might miss me! There seems to be no rhyme nor reason!

MrsSiba · 27/03/2021 10:16

My husband is late 40s and was invited for and had his jab about 2 weeks ago.

We are in Liverpool.

Theforest · 27/03/2021 10:19

Not here in Wiltshire. Being 49 is very frustrating right now Angry

Sometimes people are called in alphabetical order - could that be the case?

Friend of mine who's 51 got vaccinated on Thurs and her DH, aged 49, got done before here when he rang their surgery to ask when he'd be eligible. Might be worth a call if you're late 40s ...

As a vaccination centre volunteer I can tell you that it's worth asking if there are any spares around half an hour before that clinic is due to close. Some clinics are VERY strict about criteria, but I read in the DM this morning that GPs are being told they can use up doses/batches now on over 40s. So if you were to happen to be in the right place at the right time or to have called up the surgery to make an enquiry you might get lucky. Fortune favours the brave and all that!

chocolateisavegetable · 27/03/2021 10:30

Relatives who are late 40s and no underlying health conditions have been booked in Hampshire (not due to left overs at the end of the day)

Must be so frustrating for you. I saw the social media post mid-morning and first tried to work out if it was true or not. If I had not dithered maybe I would have had a chance, but it was very busy and there were at least 30 ahead of me in the queue.

They must have been using up vaccines because a volunteer there said that weekend shifts at G Live had been cancelled.

My friends all have appointments this weekend or next week.

@jellyjellyinmybelly

Husband is a gp in Oxfordshire and they've done all their 50+. His surgery were told by national authority (jcvi I think?) at 6.20pm yesterday that they were allowed to use the 90 Pfizer doses they'd been given on 49 year olds. It all expired tonight! Luckily they managed to book enough 49 year olds in to use it all today. They're not allowed to bring forward second doses.

He's frustrated to hear of all you guys being offered it as the powers that be have been so strict with them about not going below 50 until now.

My whole school staff team were invited in this week by a local GPs surgery, including teachers in their 20s. That might sound annoying (and is, in some ways) but bear in mind the reason was they had spare vaccines that apparently had to be used up very soon or be thrown away. And obviously teachers are now working in large groups of 30 pupils. Personally, would think it should have been limited to those aged 40+ though.
Juanbablo · 27/03/2021 13:43

I'm in south Oxfordshire, I'm 33 and I was called for my vaccine last week. So was dh who is 35. Neither of us have any issues that would make us eligible that we know of. Loads of people in our area were called for the vaccine last Friday. I asked why we were being invited and the nurse said she didn't know, we were just on the list!

badluckandtrouble · 27/03/2021 13:54

Derbyshire are on to 40s apparently. My sister and her friends (not in Derbyshire) are all booking using a forwarded swiftqueue link for Chesterfield and think I'm mad for not doing the same. I genuinely don't want to lie or cheat the system though. Maybe I'm being daft.

FionaJT · 27/03/2021 14:04

North Somerset, 47, jabbed this morning and was invited to book by the GP 10 days ago. They've been doing regular FB updates throughout, and said that they had worked through all their Group 1-6 patients and would start inviting others to use up the batches they had available. They did clinics last Sat & today, which were presumably all 40+ patients.

3asAbird · 27/03/2021 14:17

Bristol depends where you live both me and husband in 40s hes nearer toward 50 than me 48.
Some areas ahead but area my surgery is in is behind and told group 6 is large.
Other areas Bristol doing 40s.
Surgery closes to where I live apparently doing 40s.
I moved house but remained old doctors as not far not sure if should move Surgery.
If its few weeks ok but if its may or June .
Its bit frustrating as 3 kids back in school and non essential retail open on 12th and husband works non essential retail just seems really unfair.

3asAbird · 27/03/2021 14:29

@EasterIssland

Friend in Bristol city centre aged 28 or so got a call today Meanwhile my husband 43 in other part of Bristol hasn’t been called
Same here feeling frustrated. Depends on what surgery and how many elderly in your area. I guess not many live in the centre.
phlebasconsidered · 27/03/2021 16:24

49 in Cambridgeshire. Asthmatic teacher. I even drove to a centre to ask about end of day spares and got told no, i'm 49.

Given that bubbles in my school are popping all over the shop, I am getting very pissed off at the postcode lottery right now.

HSHorror · 27/03/2021 16:41

As they are running lut it probably should have switched to national booking which then goes down by age.
I wonder if that is allowing even 49 year olds on that.

Tried my 48 year old husband on website ineligible. Some surgeries my area doing 40 to 50 last week. My surgery still on group 6.
Randominternetbitch · 27/03/2021 20:39

40, in Bucks, had the jab on Friday. DH is 43 and got a text to book from our surgery last week. He has no underlying health issues as far as we know. I went with him to his appointment and they asked if I wanted it too. I said yes and that’s how I got mine.

Theforest · 28/03/2021 09:28

Has anyone under 50 been able to book on the national booking system rather than being called by GP?

Hopeful reports on Moderna arriving in April and will have to be used for this group and not second doses.

EasterIssland · 28/03/2021 09:38

People under 50 in the UK will begin to be offered Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine within three weeks, according to a report in the Mail on Sunday.

More than 500,000 new doses of the US vaccine will be used to expanded the programme to people in lower age cohorts in mid-April, the paper says.

Doctors are expected to administer the first doses of the new vaccine, which will join Pfizer and AstraZeneca in the UK’s vaccine stocks, within three weeks.

Just seen this.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 28/03/2021 10:31

I find this disparity really unfair.

Sil is a teacher, bubbles popping all over her school. She’s 44. Her Dh is 48 and has bad asthma but not eligible under CV. Yet people in their 30’s are being done.

Maybe where l live in S. Yorks is extra slow?

I’ve tried, no luck. I’ve got 3 friends aged 45 who live near me who did use the national site to book, but only after having had a text first.
Liv2015 · 28/03/2021 13:35

Me & dh, 43 & 47 got ours yesterday. We’re in Lincolnshire got a text from the gps.
