26.8 million people vaccinated thread started 20th March

Bordois · 20/03/2021 14:17

So with the release of figures as of Friday 19th March over half the adult population of the UK have had at least 1 vaccination.

The number of jabs given is March was phenomenal and its likely numbers will be lower for the next few weeks but even if its "only" 100-200k a day thats still more lives potentially being saved!

Britain will achieve herd immunity on Monday, according to a study by UCL

Will be interesting to see how some react to that!

Interesting timing - achieving herd immunity the day non-essential retail and outdoor dining/drinking reopens. Sounds like someone’s well thought out plan is coming to fruition... JVT’s?

lurker101 · 08/04/2021 09:19

Also - from noon today 40-44 in NI can book their vaccine online 🎉

Thanks for summarising the press conferences so well. I watched both yesterday but was doing housework so not focussed. I love this thread, I feel like I can avoid the bits of Mumsnet that cause anxiety and just come here.

I’m a late 40s single mum with a late 40s boyfriend and we are both desperate for the vaccine, don’t care if it’s Astra Zeneca, Pfizer, Moderna.

EasterIssland · 08/04/2021 10:08

Me too @stealthninjamum I've muted many threads because they cause me too much anxiety, this ne and the good news one are always good to go back to :)

PuzzledObserver · 08/04/2021 14:15

I mean, the herd immunity on Monday thing is interesting, it would be great if it were true.... but please allow me a small pinch of salt with which to take it. There are just too many variables to be able to predict either the exact percentage required to achieve HI, or that we will reach it on Monday, is my hunch.

However, if it does happen, how will we tell? Will new infection numbers drop rapidly? That's what I would expect, based on my admittedly limited understanding of what HI is and how it works. We wouldn't see that for another week, though, as if we do hit the magic threshhold on Monday, that's when the infections will stop happening, but we won't know about it until they (don't) show up in case numbers.

Motorina · 08/04/2021 14:20

Ohhh good! I was worried about the last few days of low numbers, so that’s really reassuring. Thank you.

EasterIssland · 08/04/2021 14:21

Thats what we like Hugo!

lunar1 · 08/04/2021 14:29

Brilliant numbers, better than I'd dared to hope for this week!

CaveMum · 08/04/2021 14:32

Nice to see Hugo has got over his post-holiday slump and is jabbing away with vigour once more Grin

CaveMum · 08/04/2021 14:38

More great numbers from Hugo on % of age groups vaccinated

Bet nobody starts a thread about that
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 08/04/2021 16:24

Good numbers 🥳

The herd immunity is a educated guess really. As covid is a novel virus and all that. Only time will tell the real percentage needed. We don't really know the number of people with immunity from having covid. However I am pretty confident we are doing wonderful ❤

Mumoftwoinprimary · 08/04/2021 16:26

We’ve hit 31.8 million first doses. Is that Groups 1 - 9?

Also hit 6m second doses.

So glad Hugo is back making it all happen!Grin

WombatChocolate · 08/04/2021 16:40

I’d imagine it’s hard to say exactly when Grouos 1-9 have all been jabbed. That figure includes a god number of under 50s who weren’t in earlier groups, who’ve had it too.

But all over 50s have been eligible to book on England’s. Rio always sure for almost 3 weeks now. You could say that was the point they were all offered.

It will never be that 100% actual take-up occurs in any group.

I’d imagine that on 15 April they will say the target has been met. In terms of actual 1st jabs given the numbers will be enough and in terms of people being invited that will be good enough too. They just don’t want to say they’ve done it ahead of the date as the Q about further rollout to younger groups will keep chasing them again.

Currently some people who didn’t get on and book before 29 March who were eligible are now finding slots are not available using the national booking system, due to low supply. The national booking site says this is likely on April and people can contact GP. Some of them are struggling to give appointments too as appointments are determined by supply which is low - well under 100k doses each day for the last few days.

Good to see the boost in 2nd doses reported today though.

DdraigGoch · 09/04/2021 14:13

Slowdown, what slowdown?

lunar1 · 09/04/2021 14:13

Great numbers again. I love seeing the second jab total, knowing that they are moving through the most vulnerable people. Honestly I feared the bank holiday numbers were going to carry on throughout the month after the warning the government gave about supply.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 09/04/2021 14:14

Not bad. For all the slowdown in supply, these are good steady chugging onwards numbers.

EasterIssland · 09/04/2021 14:17

I thought today were in page 23 and have got 5m more which is not much comparing to other threads.
Then I realised that second doses is increasing 1m every 2-3 Days

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 09/04/2021 15:16

Yes, maybe the next thread should be by total doses.

EasterIssland · 09/04/2021 15:22
twitter.com/HugoGye/status/1373273766806102024
So this is the first Hugo record in this thread,
We had 2,132,551 second doses
Today we'll have 6,540,746

So 4.5m 2nd doses

1st doses we've 31,903,366 so just over 5m...

10m doses since the thread started few weeks ago

Mumoftwoinprimary · 09/04/2021 16:12

In a few days we are going to hit 40 MILLION total doses!
