...I don’t want to be doom and gloom, but I think the virus will mutate to evade the vaccine - and potentially become more deadly. I think we will face a third wave.

Well, I'm looking forward to long, warm evenings and a few beers in my garden in a couple of months. Spent last summer pregnant and sick as a dog.

Haven't got room for any more gloom I'm afraid.

Maths and physics degrees, although yes a science, have nothing to do with knowing about a virus or epidemiology. Just because they have a 'science background' if it's not in the right area it's really no use. You wouldn't ask a divorce lawyer to defend you in a fraud case, or a paediatrician to do your heart surgery, or even a maths teacher to teach biology a level. Just because it's a 'science background' doesn't mean it counts for anything when it comes to specialised things like epidemiology.

I worried about a second wave last year also. But this was because it was LIKELY to happen
I don't worry as you do now, as that's unlikely. AS LONG as we take this slowly and accept there will be bumps in the road

@Silverthorny because there are many people who struggle and who will come across this or search for "covid getting worse" etc when they are in a bad place.

Your title and OP could come across as inflammatory for that.

So I think that's why it gets people's backs up.

I heard from a friend's cousin's husband's dog walker,who is also 'in the know'in government,that next mutation will mean we'll wake up one morning only speaking German.

My cat could mutate to have razors on her class like Freddy Krueger and kill us all in the night.
But she's currently sitting here licking her bum.

No point worrying about what you can't control. Life's tough enough.

Looking at the cases surely it would be a fourth wave!

Germany I think are a couple of months behind us (and way behind in vaccinations) not ahead

And Germany are not the country of concern - we need to as a world be getting behind Brazil sorting themselves out.

I doubt it would become that much more deadly (it is still around the 1-2%) the mutation involved there would be immense.

As for vaccine evasion that is already been studied

But as for any of this - we now have to move forward anyway so what is the difference?

You're welcome to have your opinion. And other people are welcome to point out their your opinion is baseless and you're not qualified to have formed it from anything other than hysteria.

I'm allowed to, for example, hold the opinion that all dogs should be vegan. Other people would be well within their rights, and frankly irresponsible not, to point out that I have no knowledge of a canine diet or health and therefore my opinion is bullshit and other people definitely shouldn't listen to it because it'll cause harm.

That's what people are doing here, point out your opinion is pretty much crap and other people shouldn't take it on board because it'll only cause more harm to their mental health.

OP step back, go and make yourself a cup of tea and have a scroll through some of the threads on here from people who are too scared to even leave the house in case they catch covid or are disinfecting their shopping and then tell me if you still think posting inflammatory bullshit like this was a good idea.

There are a lot of much more sciencey people (real virologists) who think that the virus is at the extent of the mutations that can arise without it becoming impossible for it to attach to the cells with it's spike protein. So if it changes too much it won't be able to infect us any more.

@Quartz2208 the plan is to move forwards, but we’ve been advised to do this with caution. It’s unpredictable. I don’t think we are in the clear yet, and I think it could come back harder as we try and fight against it.
