It's not about breaking promises. We are still on target.

It's the 5 million shortage from India that means they've had to slow it down.

It's a bit disappointing of course but not a case of bad planning.

And we know as soon as they can they will get the jags in the arms of the rest of us. NHS are amazing.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 17/03/2021 22:50

@JackRussellJacket how many peoples second dose have been postponed , I have seen 2 on here In real life I know none

PickAChew · 17/03/2021 22:50

Well I don’t know what evidence do you want. A photo of my DD? She’s in group 6 for 2 reasons and hasn’t vaccinated yet and hasn’t got any messages from GP. They confirmed that she’s in group 6 and said to wait. 2 of her friends (different GP surgery) were vaccinated today so I’m hopeful. A lot of Mums in my FB group still are not vaccinated as the system is quite complicated for unpaid carers.
You can’t imagine how cross I’m when Hancock is reporting such a glorious picture and nearly finishing group 9 whereas I have 16 y.o. from group 6 at home who’s going to school every day.
Yeah, my group 6 ds is getting his this weekend. I actually got mine before him, as I get carer's allowance but dh has to wait for the late 40s rollout.

nonono1 · 17/03/2021 22:50

It's the 5 million shortage from India that means they've had to slow it down.

Ah, so is this the reason for it?

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 17/03/2021 22:51

@nonono1 people are saying doses from india delayed ?

WombatChocolate · 17/03/2021 22:51

Look at the link to Telegraph article up thread from Eccle.....that’s the kind of reporting about the vaccine coming to 40s later this week that people have been reading.

Plus, anyone tracking the national booking site could see that it was adding an extra 5 year age gap every week or more frequently. Given 55+ came up about 5 days ago and that 50+ came up today, it was totally logical to see 45+ being addded in the next week or so, especially in light of the extended vaccine supply from 15 March. Anyone reading about it and following it could see a trend and direction and speed of travel in both the national booking site and the press. Today’s report totally throws that and changes everything.

Unmellowbirds · 17/03/2021 22:51

Gave up halfway down the thread but am surprised so many of my 40-something peers are so thrown by this announcement. I'm nearly 48 and wasn't expecting a jab anytime soon - we were very surprised at the announcement that the over 50s were able to book from today (and even more so when my early 50s DH got a call from GP within the hour to offer him an appointment next week).

Frankly, given where we were this time last year, I'm grateful there are vaccines available and that I'm likely to be offered one this side of summer. I don't see that a short delay when things were already so far ahead of schedule is that big a deal. Hope it won't prolong restrictions but given that there seems to be little impact of schools reopening thus far, and people are still being vaccinated, think that's unlikely.

3asAbird · 17/03/2021 22:52
@WombatChocolate Agree. MH was totally uncomfortable. Huge amount of flannel about successful roll-out and didn’t mention anything else until challenged by the BBC. Tried to make it sound like a standard letter. If that is the case then why have some people’s second dose been postponed. Surely that would be the priority?
Hee a such a crap liar.
He can't hide being shifty and evading questions .
I am really none the wiser who's let us down but feel something happened like you say massive change.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 17/03/2021 22:53

@Unmellowbirds I agree

Dongdingdong · 17/03/2021 22:53

I understand why you’re cross @greenlynx, but they’re still working their way through group 6. So it’s not surprising that there are still people in that group who are yet to have the jab. I hope your DD gets it soon.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 17/03/2021 22:53

Guess we can always just blame eu 😂😂

Dongdingdong · 17/03/2021 22:54

Well said @Unmellowbirds.

Akire · 17/03/2021 22:54

We have been watching main site change every few days down 56-55 then down to 50. We know how many jabs are done each day so each year group takes about 3-4 days. So of course people have been thinking end of week it be open say 47-49y olds. So yes it is sudden to be told we are not going anywhere for 4 weeks.

Ousted · 17/03/2021 22:56

Bit of a wild theory but could they be delaying to see if there is any truth to the ‘blood clot’ issues? Could it be that they have discovered a link of some kind to some sort of side effect? Seems very sudden and the explanation was very vague. Matt Hancock looked very uncomfortable earlier.

HSHorror · 17/03/2021 22:56

Donewithit - no i dont have faith that all who should are in the priority groups having been seriously ill in apr and still dont feel right.
The asthmatics removed (and yet some mild asthmatics getting done - postcode lottery)
Other people who may well have say t2 diabetes undiagnosed (eg 50% of people with pcos have it by 40. I

And no! The lft do not make me feel safer. They do not work!!! And anyway its a horse bolted situation.
All the idiot public who dont isolate, others who will be using lft when they should be doing pcr etc.

We've had 3 cases at school now. 2 of which have been in this lockdown with only 1/3 in.
This pause means at least 9w till any protection. And the vast majority of school parents not being vaxxed is going to make a big difference.

Plus it will start moving silently through the vaxxed

poshme · 17/03/2021 22:57

@Avondklok you say they 'didn't plan properly'
There's a supply issue from India, and it's possible (according to some reports) that there is a batch issue/rechecking of batches is slowing it down.
They were expecting 10m doses from India & got 5.

It's not a planning issue. It's a supply issue.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 17/03/2021 22:57

@HSHorror but they are still on target it was over 50's by mid april

JackRussellJacket · 17/03/2021 22:58

@donewithitalltodayandxmas Unfortunately I know several people (work related) who are due their second vaccines in the next week. Booking hasn’t been opened for them. We are assuming there is an issue because surely this would be scheduled by now. Until today we just thought it was last minute organisation. We are now not so sure.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 17/03/2021 23:00

@HSHorror do you know what my mum who is 64 is only getting her first jab this week and she has a public facing role and is most likely more risk than the average 40 year old

EasterIssland · 17/03/2021 23:00

@Ousted

If that was the case they’d stop it completely. They’re going to continue using it for 2nd doses so if there was a link they’d be putting people at risk. Also this would come from Mhra and still supports the vaccine
JackRussellJacket · 17/03/2021 23:00

@3asAbird It was uncomfortable to watch him gloss over the issue today. Tried to distract with good news when it was clear that something has happened.

Unmellowbirds · 17/03/2021 23:01

@JackRussellJacket My dad got under a week's notice of his second jab. I imagine this is a big logistical challenge so admin may not be as normal.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 17/03/2021 23:02

@JackRussellJacket well they might here now
Not sure how 2nd one works ,I have booked mine ( group 6) on the online booking system and don't have until friday

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 17/03/2021 23:03

@Ousted don't say that due mine on friday and suspect it will be az as thats what others have had

BubbleBanana · 17/03/2021 23:05

My point is, it's absolutely fine for other countries to have issues, it's all their own fault, but not U.K. U.K. issue is they used all the vaccines trying to jab as many people as possible and made promises, not taking the 2nd dose into consideration. And now people are upset, understandably.

People were happily calling the EU fuckwits on MN yesterday. At least the EU did not scrap second doses which are vital in generating the full immune response. Getting the first dose guarantees the second and people get their follow-up appointment on the same day as their first shot. I would be mighty pissed to be walking around with 50% of a vaccine inside me just so that government can puff up their statistics in a global ranking.
