Reasons to be cheerful, March edition: According to the Telegraph, aka the Tory intranet, 40s vaccination is a couple of weeks away, and right on target: www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/03/01/over-40s-covid-vaccines-rollout-track-begin-month/ (paywall, but the headline says it all)

Good news for those of us in our prime (cough ahem) Wine Brew

52 and not yet called. They still have group 7 & 8 to do

Hersetta427 · 01/03/2021 23:11

@Username198

My parents are in their 60s and not had letters yet so sceptical 40s will be this month. Presumably it’ll slow down as the second vaccines need to be happening now too.
Over 60's can simply book on the nhs site with their nhs number. They don't need for any invitation.
Chloemol · 01/03/2021 23:24

I doubt it, I am 60 to 64 and already been told that they would be calling us until next week due to vaccine shortages.

Chloemol · 01/03/2021 23:24

Would not be calling us

MatHancockLovesMyTits · 01/03/2021 23:28

I'm in Wales there's no way the over 40s will get a look in before the summer. My 71yo neighbour is still waiting for his first shot.
Now i here were moreless out if vaccines except for the 2nd shots. So does that mean first shots have moreless come to a standstill?

QueenPaw · 02/03/2021 07:21

@Chloemol you can book online if you're over 60 Smile

Mn753 · 02/03/2021 07:25

Following with interest

Flamingo49 · 02/03/2021 07:27

Anyone else have a feeling that "I'm over 60 and not had my letter" is going to become the new "cancel the cheque" on Mumsnet?

Blessex · 02/03/2021 07:40

It clearly depends which area you are in. All the over 50s on my street are now done so am sure within 2 weeks they will be moving onto the over 40s. But the country will never move uniformly. That would be the most stupid thing to do given how every area is different. Just crack on.

At this point even though its grossly unfair, the fact that it appears to be so difficult to get group 6 done because of the paperwork, just doing as quickly as possible via age seems sensible. It does seem by via can just been hammered through much more easily. And although i think police and teachers theoretically should have been prioritised, in practice from what I've heard locally i do think its far more efficient to do by age and will be quicker for many who are vulnerable this way any.

I do think Wales and Scotland are going to have particular issues because of distance /remoteness and Westminster playing silly buggers. And that London will power through ages much more quickly because of a much lower uptake. Neither of which will help national consistency over ages getting the vaccine but thats very hard and going strictly by age risks slowing the entire program down significantly which in itself is a risk to those more vulnerable.

I think no one can reasonably argue that the vaccine roll out isn't being done quickly enough. There are certainly flaws and issues with access for some of the most vulnerable but if they require home visits we cannot afford to sit around waiting for that before younger groups are done. Both in health and economic terms.

Just bang em out and get as many jabs in arms done per day as is possible as that in itself seems to be helping to bring down transmission and hospitalisations. We need as many people as possible done before 8th March and numbers start to go up again initially before vaccine rollout hits that critical mass.

freeandfierce · 02/03/2021 08:28

I'm mid 50's with asthma and recovering from cancer, no sign yet. My colleagues who are all in their 30's have had theirs as they are all very overweight. We are teachers so next week back to mixing with my various groups.

Stickytreacle · 02/03/2021 09:07

My daughter is cv in her early 30s has just been able to book on the main NHS site, she couldn't yesterday, so keep trying if you're in England, you'll be able to book before your letter arrives.

knittingaddict · 02/03/2021 09:34

57 and not been called.

Expectingsomethingwonderful · 02/03/2021 09:36

Group 6 but not been called yet. Seems odd that they are offering to do those in their 40s that are not vulnerable before Group 6.

It's not odd, it's demographics

The vunerable aren't proportionately spreaed across all GP surgeries, I realise that some surgeries haven't managed as well as others but you can't blame them in any way for their catchment of patients.

If you mean that you know that a specific healthy 40 year old at your surgery with no other reason to have the jab has gone ahead of you that would be wrong but not at a population level

Sidewalksue · 02/03/2021 10:17

My GPS has just started over 65s and hasn’t done all the group 4 yet. I’m not expecting to be done until June.

