Can this be true? Tons of people lying to get vaccine.

My mum has just told me that my dodgy cousin (about 30) has just had his vaccine with all of his builder mates by lying and saying they are ‘unpaid carers’ on the nhs website. She said no one bothered to check any of them.
Firstly, how bloody outrageous of them pulling the wool over the vaccine centres eyes and secondly, why isn’t their any check, however minor?
I know we all need to get done eventually but this has really pissed me off.

@Londonmummy66

In many many cases there is no proof that someone is an unpaid carer.

minniemoocher · 21/03/2021 23:15

@DonGray

You can book any vaccine centre not just the nearest, my dd booked one 150 miles from her registered address because she's a student stuck with her dm!

DavidsSchitt · 21/03/2021 23:17

"he has chronic treatment resistant depression"

That doesn't make him CEV though so you're not eligible as an unpaid carer.

All unpaid carers aren't eligible. Just those who care for someone on the shielding list

Nelia5 · 21/03/2021 23:18

@DonGray the Science museum is nowhere near NW London. My appointment was at the Science museum, I live in Kensington SW postcode and it was on top of the list of nearest centers.

PickAChew · 21/03/2021 23:20

Well you have to give your NHS number so. I detect a hint of bovine excrement.

My mum got vaccine on account of being a carer for someone who died in 2019.. so I am not sure that is entirely true.
minniemoocher · 21/03/2021 23:21

@BorisJohnsonsSocks

Navy isn't vaccinating yet unless on covid duties! Dd is waiting. Obviously staff over 50/cv are vaccinated through the nhs

DavidsSchitt · 21/03/2021 23:25

She's not eligible though on account of that. She got it on account of an admin failure.

@Rumdiddly

Arguably most people in the country are Carer's of one type or another. My mum has a heart condition and I do her shopping and bigger deep cleaning and my nana is 92 with very poor health and I help her shower once a week. I think a large number of people in this country are in this position. Does this qualify as being a Carer?
To qualify for carer's allowance, you need to be providing at least 35 hours of care a week so, no, even with the current queues in M&S, doing a bit of shopping for someone doesn't make you their carer.
DavidsSchitt · 21/03/2021 23:26

You don't need carers allowance to be eligible @PickAChew

PickAChew · 21/03/2021 23:28

@Bluntness100

I think this is an urban myth, my husband was given the vaccine as he’s front line Health worker and his documentation was checked three times, and he had to provide photo Id. He said three women were refused as they couldn’t provide the documentation.
I didn't have to provide photo ID. Just my NHS number.
DavidsSchitt · 21/03/2021 23:31

Unpaid carers of someone who is CEV and has had their vaccine offered already can book online. This can include driving someone to appointments and taking them their medications.

SakuraEdenSwan1 · 21/03/2021 23:32

@Pastanred

Everyone i know is doing this

But it works both ways

My local lea ‘bagsied’ all the spare doses last weekend and booked at the teachers in my town in - that was last week and yet my mates who are police etc actually got turned away

Lea are doing this is lots of areas to gwtvtrachers the vaccine dispite other occupations having higher risk of death etc

I’m teacher and many of my colleagues have gotten spares thru lea this way

Not right really

This is shocking, Police need this vaccine way more than teachers.
minniemoocher · 21/03/2021 23:32

The queue today was longhorn here! But apparently in some areas they had spare vaccine so grabbed anyone accompanying - the government distributes based on population but take up rates vary a lot

Yes. I drive mum to appointments, I straighten her hair, I do food shopping and if sibling isn’t around I carry it all in and put it away. She’s shielding and honestly I wish the NHS had clarified this earlier so I could have got the bloody vaccine earlier. I just assumed you needed carers allowance
Beagle2306 · 21/03/2021 23:49

I had my jab as an unpaid carer as DC have health conditions. I wasn't sure if I was eligible so rang 119, explained and was asked a few questions and booked in. They asked me to let my GP know I was a carer so I filled in the form on their website - the GP knows the history and that DC is under consultants at the hospital. I wasn't asked for proof but took all the medical notes in case I was asked. I wasn't even asked if I was a carer so assumed it must of been marked down on my record but maybe not. I now have no idea if I should of received my vaccine but jumping the queue was never my intention. I called to enquire and was honest with the call handler, one of the questions she asked was if the person I cared for had had the vaccine, I said no as it is a child and she said if they were over 18 they would of been called for so it counts. Starting to feel like I've done the wrong thing now!

ArcheryAnnie · 21/03/2021 23:49

The thing about vaccines is, if someone else gets a vaccine, it still is a benefit for me, because they are less likely to catch covid and pass it on to me. Other people having vaccines is good, and not bad. It makes me safer, it doesn't take anything away from me.

I wasn't saying that being a carer for my husband made me eligible. I was making the point that by filling out the covid jab website booking system, and answering reasonably honestly that I am an unpaid carer, (because that is all it asks) then the site allowed me to progress through to booking, and there were plenty of slots available. So I can see plenty of people doing that, and to be honest I don't blame them.
DavidsSchitt · 22/03/2021 00:01

"and answering reasonably honestly that I am an unpaid carer, (because that is all it asks)"

No it isn't. It is very clear that you need to be an unpaid carer of someone CEV at higher risk from COVID19 in particular

Butterfly44 · 22/03/2021 00:07

To be registered as an unpaid carer it needs to be flagged on their NHS record. They would want to know/link to who it is they have caring responsibilities for.

windywally · 22/03/2021 00:15

@DavidsSchitt

"as we have to document at time of vaccination what category they are in ie carer , clinically vulnerable etc"

@windywally

Where is this being documented? In their medical notes?

Yes it is documented and it is I entered into a national data base
DavidsSchitt · 22/03/2021 00:19

@windywally so it appears on their personal medical notes? Or a separate database?

I ask as my GP are refusing to add any new unpaid carers to their system "at this time" and have put a fbook post out to say as much.

A friend didn't know that she could even register as an unpaid carer until it was too late and is now too scared to book as her GP will think she's lied to get her vaccine when she is in fact eligible

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 22/03/2021 00:26

@BuggerBognor

I’ve been told I’m eligible because of DS disabilities, but I’m confused about whether the person you care for needs to be CEV. I don’t think DS falls into this category. Either way the only “proof” I have is the DLA award and that doesn’t prove I’m a carer. Plus, I’m his mum so it’s my job! It’s really confusing.
No the person you're caring for doesn't have to be CEV, they just need to need care. It's the fact they'd need to find another carer if you were unwell with Covid.

Parents definitely do count, officially, if the child needs additional care. Not just the care a typical child needs.

MercyBooth · 22/03/2021 01:20

Im 47 and i care for DH who is 71 and has COPD. No CA though as he is on the mobility element of PIP. Im happy to wait He hasnt had the vaccine. He dosnt want it. Im not fussed either way but i dont want a three act performance of having to prove what i cant so will wait till they get to my age group.

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 22/03/2021 02:05

@chipsandpeas

im in scotland and got the vaccine during the week due to being an unpaid carer i registered on the site on monday and got my appointment a few days later i didnt have to provide proof - how can i prove i am a carer for my mother so yes in scotland the scheme is open to people faking it

This is how I registered. As an unpaid carer for my mum I don't get carers allowance because I work full time & I'm not at the same surgery as my mum so although her doctor is aware of the situation, mine is not & it was my record they checked to match up the information I provided - at no point did I have to give details of the person I care for, so yes anyone can register if they wanted to.
