Reasons to be cheerful, March edition: According to the Telegraph, aka the Tory intranet, 40s vaccination is a couple of weeks away, and right on target: www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/03/01/over-40s-covid-vaccines-rollout-track-begin-month/ (paywall, but the headline says it all)

Good news for those of us in our prime (cough ahem) Wine Brew

Group 6. Had a text from GP today, with a link to book, which I've done for this weekend.

Doris86 · 01/03/2021 14:30

I’m sure the government know what they are doing, and all previous announcements about roll out of the vaccine have been pretty accurate. I’m not sure why so many people here feel the need to doubt this one.

I don't feel the need to doubt it. I just do

Oh come on,

Mumsnet is full of posters who know so much better than all the covid experts how to do things, I'm surprised you haven't noticed. I don't know why they spend their time criticising on the internet when they could be offering their superior wisdom to the powers that be, seems a little selfish to me Grin

moggiek · 01/03/2021 14:35

OhYouBadBadKitten and FlyingBurrito many thanks for the responses. However, this is not an option in Scotland. Everyone has to wait to be contacted by their local NHS health board.

Charmatt · 01/03/2021 14:40

In our area the GPs are not anything to do with it, apart from ensuring your medical records are up to date. You can't call the GPs to fid out if you have been missed or to arrange an appointment for the vaccine.

I had mine on Saturday as part of Group 6

bellinisurge · 01/03/2021 14:42

Group 8. Heard nothing yet.
DH is under 50 so god knows when he'll get called.
My over 60s sister and BIL have had their first.
Over 70s in-laws had their first.

Calibrachoa · 01/03/2021 14:42

I'm 50. Not best of health but not group 6. Hoping I'm not going to be one of the unfortunate parents (and teachers) who catches it from the kids going back. (I have teenagers in a huge secondary) Lets hope theres not too many of us who catch it and have serious consequences. (Don't want to homeschool as teachers won't be able to provide the same standard of home school work once they are teaching in the classroom. Eldest is in first year of A levels so crucial)

VeganCow · 01/03/2021 14:43

Am sure it just means group 4 in areas where they are getting through other groups fast. I am group 9 and dubious about the date of April 15th, but may be proved wrong.

Jungfraujoch · 01/03/2021 14:43

Can anyone explain the situation for asthma sufferers? I’m assuming I’ve been demoted as I have cough variant asthma (mild, never had an attack), but I am 58. I’m hoping I’ll get it in the next few weeks!

DinosaurDiana · 01/03/2021 14:45

All those who’ve had their first are going to need their second soon, that will slow things down.
My DD has asthma and hasn’t been offered her first yet.

ThatDamnKrampus · 01/03/2021 14:46

My husband is over 50 and hasn't had his appointment and he can't book online yet. I really can't see them doing 40s in a couple of weeks.

nordica · 01/03/2021 14:50

I think it was on the Andrew Marr show this weekend one of the health editors said there's been talk of all adults being offered their first vaccine by the end of June - ahead of schedule. The government has just set the target for July so they're more likely to meet it ahead of schedule than late in case of any supply issues etc.

As the date for opening up everything is 21st June, it would make sense if they're optimistic about the majority having had their first vaccination by then.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/03/2021 14:51

@ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown I'm certain she doesn't have a health condition I don't know about, but they do have a child in the shielded group (young adult, who has been vaccinated already) so perhaps that has made a difference? I was quite surprised when she said at the weekend that her letter was in!

Eccle80 · 01/03/2021 14:54

@Jungfraujoch very few will be eligible under group 6 for asthma, only if you have had a hospital admission or 3 courses of oral steroids in a short timeframe

ToastAndBlueberies · 01/03/2021 14:54

Over 50 and not yet been called

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 01/03/2021 14:56

Nordics, but I’ve just read a bloody article saying we might have to go backwards due to the Brazilian variant.

WhiteWriting · 01/03/2021 15:08

40s (Suffolk) received text on Friday to book online. Being jabbed this Saturday and also booked in for number 2 12 weeks later. Offered choice of times and venues. Secondary school teacher so very relieved!

Infection rates are much lower now than they were in October/November/December, so if you didn't catch covid then, you're unlikely to catch it now, when rates are getting lower by the day.
TheHumanSatsuma · 01/03/2021 15:12

@ethelredonagoodday

Several over 60s members of my family haven't had it as yet, and we are supposed to be in an area that's moving quickly!
60s and over can now book online via NHS website. It was 64 and over but they have now extended it.

It’s really easy to do. You just need NHS number and date of birth

Hersetta427 · 01/03/2021 15:14

I am Group 6 and got a text with a link to book from my GP last Monday and had the vaccine on Friday. My husband is over 50 and doesn't have the option to book his as yet.

RedToothBrush · 01/03/2021 15:15

@user1497207191

I think you have a good point. The roll out through the GPs has been a fucking disaster.

That depends on the GP surgery. Like in normal times, some are better/worse than others and there's no standardisation/consistency as it's all so fragmented.

Our GP surgery started late (first jabs mid January), but since then have really impressed. Lots of information on their website and local facebook pages, and they're now ahead of other areas, currently calling the over 50's. We had ours yesterday (mid 50's), the GP surgery texted us a link to their booking site a couple of weeks ago. Straight in and out, no queues, no waiting around, lots of marshals and our jabs were given by one of their normal GPs who we know. They've joined forces with the other GP surgery in our town and are working together. The rest of my family, living in the next town are still waiting - their GPs aren't participating, so their town has one of these mass vaccination centres in a football stadium and by all accounts it's an administrative nightmare.

A friend has been volunteering at two different vaccine centres.

The first was a mass testing place you book yourself. He said during a zoom call he was getting hundreds though.

The second was a smaller site which was being sent people booked through GPs. He said they had hardly any through and there seemed to be a real problem.

The discussion that followed seemed to suggest that the paperwork for the clinically vulnerable was considerable and a pain in the arse and was taking too long and a couple on the call got the impression that GPs were getting paid if they themselves administered vaccine rather than facilitating booking to a centre.

I don't know the truth of this, but there seems to be an issue and at least a few people seem to be under the impression that who is paid to vaccine may be playing a role.

Hersetta427 · 01/03/2021 15:15

Should have said that I went to vaccination centre for the jab not at my GP's - only the booking link came from my GP.

oakleaffy · 01/03/2021 15:17

Many 60s. Still unvaccinated here.
South West.

I’m not sure why so many people here feel the need to doubt this one.

I don't feel the need to doubt it. I just do

So you’re doubting it for no particular reason?
