Can this be true? Tons of people lying to get vaccine.

My mum has just told me that my dodgy cousin (about 30) has just had his vaccine with all of his builder mates by lying and saying they are ‘unpaid carers’ on the nhs website. She said no one bothered to check any of them.
Firstly, how bloody outrageous of them pulling the wool over the vaccine centres eyes and secondly, why isn’t their any check, however minor?
I know we all need to get done eventually but this has really pissed me off.

I'd be surprised if it's lots of people. The vax rollout in the UK is so fast, the 30s will be eligible to get theirs soon enough. I don't think many people would take the risk of getting caught rather than just wait a few more weeks.

Vivana · 22/03/2021 05:50

And this is why us real carers in group 1 are still waiting for there second appointment. Had my first one 7th January and still waiting

Underhisi · 22/03/2021 06:15

"All unpaid carers aren't eligible. Just those who care for someone on the shielding list."

That isn't what the government advice pages say and that isn't what the green book says. Both also include clinically vulnerable and the green book specifically mentions children with a condition that isn't a shielding condition.

The eligibility criteria regarding unpaid carers has not been clear and consistent throughout though and it has moved away from the care being provided for someone who would be at risk if it wasn't provided which was the original criteria.

I was eligible because I get CA for ds. Dh was eligible because our GP had him marked down as carer for ds because of the amount of care ds needs.

Nothing that's been discussed affects your second dose, second doses are prioritised above first doses once it gets to 11 weeks. Contact your GP or 119 because you should be invited this week or next week.
Underhisi · 22/03/2021 06:33

"And this is why us real carers in group 1 are still waiting for there second appointment. Had my first one 7th January and still waiting"

It's paid carer not real carer. Unpaid carers are equally real.

motherrunner · 22/03/2021 06:37

My colleague’s under 40 estate agent friend had the vaccine last week by selecting the ‘unpaid carer’ box and wasn’t challenged. It is happening.

motherrunner · 22/03/2021 06:39

Amir Kahn did the same (he took a hammering on Twitter). His mum does have cancer but he doesn’t live with her ... had it in case he’s needed to support her.

FedNlanders · 22/03/2021 07:23

I've had both now. No proof asked. I just went to the walk in centre. No booking needed. I am actually a care home worker, but I didnt book online or provide proof.

Whatever9999 · 22/03/2021 07:24

@Icantrememebrtheartist

Yep I know people who have done this.

My neighbours had their children at school for the last lockdown (UK) because she didn’t want them at home like the first lockdown. She isn’t a key worker or a carer, she just has no interest in looking after her children aged 5 and 8.

So you know every detail of your neighbours life do you??

I sent my children in this lockdown, I'm not a keyworker. But the older child is autistic and the younger one lives in an autistic household (I'm autistic too), and was struggling and the school offered him a place.
MEeting our family you probably wouldn't immediately realise our problems, doesn't mean they don't exist though (and it wouldn't actually take you long to work it out) Oh and I'm a carer for my son, again you wouldn't know this at first glance....

AvaCallanach · 22/03/2021 07:49

Looking after my son is "real" care, thank you. Only it's every single day with no days off or holidays and it will go on for the rest of my life.
Vivana · 22/03/2021 08:00

I also have a disabled daughter thanks very much and also am a paid carer working part time and had to care for residents who had covid and risk my family's health and my health.

windywally · 22/03/2021 08:10
@windywally so it appears on their personal medical notes? Or a separate database?

I ask as my GP are refusing to add any new unpaid carers to their system "at this time" and have put a fbook post out to say as much.

A friend didn't know that she could even register as an unpaid carer until it was too late and is now too scared to book as her GP will think she's lied to get her vaccine when she is in fact eligible
I can only say what happens in a mass vaccination centre , it is documented on a national data base

@Vivana

No it isn't, if you had your first dose on 7th Jan you are due your second one 12 weeks later. Nothing to do with anything else. My mother had her first dose in Jan and both doses were booked at the same time - her second dose is on 12th April.
Underhisi · 22/03/2021 08:17

"I also have a disabled daughter thanks very much and also am a paid carer working part time and had to care for residents who had covid and risk my family's health and my health."

None of which makes you a "real carer" anymore than someone who provides only unpaid care.

AvaCallanach · 22/03/2021 08:24

@Vivana

I also have a disabled daughter thanks very much and also am a paid carer working part time and had to care for residents who had covid and risk my family's health and my health.
Which is why you were in top priority group 1 and vaccinated well ahead of those of us who are unpaid carers in group 6. I thank you for your service and for looking after elderly and vulnerable people for very little financial reward. But we both know that caring for a disabled family member is just as real.
DavidsSchitt · 22/03/2021 08:46

"I can only say what happens in a mass vaccination centre , it is documented on a national data base"

Thanks, I'll tell her. She is an unpaid carer but is scared that it will be put on her personal medical records for her GP to see.

The receptionists were pretty harsh saying they can't add her as a carer now and that too many people are "faking it". She got nowhere with the practice manager either and now won't book online in case they think she's faking.

Which is just daft because she is a carer of her shielding husband.

DavidsSchitt · 22/03/2021 08:49

"I also have a disabled daughter thanks very much and also am a paid carer working part time and had to care for residents who had covid and risk my family's health and my health."

And you were prioritised over other carers for the vaccine. You're not due your second vaccine yet and there is no shortage of them either. Not sure what your problem is but that's some chip on your shoulder!

Vivana · 22/03/2021 08:50

Perhaps ask the government that. But seeing people die of covid was hard to see and having to care in supermarket ppe was not good

DavidsSchitt · 22/03/2021 09:21

@Vivana I can't ask the government anything.

But for you to take it out on carers simply because they're unpaid is terrible.

You aren't due your second vaccine yet.

Vivana · 22/03/2021 09:46

Where have I said anything about unpaid carers. I have a disabled daughter who I care for to and I was a unpaid carer before I worked in care myself. I said paid carers

Vivana · 22/03/2021 09:48

I'm taking it out on those falsely saying they are carers to jump the line nothing to do with unpaid carers at all. So David back down please you have jumped ahead of yourself by saying I was taking it out on unpaid carers. What nonsense

Biscuit
DavidsSchitt · 22/03/2021 09:52

I'm not the only one who noticed your comment about "real carers in group 1".

I'm not ahead of myself, you were with that comment though, plenty of people here are "real" carers but are in group 6.

What a sorry state of affairs when you're here blaming others for taking "your" vaccine, when you were prioritised in group 1.

Vivana · 22/03/2021 10:00

Typical MNer jumping to conclusions. Why would I knock unpaid carers when I have a disabled autistic daughter myself

Vivana · 22/03/2021 10:02

So David basically your saying its OK for people to say there a carer when there not and get ahead in the queue for there vaccine and yes I am due my second vaccine now my gp surgery sent a letter apologising for the wait.
