Hi,

Was starting to feel a bit more positive - a bit lighter, but it sounds as though people are already behaving like we're out of lockdown, according to latest hotspot data.

I felt a difference earlier today when walking the dogs. I noticed there were bigger groups together, likely not the same household. I haven't seen this in such bulk for months.

Please someone tell me this is just a blip.

lmfao

earthyfire · 26/02/2021 23:27

We need to start getting back on with our lives, no point in complaining about people being in the park when you are there yourself. Hmm

MrsHusky · 26/02/2021 23:30

There's a few of the 'hotspots' where the evidence is that what is keeping the rates high is workplace transmission.. .and its generally areas where work is a high percentage of manufacturing based where people can't work from home, or poorer areas where they dont feel they can take the risk of losing their jobs by taking time off.. so fueling workplace transmission.

Its generally NOT from socializing or breaking lockdown rules.

Exactly. It's generally the WFH lot who like to bang on about how they are staying at home and following the rules with no thought that some people have to go out to work.
InsaneLockdowner · 26/02/2021 23:36

A few weeks back they were saying some of these new variants were upto 70% more contagioys. Obviously it's going to be more contagious in enclosed spaces but surely the risk does not diminish to zero just cos your sat on a bench or stood in a crowd in the park??
So many conflicting opinions.
All I know is what I've seen with my own eyes. On a cold day when I breathe out I see the mist of my breath (droplets are in there) it thins out eventually but hangs around for 15/20 seconds before floating off, thinning as it goes. On a windier day it floats off faster and thins more quickly. On a still day it hangs there longer.
No virus is impossible to catch outdoors. Less likely but very possible still. I don't know why people struggle to grasp this simple fact. Outdoors isn't a special secret virus shield.

No one should be mixing in groups anywhere right now no matter what you believe, want or think. We're supposed to still be complying by the rules. We are so close but for every few people that think fuck it I've suffered enough I'm doing xyz and fuck you to the rules are risking a slower lifting of restrictions for us all.

I've had an utterly lonely and shit lockdown. I've been alone without a bubble due to shitty circumstances. Lost my job like many. I'm so fucking desperate for this to be over and some normality so i don't say the above as a lockdown lover or as someone who wants lockdown to continue, before the nasty accusations start.

@SymphonyofShadows

Jesus there are some dickheads on this thread. I lost a close family member who had mild symptoms and suddenly developed breathing difficulties and died within hours. Another friend who is a medic had mild symptoms and was recovering at home, and noticed his breathing had changed. He took his oxygen levels on an oximeter and realised that something was very wrong, and called 999. It saved his life.

In both cases previously fit and healthy men in their 40’s, but crack on and call me a doom monger, just don’t whine if it comes to your door and you don’t breeze through it.

1500 people die everyday of something. No one gives a shit about them!
GoldenOmber · 26/02/2021 23:40

Yes. But I think people would prefer to believe it is. That makes the whole thing easy to understand and gives someone to blame, and holds out the promise that if only we’d be really really good then the virus would vanish.

Lynora · 26/02/2021 23:40

I would think that most cases are caught in workplaces. We should tell those supermarket workers etc to stay at home shall we?

Alright for them to go out to work, just don't sit on a park bench.

wondarah · 26/02/2021 23:41

better weather will result in this. I know lots of family & family friends who have had the jab & they are all relaxing, my aunt who is shielding went & had an underground haircut 🙄

Insert1x20p · 26/02/2021 23:54

I live in HK where they trace every single case to probable cause by linking cases and tracing movements. To date there has not been a single case of proven outdoor transmission. The vast vast majority of cases are from people who live and/or work in poorly ventilated indoor locations (construction sites as well due to changing and rest facilities). So not saying it's impossible but it's highly unlikely and I believe there have been a few articles in the press with experts quoted as saying chance of catching it outside are minuscule compared to indoors.

Goldieloxx · 26/02/2021 23:56

The government should not have given dates, it just encourages people to relax. The approach has more to do with upcoming elections in May and less to do with public health

RedcurrantPuff · 27/02/2021 00:02

Many people don’t give a shit any more. The government are just going to have to deal with it. These are our lives not theirs.

Happymum12345 · 27/02/2021 00:25

Lots of selfish people just don’t care about others. This be kind to each other & we’re in it together is sadly meaningless to so many. Lockdown is hard for everyone but so many people have excuses to break lockdown.

MrsScarlett007 · 27/02/2021 00:28

@RedcurrantPuff but it’s not the government who will have to deal with the people that ‘don’t give a shit’ is it! Why not just hold on for a couple more months, see how the numbers of positive cases and hospital admissions fare in the next 4/5 weeks, go from there, let’s not go into another lockdown scenario!

Pleasedontputthatthere · 27/02/2021 00:30

The heat map was total pony too. The darkest colour represented 20 more cases in that area from last week. Very misleading.

This place bloody loves the doom. What will you all do when you can’t complain about Covid anymore?

SymphonyofShadows · 27/02/2021 00:42

Parky04 are you too thick to realise that I was pointing out how the perception that you have to be old or CEV to die is very wrong? Crack on love, it’s your lungs

MrsScarlett007 · 27/02/2021 00:45

It’s not just this place though is it.

When JVT mentioned that we all still need to be cautious, I’ll listen to him rather than MN members! If you can pick apart what JVT said in tonight’s press conference and provide conflicting evidence (along with your qualifications and experience) then fair enough.

It’s not like he was saying we need to be cautious for the next year, it’s a couple of months ffs!

Let’s get schools back, let’s see what the data says, let’s get our dc back into education and seeing their peers, let them have some sort of normality and then, let’s see what the data says after a few weeks.

Yeah I am sticking to the rules, I don’t blame people for being fucked off though

This “selfish” thing is so full now. It’s not “selfish” to put your own needs ahead of others after a year of this guff!
RedcurrantPuff · 27/02/2021 00:50

Full - dull

Bloody phone

MrsScarlett007 · 27/02/2021 00:57

@RedcurrantPuff we’re all fucked off, I know, it’s been bloody hard, it’s mentally draining, it’s been one of the most surreal years of our lives, but we’re so close to getting there, we’ve got to be!

There is hope, the numbers are falling every day, this year is going to be so much better than last year and we can look forward to a brighter future for our dc.

We’ve just got to take it slow and steady, one step at a time.

rosiejaune · 27/02/2021 01:13

@siestalady

Last time I checked, cars cant spread covid

But they do cause air pollution, which harms everyone in multiple ways, including increasing the likelihood that coronavirus infection will be more harmful.

freckles20 · 27/02/2021 01:20

I'm done with lockdown. In my immediate family we have a relative with terminal cancer and a young person who is so isolated that their mental health has deteriorated to a level which is extremely worrying.

I live close to Leicester and mixing hasn't been allowed since all this began. That's almost a year.

Until two weeks ago I hadn't broken a single rule which meant my business has been decimated and I've slipped through every crack so have received no financial help whatsoever.

Enough is enough.

Flame me.
