Reasons to be cheerful, March edition: According to the Telegraph, aka the Tory intranet, 40s vaccination is a couple of weeks away, and right on target: www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/03/01/over-40s-covid-vaccines-rollout-track-begin-month/ (paywall, but the headline says it all)

Good news for those of us in our prime (cough ahem) Wine Brew

OP posts:

This thread is hilarious and frustrating. “What about me me me”.

Relax it’s only just opened up vaccinations to over sixties. If you read the OP it’s an aim to open up to fourty plus in March. This might be 31st March. It’s only 1st March. Chill

@Sweetnhappy

I think you have a good point. The roll out through the GPs has been a fucking disaster.,

It really hasn't been a fucking disaster. We're working really fucking hard and reading comments like yours sucks the souls out of us.

My brother who was hospitalised several times with asthma, when he was a kid and still has steroid inhalers to control his asthma, was told by his GP that he's not in group six.

Another relative, in her 20s was invited by her GP for the jab FOR NO GOOD REASON.

I can only speak from experience. I'm sure you really are working fucking hard but please accept that it's not working countrywide.

Calibrachoa · 01/03/2021 18:02

The people who are desperate for the vaccine will be people in higher risk groups who haven't had it yet and are worried about catching it before they do and the consequences of that. If that's hilarious to people it probably says more about their lack of empathy than anything else.

nordica · 01/03/2021 18:13

It does feel random when you hear about individual cases where it seems like someone should have had theirs already or it doesn't make sense why someone's been invited so early... no doubt there are mistakes being made.

However, overall the vaccine rollout is going really, really quickly at almost half a million people vaccinated every day. Personally I think that's way faster I ever imagined - I remember at some stage late last year there were some news articles that suggested only a third of the population would get offered a vaccination in 2021 and now look, all adults should get a first jab by summer. Smile

Absolutely.
MadKittenWoman · 01/03/2021 19:02

59 and still waiting. DH, 68, got his slightly ahead of time.

ExcusesAndAccusations · 01/03/2021 19:11

Somebody who has asthma that is currently well controlled by a steroid inhaler is probably at no higher risk than the rest of the population Druid. Possibly less. Your brother is at higher risk than you because he’s male, but he’s not going to be prioritised for that either.

Yes it’s weird if a random twenty-something has been vaccinated out of order but in the grand scheme of things it’s neither here nor there.

WombatChocolate · 01/03/2021 19:18

Mad kitten....you’re 59 and still waiting because you aren’t in the 60+ group that is being offered it at the moment. You’ve not been left behind. And you may well find you can book on the national system by the end of of this week or start of next. Keep looking at the national booking system and inputting your data every few days to see if it will let you book. But you’re not behind at the moment....not long to wait though.

Oblomov21 · 01/03/2021 19:30

It was in the news as I drove home on Friday night, that they were starting tyr 40-50's. Here in Surrey we've already moved into Group 8, which is the 55's.

The criteria for asthma sufferers to be put into group six are very clear. Anyone who has ever, even in childhood, had an emergency admission for their asthma is in group six. Anyone who has had oral steroids three times within a three month period is also in group six.

Please check your facts @ExcusesAndAccusations before posting, as you could seriously mislead someone.

Druidlookingidiot · 01/03/2021 19:31

As I said earlier, my brother was hospitalised several times as a youngster yet his GP refuses to put him into group six.

Where do you go with this?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2021 19:33

I don't think we can call any aspect of this rollout a 'fucking disaster' at this point. So far it has been a huge success story and one that can make us very proud of having the NHS.

Overall it's a massive success but group six aren't fairing so well and they are CLINICALLY VULNERABLE.

On the Downing Street briefing today a member of the public asked why group seven are being vaccinated before group six, so it's not just where I live.

MadKittenWoman · 01/03/2021 19:54

@WombatChocolate

I know- I'm just getting twitchy. Checked on the vaccine calculator and predictions have moved a month ahead to mid-to-end March.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 01/03/2021 20:11

Why would they be vaccinating people in their 40s when they haven’t started the 50s yet?

I think people are misinterpreting what has been said, judging by the number of similar comments I've seen all over Facebook. I think the point is that over 40s will be next AFTER those categories already announced (which includes the over 50s). So over 40s next after over 50s, rather than e.g. frontline key workers.

WombatChocolate · 01/03/2021 20:14

Group 6 is being done concurrently to the age groups.

Group 6 offered via GP surgeries at local hubs, is one stream.

At the same time, age groups 5 then 7 (which is what they are now on) and then 8, are can book via the national booking system or wait until they have their letter.

Group 6 is far bigger than the age categories and so it will still be running whilst group 7 are done. Some will have been done concurrently to group 5, some concurrently to group 7 and possibly some concurrently with group 8.

But all of this is shot time frames. Group 7 are invited now and by the end of the week group 8 will probably be able to book. Group 6 will be finished soon.

Many areas will be onto group 9 and then 10 by the end of the month. It really is very fast.

Group 6 shouldn't feel they are left behind. It's just such a big age group and hard to administer that it takes a while. But most people who haven't heard yet, will hear in the next week or so.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 01/03/2021 20:18

Bring. It. On.

They are currently starting to send letters out to group 7 around my way. I'm in group 10 so anticipating a few weeks. But I could get jabbed before the end of April that would be fine and dandy with me. Smile

BG2015 · 01/03/2021 20:56

I'm 52, DP 55 - both been called for our vaccines as have a lot of our friends and colleagues- some of which are in their 40's but have health issues.

WombatChocolate · 01/03/2021 21:05

Good news BG. Everything I hear of younger people getting theirs I am encouraged that the system is moving along.

Anyone who is older and hasn't been called, this should also encourage you that yours really won't be far off. most areas seem to be jabbing early 60s this week with quite a lot onto older 50s.

Remember you can book online if you're 60 or above and don't need to wait for a letter.

Those in Group 6 feeling a bit frustrated, know it will be offered to everyone in that group very soon - they need to get through you before the elderly can come to the GP hubs for their second doses. And if you qualify by age, you do t gave to wait for your Group 6 call-up. All group 6 will also be in an age category too and there are likely to be more in the older age groups.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 01/03/2021 21:48

Shit, this is all moving a bit quick for my liking! I was perfectly happy thinking I might not get a vaccine this year and now it could be this month? I want it and I'll have it but I'm needle phobic so more than happy to wait.

Username198 · 01/03/2021 21:52

My parents are in their 60s and not had letters yet so sceptical 40s will be this month. Presumably it’ll slow down as the second vaccines need to be happening now too.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 01/03/2021 22:29

I’m group 6 and not been called yet.

I’m 40s too so it’s also good news for me if this group gets called soon!

nordica · 01/03/2021 22:31

Username198 your parents don't have to wait for a letter, they can go on to the website now and book if they are in England. Matt Hancock announced this officially on today's press conference.

justasking111 · 01/03/2021 22:52

Wales we're pretty much out of vaccines doing second doses for over seventies a few weeks time will do group 6 16 to 64 vulnerable people, then group 7 over sixties. So I suspect our lockdown is going to be longer

littletsmama · 01/03/2021 23:02

I’ve just turned 40 and have been called for mine today- getting it tomorrow. Thought they’d made a mistake as no underlying conditions here, but they said they are ahead of plan and are working through the 40+ group now in my area. I’m SE England, semi-rural area.I’m feeling incredibly excited and emotional about it tbh!
