26.8 million people vaccinated thread started 20th March

So with the release of figures as of Friday 19th March over half the adult population of the UK have had at least 1 vaccination.

The number of jabs given is March was phenomenal and its likely numbers will be lower for the next few weeks but even if its "only" 100-200k a day thats still more lives potentially being saved!

@passengers

He had no jab...apparently people just book to come in and say they are disbelievers
That is outrageous - denying an appointment to someone who actually wants a jab, especially when we’ve been warned of a downturn in supply from next week.

I’d be inclined to report him to the police on the off chance there was something they could charge him with.

(I wouldn’t really, I just feel like I would.)

But have we hit 30M yet ? I can't find the info anywhere.

mateysmum · 24/03/2021 16:53

Still waiting.....

no...no official stats yet but I think today we'll get to close to 28.6 million. there has been a big uptick in 2nd doses which is good but means it might take longer to get to the magic three zero. I think hopefully by sunday but not clear. There are reports of sites running out of 1st dose people (and not allowed to invite 40 somethings though clearly some are) which will affect 1st doses.
Frazzled2207 · 24/03/2021 17:10

got it now 28.63 million first doses on government dashboard

passengers · 24/03/2021 17:37

@PuzzledObserver. I actually think they should be fined.,such a waste of everyone's time.

Personally I'd issue such people (deniers generally) a Totally Withdraw All Treatment order. They would have to wear a notice around their neck with "T.W.A.T." on it so we know to keep at least 2m away.

PuzzledObserver · 24/03/2021 17:56

@passengers there is a specific offence of wasting police time, not sure if there is one of wasting NHS time. Though I think people can be fined for hoax 999 calls.

CaveMum · 24/03/2021 18:24

Amazing stats

@DdraigGoch Grin Totally agree. I'm utterly shocked by this behaviour.

They should definitely issued with a hefty fine. The clinic has their details, not hard to find them.

yellowspanner · 24/03/2021 20:03

I love the TWAT notice. But yes, definitely a fine.

Italy's PM said he wanted to increase the country's rate of inoculations from 170,000 to half a million a month
I just read this on the BBC site. They're aspiring to do in a month what the NHS have been doing in a day. Shows how astonishing the effort has been!

Bordois · 24/03/2021 20:40

At that rate they might be done by the time I'm due to go at Christmas 😒🙄

I had to double check that one, they’re currently doing 170,000 per DAY not per month.
DdraigGoch · 24/03/2021 21:21

I expect that something got lost in translation. More likely, they're saying that it'll take a month to ramp up vaccination rates to 500k/day.

Motorina · 24/03/2021 21:24

The Polish Prime Minister argues to make vaccine export dependent on companies meeting their commitments to the EU. And for the EU to be able to claim the intellectual property, and redeploy it to other manufacturers without the consent of the patent owner.

(Source: www.politico.eu/article/polish-pm-eu-must-use-every-legal-tool-boost-vaccine-production/)

To an extent, Az has done that voluntarily, by supporting worldwide-production of their vaccine. Pfizer has not. Pfizer is profit-making. I can see them being a bit miffed at having their research taken and redeployed to other companies, undermining their profit base, without their consent.

I also question whether it's doable. We know the UK has sent experts to Az plants within the EU in order to trouble shoot. I suspect the very particular expertise needed to get the vaccine production line up and running sits in the brains of a handful of people. It's one thing to lift the patient for a gun or a tank and give it to a factory to churn out; it's another to take the skills and knowledge to get vaccine production off the ground without the consent of those who developed it.

Either way, if I were an entrepreneur, I would be looking sideways at the EU and wondering whether I could trust manufacture within their territory.

I honestly do hope that happens in Italy but also in Germany/France/Spain too and of course the other countries albeit at a lower level. The increase in cases on the continent is quite frightening.
DdraigGoch · 24/03/2021 21:27

Bear in mind that the UK's supply ran into similar problems earlier on. We were supposed to get something like 30 million doses in 2020 but in the event that got revised down to 4 million because problems delayed the rest into the New Year.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 24/03/2021 21:36

CaveMum oh that sounds better if it is per day! I copied and pasted from the BBC and it's changed now to
"Italy's PM said he wanted to increase the country's rate of inoculations per day from 170,000 to half a million".

Most definitely @Motorina. Is what the Polish PM is proposing even legal? Surely you can’t just claim intellectual property that doesn’t belong to you!

@CaveMum fantastic stats, thank you!

@buttery81 (and everyone else) - I'm so sorry, I posted that on the wrong thread. It was intended for the EU withholding vaccines thread, where it actually adds to the discussion.

CaveMum · 25/03/2021 08:09

I had a chat with a dad at nursery pick up last night. He is Spanish and said his family is in the strange situation where his 42yo sister (a healthcare worker) has been vaccinated but his 75 year old mum has not because of the initial pause on using AZ on the over 65s. He said they have no idea when she will be done and he was very disparaging of the EUs efforts.

Majes you all the more grateful that, against the odds, our lot got something right!

CaveMum · 25/03/2021 11:13

Amazing graph from Israel where they now have approx 83% of the adult population having received at least one dose.
