26.8 million people vaccinated thread started 20th March

So with the release of figures as of Friday 19th March over half the adult population of the UK have had at least 1 vaccination.

The number of jabs given is March was phenomenal and its likely numbers will be lower for the next few weeks but even if its "only" 100-200k a day thats still more lives potentially being saved!

3️⃣ IN 5️⃣ adults have now been vaccinated against COVID.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 07/04/2021 11:23

🥳

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2021 12:16

3/5 sounds much better than 60% which is also very good. It shows how presenting stats in different ways can inffluence how they are recieved.

Press conference at 3pm about the AZ vaccine according to Hugo.

@CaveMum

Press conference at 3pm about the AZ vaccine according to Hugo.
I fear the outcome :( EMA is also doing it at 3
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 07/04/2021 13:55

I fear that AZ has broken the pharmaceutical companies' code by offering their vaccine at a rate affordable by people who badly need it, and will therefore go on getting bad press no matter what is said about 37/11,000,000+ being a very small percentage (and number) and SARS-CoV-2 causing many more clots than that and vastly more deaths, long-term life-altering conditions and neurological problems.

EasterIssland · 07/04/2021 13:57

strangely @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime I think I read Novavax would be cost price as well (at least the British factory )

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 07/04/2021 14:06

Good. So it damn well should be! They all should; medication to stop a pandemic is not a luxury item and should not be priced as such.

EasterIssland · 07/04/2021 14:06

272,020 new vaccinations registered in 🇬🇧 yesterday

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 54,296 1st doses / 162,466 2nd doses
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 16,116 / 15,459
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 9,449 / 6,319
NI 5,366 / 2,549

Low numbers again

CaveMum · 07/04/2021 14:18

Apparently they suspect that the press conference will state that AZ will no longer be offered to under 40/50s until more information is known. Some suspicious folk are saying the drop in vaccination numbers is not about supply but that they’ve quietly stopped using AZ while the MHRA look into things.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 07/04/2021 14:26

I am in my 40s and had AZ this morning so I don’t think they have stopped.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2021 14:58

I'm nervous about the outcomes of this.

Benefits of AZ outweigh potential side effects....

blood clots listed as side effects
Bordois · 07/04/2021 15:08

AZ highly effective and saves lives.

Analysis concludes clot cases should be listed as a side effect.

Plausible explanation is due to immune response

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2021 15:09

So far so good :) sounds like the EMA are only recommending clinical vigilance.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2021 15:10

Side effect occurs across all ages and isn't gender specific.

Bordois · 07/04/2021 15:10

When millions receive vaccines effects not shown in trials can come up.

Pharmaceutical vigilance is working

Thank goodness. Phew :)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2021 15:11

Of course for those affected it is awful, but it is very rare.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 07/04/2021 15:11

I am watching the EMA briefing now

AZ risk outweighs risk of covid in all

Blood clots will be listened as possible side effects but basically saying nothing much to see here

Best result we could have hoped for from EMA. The way the briefings were set up was worrying. I think they just wanted to kill this scaremongering