Blessex · 02/03/2021 10:40

@RedToothBrush is there additional paperwork for group 6. I didn’t know that. Also some will be happening at GP surgeries and some at mass hubs. There will also be within postcode differences between those I would imagine. And sometimes that is because people want to go to their GP and not their hub. Then for sure the next on the list should then go to the hub which may well happen before the GP jabs.

Anyway while we are all chatting away about who has been done rest assured that we are in a glass half full situation in the U.K. They will get to all of us and they are getting to all of us much much more quickly than elsewhere in the world. So let’s thank our lucky stars. Star

Blessex · 02/03/2021 10:41

@Sidewalksue they may send you to a hub and not to the GP so I am sure you will be jabbed before June.

whatswithtodaytoday · 02/03/2021 10:57

I think the delays with Group 6 just show how much more difficult it is to vaccinate by illness/job/caring status, rather than a simple age-based call. There are also more people in Group 6 who will have to be vaccinated at a hospital or somewhere with resus abilities, due to the remote possibility of a serious reaction.

We are doing so well though - I remember in late 2020 being upset that at (just) under 40 I wouldn't be vaccinated until winter 2021, and now it's looking like I'll be done by midsummer!

WombatChocolate · 02/03/2021 11:07

I’m not sure they are actually behind with Group 6.

It is a huge group of 7.3m. It was always intended to run concurrently with the age groups and so they would have moved onto group7 which is age based, before finishing group 6.

The issue is that people do t realise the age group categories run concurrently and thought group 6 would be completed before group 7 begun. But of course, group 6 was being done alongside group 5 (group 6 didn’t complain then) and is now done alongside group 7 and even 8 until it is finished.

Most areas did t start group 6 until after 15 Feb which is actually only 2 weeks ago. Given the size of group, if people think about they’ll realise it’s not taking ages and it is moving along. I think people lose track of the timescales and it’s when they hear of younger people being vaccinated they think they’ve been forgotten or left behind, but they haven’t.

And yes, it does show that age groups for the under 50s is faster and more efficient than occupations etc for the rest of population.

CoffeeRunner · 02/03/2021 11:11

I do hope people in lower groups (so 7, 8 & 9) understand & appreciate that GPs are vaccinating group 6 which is a huge group to get through, and that they will be seen much quicker at a regional centre (the bookable online ones).

If you can’t travel to one of those, that’s fine of course, but your wait will be longer as we have to get through Group 6 first.

Yes!

Note to OVER-60s you can BOOK ONLINE and at least six people have POSTED THE LINK. Just go upthread.

WombatChocolate · 02/03/2021 11:14

We will get to a point before August and even before July when the whole population has been offered one jab. We will get to a point by the end of March or mid April when all the over 50s and the vulnerable have been given a jab. Some of those end points I’ve mentioned are just 4 or 5 weeks away with 32 million vaccinated.

The key thing is this is speed and numbers done. We will look back and say ‘wow’ they did it so fast. We will all be done. Hopefully we won’t look back on this in history and say ‘but X person was done 2 weeks later than y person who was in a higher priority group’.

There are rough priority groups, but here isn’t a queue of 53m people each with a precise place in the queue. The key is to race through the population, not ensure person 42,50067 is done exactly 4250067th and on-one else can be done until they have had their jab.

Again, those aged 60+ don’t have to wait for a letter. You are invited in the national website as you meet the criteria to book. You need to meet the criteria OR have a letter...both are not necessary. It says that.
If you’re under 60 and haven’t been asked and can’t book online, that’s because you’re not eligible on the national system yet. It’s possible some areas have moved onto those groups, but nationally it’s currently group 7 and above.

snowspider · 02/03/2021 11:23

Another Wales location. There is no vaccine delivery since 19 February according to my GP. They would otherwise be about to begin inviting 65-69 age group. But they aren't because of lack of vaccine. That group is to be followed by the very large 16-64 with underlying health conditions. I would be in the group to follow that over 60-64.

So I anticipate waiting sometime.

There is no system here to apply online without being referred by a GP.

Eccle80 · 02/03/2021 11:57

I’ve seen a GP near us say they have to wait until they have finished group 6 to move onto group 7 and it could be some time. I don’t know why they didn’t mention that group 7 could book online if they were happy to go to vaccine centre and preferred to have it done sooner - there is one in the same town so not like it is far to travel!
