26.8 million people vaccinated thread started 20th March

So with the release of figures as of Friday 19th March over half the adult population of the UK have had at least 1 vaccination.

The number of jabs given is March was phenomenal and its likely numbers will be lower for the next few weeks but even if its "only" 100-200k a day thats still more lives potentially being saved!

Immune response similar to that seen with heparin.

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum

I am watching the EMA briefing now

AZ risk outweighs risk of covid in all

Blood clots will be listened as possible side effects but basically saying nothing much to see here

Best result we could have hoped for from EMA. The way the briefings were set up was worrying. I think they just wanted to kill this scaremongering

I doubt it will work 😒

I guess setting up a briefing so everyone starts speculating is a good way to get everyone’s attention!

Should say provokes a similar immune response to that seen with Heparin wrt to clots of this type forming.

On a completely unrelated note, I'm weirdly happy that this panel has had women speaking.

At least the EMA are on the same page as us with this. Unless Van Tam decides to do a U turn 😂

Bordois · 07/04/2021 15:17

I cant deal with these questions 😫

But why should we believe its safe... ffs..

I think if the written press release given out just before briefing said something worrying the plan was to run at same time. As all was well the UK one was delayed until after.

Right JvT is up!

The woman in the pink/purple jacket always looks like Katie Hopkins. When she first appeared a few weeks ago I did a double take 😂

MHRA findings...

20m doses given in UK.
No vaccine without risk.
Trials assess common effects, rare only show in larger use.
Evidence firming up. More work needed to confirm if vaccine causing clots.
Reviewed all data thoroughly
Based on current evidence AZ benefits outweigh risk
Clot risk remains extremely low. 19 from 79 cases have died.

Risk more towards younger people

If certain symptoms show after AZ then medical advice to be sought.

OP posts:
Bordois · 07/04/2021 15:32

Covid itself causes clots and low platelets at a higher rate than vaccine.

Don't leave that statement hanging out on its own around here Shock
OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2021 15:35

ah poo. UK being more cautious and going to not offer AZ to under 30s.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2021 15:36

So offering other vaccines instead to them. I hope it's not too disruptive to the program.

Bordois · 07/04/2021 15:39

😆 I'm glad I'm older...

It looks to be the chance of ending up in ICU vs potential harm from vaccine. Lots of variables but its more that younger people are less at risk from "bad" covid outcomes which reduces the risk/benefit ratio.

as per other threads many people might refuse their second dose.. so would be good for those that would still want it

I always thought they'd end up giving J&J to younger cohorts anyway.

I'm still going for my 2nd AZ jab.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2021 15:42

People refusing their second dose is not good for society.

As this is a good news leaning thread at least they can focus Moderna on this young group as it's arriving here.

EasterIssland · 07/04/2021 15:43

me too, roll on 24th may
OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2021 15:43

I really hope that J&J can be used for students.

Van Tam says effect on program should be zero if we get the vaccines we expect.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2021 15:44

Second jab at the end of the week for me :)
