Hi,

Was starting to feel a bit more positive - a bit lighter, but it sounds as though people are already behaving like we're out of lockdown, according to latest hotspot data.

I felt a difference earlier today when walking the dogs. I noticed there were bigger groups together, likely not the same household. I haven't seen this in such bulk for months.

Please someone tell me this is just a blip.

The sun was shining and people have quite simply had enough of this. Don't blame them!

Vegiereggie · 27/02/2021 07:54

So many people sound like petulant children on here. I hate lockdown as much as the next person. I miss my family and friends desperately and have dipped into depression. I have also never been a fan of Boris and crew. But it really worries me that now everyone has heard the road map for exit they feel that all danger is gone. It speaks volumes that so many posters weren’t even aware of Jonathan Van Tam’s comments. He has no axe to grind.

Also this false belief that everyone at risk has been vaccinated. They haven’t. For all those saying “I’ve had enough” don’t you think the vast majority have had enough?

QuidditchQueen · 27/02/2021 07:56

Saw a group pf three young (maybe 20s) women having a lovely picnic on thr sunshine in the park yesterday and was do pleased for them. just hope no busybodies ‘reported’ them.

Benjispruce2 · 27/02/2021 07:59

Yes it’s a shift to focus more on hospitalisations and deaths, not cases, but, if cases increase, then there is a greater risk of mutation and the vaccines not being as effective.So, we do need to be careful.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/02/2021 08:02

I can't understand why the government do this.

Because they are self-serving bumbles who care more for personal popularity than for the health of the nation.

TimeForLunch · 27/02/2021 08:06

I noticed this as soon as the weather turned, which was a couple of days before the dates for reopening were announced. People are making their own judgments and getting out and about in the spring weather. I really don't think it's because arbitrary dates were suggested by the government. Transmission outside is negligible, it's fine.

MichelleScarn · 27/02/2021 08:08

People who have been fined should be at the bottom of the vaccine pile
Agree with pp that its frightening what people have been writing and saying!

MaudesMum · 27/02/2021 08:23

Currently listening to two council leaders on Radio 4 in an area where rates are rising (Tamworth and Warwickshire) and 1/3rd of their cases can be traced to workplaces - mainly in the logistics industry (in Tamworth, not sure about Warwickshire) and supermarkets. Its made worse, they think, by a reluctance to be tested because that way you lose pay). Weirdly enough, no-one is citing hanging out in the park as a reason...

Mialain · 27/02/2021 08:23

If others are responsible for your health......can i have a look at whats in your fridge?

Mialain · 27/02/2021 08:26

Maybe....join those people in the park, get some sun, see your family and friends, it will do wonders for your immune system🙃

This is depressing.

The government are letting this happen. I'm so frustrated watching this.

HugeAckmansWife · 27/02/2021 08:45

Letting what happen? People going to work? It has pretty much always been the case that transmission is most likely in settings like work, public transport etc which can't be avoided in all instances. The 'rule breakers' account for a tiny % and will continue to do so. Personally I think they should allow outdoor mixing with SD in place, with a reasonable number like 8 or 10, possibly with under 12s not counting in that number. People / families can then start to socialise, picnic, get that much needed contact without having to 'hide' indoors.

You can't blame people for not getting tested if it costs them money or roof over their heads.

It's bizzare they are happy to pay people furlough for months but if someone needs to isolate, they get a crappy amount of sick pay. They have been asked this question many times but dodge it.

MsPeachh · 27/02/2021 08:47

According to the “cases by neighbourhood” stats, there hasn’t been a single case for the past 7 days within about 10 miles of me. So the tough restrictions, especially with so many now vaccinated, seem ridiculous.

maddiemookins16mum · 27/02/2021 09:03

I agree, it’s why we need as many people vaccinated as soon as possible to counteract the idiots who can’t STAY AT HOME.

Justa47 · 27/02/2021 09:10

@GiveMeNovocain

Enough of people thinking breaking the rules does not have consequences

Enough of people thinking they are unique enough to break the rules

Enough of people it does not apply to them

I always wonder re the supermarket cases. It’s the one place people can go so how many tell track and trace that than own upto breaking the rules.

If transmission outdoors was not an issue then we wouldn’t have needed measures we have.

@PracticingPerson

This week hasn't been the best week. It feels like last year again to me. I know the vaccines make a huge difference, but we are not out of the woods yet and people are very impatient.
@PracticingPerson

How can it feel like last year...?

Last year we knew very little about the virus, we know more now.

We have vaccines! They are out way out of this.

Do you want us to just stay locked down indefinitely?

likeamillpond · 27/02/2021 09:26

@Dustyboots

*You seen it on mn straightaway, people euphoric at the thought of freedom and all this going away in June. Except it wont. And now it will get worse*

This is just what I was saying @ssd on the day the roadmap was announced.

People on mn were being ridiculous. Head over heels in excitement for Boris and his latest load of lies. Of course this will make it worse.

And people immeduatly rushing to book holidays abroad! What planet have they been on for the last year! Confused
likeamillpond · 27/02/2021 09:36

How's this for a thought.
If the virus can no longer get to old people, because they've all been vaxed up, it may mutate into something thats more efficient at infecting younger people.
To be able to infect young people, who are generally fitter and healthier than elderly people, it would have to become a LOT stronger.
That thought ought to concentrate people's minds a bit, the next time they feel like flouting the rules.

MistakenAgain · 27/02/2021 09:44

The big worry is that the virus will mutate if we let it circulate.

Do Track and Trace even ask people where they have been outdoors, or just indoors?

As PP have said, if there wasn't any risk, then there wouldn't be restrictions.

Covid is spread by talking face to face with someone at less than 2m for longer than 15 mins. Being outside may minimise the risk, but it's doubtful that there's no risk at all if you're too close and talking.

Anna12345678910 · 27/02/2021 09:57

@nordica

I noted how Jonathan Van Tam said there are still about 40 million jabs to give (1st and 2nd doses combined) before the top 9 priority groups are really protected. And yet all you see on threads here is people saying the vulnerable have now been vaccinated it's all fine... His analogy about being 3-1 in the lead in a football match not being the time to let your guard down because the other side can still win was a good one.
He is really good at keeping it simple.

Do you want us to just stay locked down indefinitely? What a tedious remark.

Yes, I want us to stay locked down forever of course I do Hmm

No, I want us to never fucking lockdown again and the best way to ensure that is approach it scientifically.

Johnson is a tool, his personality remains the same as last year, the fact he is gambling again is what feels like last year.

I am aware the context has changed (vaccines, treatment, knowledge) but imo the approach remains the same flawed approach - too much too soon, high stakes. However - we might get away with it this time, I don't have a crystal ball.

TFInearlyspring · 27/02/2021 10:37

Just to clarify, I'm not saying I have a problem with people enjoying the sunshine! I wasn't appalled by what I saw, I just thought it was interesting and slightly alarming, what JVT said about cases plateauing in some areas, even rising slightly.

Yes, transmission outside is very low risk, but I suspect more people are now just generally disobeying the rules and I suppose that's quite clear in the data.

As long as the vaccination programme keeps going well and people ignoring the rules are in the small minority, then I think, I hope we should still be on track.
