Not surprising when you look at the Spanish Flu model. Need everyone to get those vaccines!
I can across an interview (long) with a guy called Geert Vanden Bossche PhD today, who is a Vaccinology Expert. I'll put the link for YouTube at the end, but it is a long video (1hr 48).

Basically he's saying that we are at the edge of a tsunami of a 3rd wave that has been caused because of lockdown and the mass vaccination programme. That the virus has been put under "pressure" because of that, and so had mutated into variants which are now more infectious etc. He says those who are now partially vaccinated (ie first jabs only with many weeks/months before the next jab) should be put into isolation, as otherwise if they catch Covid again, they will have it a-symptomatically, which enables the virus to mutate again, and pass it onto younger people.

Look: I'm not clever enough to know most of the stuff he's talking about, and I'm not endorsing it, but as someone who's in the next batch of vaccinations ages, I found it really interesting (and a little daunting). It certainly has given me even more stuff to think about.

If you're interested, checked it out - in the comments there are some timings if you want to just look at particular sections.
So how do we keep hospitals and care homes running if we put all staff into isolation?
GlomOfNit · 09/03/2021 21:44

He just can't help himself can he. Probably terrified his time in the limelight is coming to an end

Hmm Really, he's not that sort of person at all. Google him. Google interviews with people who know him very well professionally (they all have only good things to say about his experience, academic credentials, and rigour). He's not in it for the 'limelight'!

MuddyWalks · 09/03/2021 21:59

@Elderberry84

I don't honestly care anymore.

Almost everyone I know is experiencing some form of mental health crisis. No exaggeration. People need people. Not raves, not huge parties, not even a bunch of mates down at the local pub, just a little regular close contact with our closest family / friends. A 5 month ban (which it will be before we are legally allowed to socialise with six indoors... Unless you're in an indoor venue with strangers in which case it's up to a thousand people Hmm) which at the moment is the best case scenario (and those goalposts can be shifted at any time) is not in any way sustainable. It's all very well if you're local and can go for walks with your nearest and dearest, although it's not a perfect substitute... My family live abroad, I haven't seen them for over a year. It has very nearly broken me.

I will be taking my children to see their vaccinated grandparents (my in-laws) at Easter, whatever the rules state.

We cannot keep living like this.

Please don't. I am a TA, unvaccinated, you will be putting people like me more at risk when your children return to the classroom having been out mixing. I am a living, breathing, real-life person, I have 4 school age children of my own. Please consider school staff like me who will be in physical contact with children in an over crowded, poorly ventilated room. It is recognised that schools returning will increase the R rate and that a third wave in inevitable. Please consider school staff when you think about ignoring guidelines and letting your children mix.

He never seems to be relishing the limelight at briefings!

Tell you what @Beaniecats, why don’t you list all your qualifications and I’ll make an informed decision as to who I want to listen to, the eminent Chris Whitty or an anonymous internet random who just repeats the same post over and over again?

MuddyWalks · 09/03/2021 22:01
@Beaniecats this 100%.

While I get there is a lot of respect for Chris Whitty, personally I think he has caused a lot of mental damage and anguish fueled by his one dimensional thinking. It’s not all about covid people have lives they need to get on with, businesses they need to rebuild, families they need to see. Yes there will be more deaths but as harsh as it sounds, tough! We can’t keep living like this and we can’t exist solely to prevent people dying. He has a secure job, a salary and apparently wasn’t interested in the social side of life anyway. Not everyone is like that, people are wasting away mentally and it’s got to stop.

He would never have usually had this much air time and I think he is relishing in it a little too much.
So you think it's better people die so others can socialise and shop?

MuddyWalks · 09/03/2021 22:04

Yes same. I'm done with it and don't care. I've seen family this week, and will continue to do so. Enough is enough now, people need to see others.

Fine, as long as you don't have children that are going to school - they could spread it to teachers/TAs and other children.

GreenSlide · 09/03/2021 22:09

What spiteful comments on this thread, everything CW has predicted has come true and worse so saying he's peddling fear is incorrect and frankly stupid.

FrankieFalcone · 09/03/2021 22:09

What’s with the CW hate! Honestly!

FrankieFalcone · 09/03/2021 22:11

I think some posters need to get a grip!

CW talks sense, please tell me your qualifications and arguments against what he’s said and I’ll listen, until then shush!

rwalker · 09/03/2021 22:18

He's just stating the obvious .

Pomegranatespompom · 09/03/2021 22:18

CW is incredibly well respected and a lovely person.
Horrible to see these nasty comments about him. Very immature.

Pomegranatespompom · 09/03/2021 22:21

Ps @LaurieFairyCake fairly sure he has a wife

TheHouseElf · 09/03/2021 22:24

WaxonWaxoff - I haven't the answers, I'm not a Vaccine Expert, but he is. Did you watch the video - any of it?

It may give you a different perspective about what's happening. This guy isn't a no-mark, he's not an anti-vaxer - he's spent his life working on vaccines! He doesn't slag off the scientists who have developed the many vaccines either - he just has some serious concerns on how things are going, and that we are heading into a very serious 3rd wave.

Maybe he's wrong, I dunno - but surely we can consider and look at different ideas, instead of believing absolutely what the Government is dishing up for us? Watch it - don't watch - I really don't care, but hope some people might be interested in seeing another perspective.

LaurieFairyCake · 09/03/2021 22:25

Nope, single and no children Wink

Hands off, he's mine Grin

Beaniecats · 09/03/2021 22:26

@rwalker

He's just stating the obvious .
He is fixated and his obsession is destroying lives
TrinidadQueen · 09/03/2021 22:28

He is single and a lovely person. (A relatives friend knows him personally.).

FrankieFalcone · 09/03/2021 22:30

Destroying lives Hmm really @Beaniecats!

Can you please link to the news about this?

rwalker · 09/03/2021 22:30

@Beaniecats
HE IS FIXATED AND HIS OBSESSION IS DESTROYING LIVES

So you honesty think it's over and no threat

Pomegranatespompom · 09/03/2021 22:31

In which case make you’re offer @LaurieFairyCake 🤣

awesomekillick · 09/03/2021 22:31

@DenisetheMenace

Beanie at

Well said
I think time will show Whitty and his ilk are not quite the heroes people perceive them to be“

Just remind us all of your contributions to humanity, will you Beaniecat?

Alternatively, just bugger off.

I'm glad you said this. I agree

What third wave? New cases are continuing to decline. We're on the home stretch but it doesn't suit Whitty to say this, of course. He has to stay on message and maintain the hysteria.
BigSandyBalls2015 · 09/03/2021 22:41

You don’t get to be the Chief Medical Officer by being mediocre!! And as for enjoying the limelight .... that really couldn’t be further from the truth. He would like nothing more than to go back to the very private life he was leading pre Covid, this isn’t his thing at all.

He’s also incredibly well respected by everyone who works with him.

GreenSlide · 09/03/2021 22:56

Oh thank god a proper virus expert like @southeastdweller has turned up. For a minute there I was in danger of believing the CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER who obviously tells loads of lies even though he hasn't been caught out in one a year later.

TheHouseElf · 09/03/2021 23:02

@southeastdweller Did you watch the video? Or any of it?

halfhope · 09/03/2021 23:09

LaurieFairyCake while he's not married, I've heard he has a long-term partner.
