So with the release of figures as of Friday 19th March over half the adult population of the UK have had at least 1 vaccination.

The number of jabs given is March was phenomenal and its likely numbers will be lower for the next few weeks but even if its "only" 100-200k a day thats still more lives potentially being saved!

Has anybody worked out - are we doing the 2nd jabs faster than we did the first - in other words are we ahead of the curve? I know a few of my neighbours have been invited early for 2nd.

Including yesterday’s doses we are on about 14 million second doses. We hit 14m first doses on 11th Feb. This is 10 weeks and 6 days ago.

So currently we are ahead of the 12 week gap. The gap is getting longer though - a few weeks ago it was 10 weeks and 2 days. So at some point we may have to stop first doses completely to keep up.

However, doses started slowing down towards the end of Feb so if we can just hold on for a couple of weeks then we will need less second doses to match the “11 weeks ago” first doses.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 29/04/2021 16:06

@PuzzledObserver

Once everyone’s had a first jab, the last few age cohorts (who won’t be having AZ) could have their second at 3 weeks? That would speed completion significantly.

You see, I’m suspicious on the Pfizer 3 week interval. I think the reason it is 3 weeks is because they wanted to get it out ASAP (a good thing in the midst of the pandemic), but they knew from past experience that there was no point giving the booster before the immune system had had a chance to respond to the first dose, and 3 weeks was about enough time.

In fact, 3 weeks was the minimum time, and is the only time that Pfizer tested. That doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be even better with a longer gap, as we now know the AZ is.

Yes - it is a weird thought that if we stick with the 12 week gap then in a couple of months we will have more doses and more capacity than people to jab!

First doses slowed down at the end of Feb / early March so logically the need for second doses will slow down about 11 weeks after that (which is in a couple of weeks) so we may be able to ramp up our first doses again then.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 29/04/2021 16:09

Today we hit 34 million and 14 million! Good numbers I think.

TruelyWonder · 29/04/2021 16:38

Fantastic numbers today 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

Everyone I now seems to have had their second jab just after 8 weeks. My husband's was AZ. So they obviously could just do that or with Pfizer do it at6 weeks. There is at least one country doing 6 week gaps for both. I can't remember where off the top of my head.

All the data for the UK is looking so good Smile

mateysmum · 29/04/2021 17:42

Thanks MumOfTwo that's answered my question exactly.

TruelyWonder · 29/04/2021 17:57

Thought I would just post the block chart it is looking so very good ❤

Some over 40s are reporting that they can now book

Sadsiblingatsea · 29/04/2021 19:44

Why is novone talking about the side effects?

TruelyWonder · 29/04/2021 19:48

TruelyWonder · 29/04/2021 20:01

I found novone for you. Surprise he is so interested in side effects. Seems like an ok young man to me. Is it to do with his music?

I’m 40 in 2 weeks and I’ve just managed to log in to book a vaccine! Unfortunately the nearest centre it offered me was 26 miles away so I’m opting to wait and will check back daily to see what is available. But hurrah for being eligible!

I mentioned that I had a sore arm and a 24 hour long hangover. Does that count?
PuzzledObserver · 29/04/2021 22:38

I had my second dose yesterday, and have been quite tired and slightly headachey today. Looking forward to a good night’s sleep. Small price to pay for the added protection, both for me and those around me. I don’t see the need to harp on about it.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 29/04/2021 23:58

I’m booked in!

I also have a twisted / sprained ankle from today’s nice healthy walk. It seems everything comes with some risk.

buttery81 · 30/04/2021 11:20

There are now only 1,553 people in hospital with Covid - down hugely from the peak of 40,000 in December last year.

Still can’t get anything closer than 35 miles away here!

Well I’m not because no one I know has had any.
yellowspanner · 30/04/2021 15:56

Just had second jab. And got a sticker. Yay.

Another big drum roll please. Only Scotland and England reported

525,316 new vaccinations registered in England & Scotland yesterday (can't find update numbers for the others)

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 115, 366 1st doses / 361,758 2nd doses
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 9,191 / 39,001

CaveMum · 01/05/2021 16:30

Hurrah for the big numbers, we really are motoring!

Still can’t get an appointment closer than 17 miles away at the moment, most annoying when I have 2 mass vaccination centres within 5 miles of my house! Just have to keep checking back several times a day.

yellowspanner · 01/05/2021 16:44

I am in those figures for yesterday. Amazing numbers.

Eccle80 · 01/05/2021 18:35

I am one of yesterday’s first dose figures too. And I got a sticker! Seemed like most people were second doses though as they were much older than me, more so than the ratio of first to second doses would suggest.

DdraigGoch · 01/05/2021 19:44

England and Scotland both down slightly week-on-week but figures still very good overall.
