Carers Allowance/online booking of vaccine

TheGoodEnoughWife · 22/02/2021 20:50

It now states that people in receipt of CA can book online for a vaccine (on the very first page) however when I try I check the 'not health care worker or care worker' and it doesn't let me go any further for booking. Has anyone managed to book a vaccine this way yet as a carer receiving CA?

@TheAvenger

just spoke to surgery. items out as I don't get carers allowance because I am stupid enough to work whilst caring, my surgery has now removed my carers code and will not put it back on despite having a severely disabled child. carers code only with carers allowance here. no vaccine for me Angry
Book at mass vaccine centre. I care for my dad and I was allowed to take his esa entitlement as proof
Boulshired · 23/02/2021 17:17

The thing is it would be the NHS and social Service that will have to pick this up if you get ill. DS2 new respite (they do not last long) is now £2500 a night. He has an alert on his medical notes for hospital admissions on extra staffing and his extreme vulnerability, a risk assessment would need to be done on the room. But according to this I would not be entitled to the vaccine without CA. CA doesn’t change the need.

I tried that but since it's linked to the GP coding and my carers code has gone, they cannot book me in either. They said it's only possible with being coded as a carer at the surgery as the systems are linked.

I know that but sadly you cannot argue with th stupid.

Nhs Grampian
It also includes other carers whom people rely on for day-to-day support. This will reduce the risk of caring situations breaking down due to carer illness from COVID-19, placing further pressure on NHS and Social Care services.

So more post code lottery

Boulshired · 23/02/2021 17:58

At least Scotland seem to understand

medlarmeddler · 23/02/2021 18:03

Not eligible for any allowance but definitely a carer! I emailed the GP who also has the two relatives I care for registered with them, they let me book through their system straight away. Postcode lottery again ...

TheGoodEnoughWife · 23/02/2021 18:05

I am so sorry this is happening to you @TheAvenger
GP as gatekeepers is awful.

Can we all report this to our local Clinical Commissioning Group? (CCG) it's Incredibly confusing and many carers will miss out

Zampa · 23/02/2021 18:21

@TheAvenger Fully appreciate you not having the stomach for the fight but if you do need support or want to make a complaint, here are some useful contact details.

Support: www.carersuk.org/help-and-advice/get-support/local-support

Complaint: Put ‘For the attention of the complaints manager’ in the subject line and email [email protected]

I'd do it all for you if it could. You've been treated very badly.

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 23/02/2021 18:29

I am furious at this whole thing around who counts as a carer.

The guidance reads quite clearly, the gatekeepers are being arseholes.

Same here, DH and I are both group 6 due to health conditions but also unpaid carer to DM but no sign of an appointment yet. Have messaged gps today to see if they have us down as carers.

Are willing to go to National centre but site won’t let us book.

whataballbag · 23/02/2021 19:13

@TheAvenger the way you've been treated is absolutely vile. Is your son registered at the same surgery as you too?

whataballbag · 23/02/2021 19:15

@TheAvenger are you under Lancashire and south Cumbria?

TheAvenger · 23/02/2021 19:15

yep, DC is there too but doesn't see anyone as all the appointments are in hospital with consultants.

I calmed down. It's not long until the rest gets the vaccine either. we have managed so long so can go on a few more months I guess.

TheAvenger · 23/02/2021 19:17
@TheAvenger are you under Lancashire and south Cumbria?
Nope :-)

whataballbag · 23/02/2021 19:19

@TheAvenger I really think you should pursue this further. As other posters have said it seems to be a postcode lottery and at the whim of GP's receptionists and site Marshall's as to who actually gets a vaccine.

Especially the posts on the Lancs & Cumbria Facebook clearly telling them people not entitled are booking and turning up and not being asked to produce anything

StrangeAddiction · 23/02/2021 19:38

Can anyone help please?

I'm trying to book my brother a vaccination appointment online, he gets carers allowance.

Is there an option to click to say your eligible because of carers allowance or do I click through using social care worker (which he isn't) although he does care for dm as he lives with her?

I managed to book mine online this morning but I can't remember how I got past the page asking if I'm a health care/social care worker etc.

If you're coded correctly (your brother in this case) you don't get the are you a health care/social care worker page at all, you get different pages.

Some people have sorted it via 119.

StrangeAddiction · 23/02/2021 19:49

@ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn - thanks. I'll get him to give 119 a ring.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 23/02/2021 22:02

I am a carer, receive CA, registered carer at GP. GP have posted in their FB that they are working through groups 5 and 6, and prioritising those within these groups who are CEV so will take a few weeks to get to the rest of those two groups.

On the National NHS link it says (as we know hence the thread) that those eligible for CA can book - but also says wait to be contacted by NHS before booking. I've gone through with my NHS number and been offered dates for vaccination on the link - but am I supposed to wait for them or my GP to contact me first? I don't want to jump in ahead of the CEV because I'm clearly not. Or is it ok for me to go ahead and just book myself in now that carers are listed as being able to use the link?

Boulshired · 23/02/2021 22:11

They want you to book and for many its a different location to the other group 6

TheGoodEnoughWife · 23/02/2021 22:14

@BewareTheBeardedDragon definitely get booked in! You aren't jumping ahead of anyone. Groups five and six are being done now.

Hi, my husband is down as my sons carer (son receives dla) but he doesn't claim carers as he works while my son is at school. Would he be in priority 6? He is caring for him full time (needs day and night 1 to 1) while schools are closed.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 23/02/2021 22:28

Yes your dh should be group 6 @scotlandg. Is he coded on his dr records as a carer? Getting that done would be first step.
