Carers Allowance/online booking of vaccine

TheGoodEnoughWife · 22/02/2021 20:50

It now states that people in receipt of CA can book online for a vaccine (on the very first page) however when I try I check the 'not health care worker or care worker' and it doesn't let me go any further for booking. Has anyone managed to book a vaccine this way yet as a carer receiving CA?

I think it is a standard letter they will use for all carers. My child was classed as CEV by the GP because of lack of understanding, lack of cooperation and wouldn't comply with any treatment unless sedated but he is not at risk of getting it as a serious illness.

Frozenintime · 26/02/2021 14:43

I've been offered an appointment 18 miles away in Holmfirth. That would take me a good 2.5 hours with no car.
So rang GP and I am on their waiting list as they are full at the moment !

PickAChew · 26/02/2021 15:00

I'm lucky that we've just had a centre open about 25 minutes walk away.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 26/02/2021 15:10

@Spikeyball yes, I hadn't really thought of it that way. My son is at no more risk medically from Covid-19 - apart from treating him would be a serious problem.

@Frozenintime that is a shame. I think the GPs have been suffering from smaller deliveries of the vaccine but that is going to improve. I hope they get to you soon.

I got my letter this morning - booked in for next week

NotAgainNoMore · 26/02/2021 16:39

Got mine this morning too. Letter stated 'records show that you care for someone who is clinically vulnerable to Covid' but when booking - 'anyone who is in receipt of carers allowance'.

Sadless · 26/02/2021 16:49

Same here letter this morning but had already booked for 7th of March. My husband is in group 6 and hasn't heard any thing from the drs yet.

I received my letter this morning but I'd already booked for next week. I've booked into a big vaccination centre a couple of miles away. There were a couple which are actually closer to me, but they are much smaller (like community centres/pharmacies) and I felt sort of safer going to a big clinical environment.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 26/02/2021 18:45

@meadowfresh I have also booked I to a big hub, about 16miles away. Will be good to run the car to be honest!

Had my jab yesterday, you do have a sit down with someone with a laptop to confirm details and give consent. By my NHS number she knew I was a carer and didn't require proof.

Pleased to have had it!

I just had mine this morning. When I went in, the lady said you look a bit young to be having it so soon what group are you in ( I’m 30 btw) once I told her I was a carer in receipt of ca she asked me for proof of ca, my sons DLA and asked me for photo ID. Just a heads up incase anyone gets the same x

TheGoodEnoughWife · 28/02/2021 13:42

Wow! @Mummyemx completely different experience (maybe I just look old)
Did they ask for your NHS number? That told her all she needed to know.

There was quite a mix of age when I went (massive queue - took over an hour).

Do they know that loads of carers do not get carers allowance?
Boulshired · 28/02/2021 13:55

I just got asked the standard questions, but then I certainly do not look anywhere near 30. Most of my group looked like carers with a good mixture of ages. Then got jabbed by my sons school OT so she recognised me anyway. His school is now 95% vaccinated just the pregnant ones left.

Mummyemx · 28/02/2021 14:18

@TheGoodEnoughWife they asked me for my nhs number once I got to the table to have my vaccination. This was before I was even allowed to go through to the waiting area x

TheGoodEnoughWife · 28/02/2021 15:16

@Mummyemx I see, they just asked for the reference number before letting us in.

@fightingSmiths this is at vaccine hubs where you have booked through the NHS online booking - for that you need to be in receipt of CA.

No you don't. I have several close friends who booked on there after being coded as a carer but not receiving CA. I would have been able to book on there as well (not getting carers) but got an invite to the GP one which is much closer so picked that.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 28/02/2021 16:42

@fightingSmiths that isn't the experience of some unfortunately.

ElGuardiandenoche · 28/02/2021 17:38

The experience of some people on here is shocking. I had an SMS from my surgery to book as I’m group 4 so followed the link in the SMS and booked, it was really simple. Then I was reading on various forums that Carers should get an appointment at the same time as it was pointless them not getting vaccinated as well for the reasons mentioned on here. I rang my surgery to ask if my husband was on my record as my carer and was told that they don’t do that. I explained what I’d read and the fact that if he fell ill then we would have some difficulties as we also have three children. The receptionist went off to check and came back and booked him in at the same time as me.

We turned up on the day and joined the cue, it was very well organised and moved really fast. We both went in together and were done at the same time. They just asked for name and address and she input the details on the computer and gave us the card to say we had had the vaccine etc. I don’t know if me being in a wheelchair made any difference.

ElGuardiandenoche · 28/02/2021 17:41

And I really do know the difference between a cue and a queue Mr Autocorrect...grrr!

TheGoodEnoughWife · 28/02/2021 17:52

@ElGuardiandenoche yes consistently is definitely missing as I suppose it is when there is such a big roll out.

My husband came along with me for mine hoping they might do him as well but it was super busy so no chance!

I'm having a right palaver now. I went to my appointment at the mass hub and they wouldn't do me due to my allergy history, told to ring 119, did that and then had to wait for the 'system' to catch up, rang again earlier and they can't book me into the local hospital hub, only the options that are available online. Tried the local helpline as per the GP letter that I got after I'd booked at the mass hub, but that's going through to a completely different LA department. Am hoping my GP practice can help tomorrow.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 28/02/2021 18:48

Oh no@ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn !
I thought the hubs had some of each even if mostly doing one type of vaccine that day but clearly not!
I hope it gets sorted!

They were doing AZ but still wouldn't vaccinate me there.

I'm old enough to be your mum (and in group 9) so hopefully, I won't get any of this nonsense

And it is nonsense, as so many people are carers but not eligible for CA.
