Carers Allowance/online booking of vaccine

TheGoodEnoughWife · 22/02/2021 20:50

It now states that people in receipt of CA can book online for a vaccine (on the very first page) however when I try I check the 'not health care worker or care worker' and it doesn't let me go any further for booking. Has anyone managed to book a vaccine this way yet as a carer receiving CA?
@ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn brilliant!

Do you get CA or not ? Are you taking evidence with you ?
I do get CA and I'm not taking evidence.

InbetweenUpsideDown · 23/02/2021 13:18

@wlv12 that doesn’t sound very pleasant.

I’m quite worried now . I don’t want to look like I’m trying to queue jump and get turned away when I go Blush

StrangeAddiction · 23/02/2021 13:31

Can anyone help please?

Thanks to this thread I successfully booked my appointments but I'm trying to book for my brother who receives CA for being dm's carer but although on the main page it says carers can apply there's no option when you click through. Any ideas? I'm going to try on the pc rather than my phone where I booked mine. It's so frustrating.

I just want to say that I am properly gobsmacked if the DWP and NHS computers have somehow managed to 'talk' to each other. Just goes to show what can be done and if only they could do that in 'normal' times, it would save so much time.

Zandathepanda · 23/02/2021 13:58

We went along with our vulnerable 16 year old, with her hospital notes and my nhs number. I told them the system won’t let me add myself and they said ‘don’t worry we have had this today’ and vaccinated me at the same time. It was a big hospital hub and like a conveyor belt. They must have vaccinated hundreds that day.

Zandathepanda · 23/02/2021 13:59

I am an unpaid carer we don’t get any disability allowances.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 23/02/2021 14:04

@wlv12 when was this? How awful. Am pleased he dug his heels in but think I might just cry if that happens!

I've just managed to book with my NHS number. I'm group 9 anyhow but yes, there is obviously a record of me as a carer linked with my NHS number.

thenewduchessofhastings · 23/02/2021 14:09

@TheGoodEnoughWife

Thank you for posting this thread;I'm in receipt of carers allowance and I've just booked my vaccination via the NHS website

wlv12 · 23/02/2021 14:11

@TheGoodEnoughWife - it was today in Staffordshire. I really hope it’s teething trouble and won’t keep happening. I emailed the person in charge and have had a reply apologising and promising all staff will receive an email reminding them of the policy surrounding carers.

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 23/02/2021 14:15

Well done wiv that is awful.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 23/02/2021 14:18

@thenewduchessofhastings No probs, I am pleased so many have managed to book in.

@wlv12 that is a nice thing to do, I hope no one else will face what your dh did.

Well, I emailed the lancs healthy team (or whatever it's called) - they've apologised and offered me another appointment and said proof of dads esa is enough. I've got his shielding letter too. Hopefully that's enough! Plus the email from the team saying it's ok and that it will be booked directly through them.

crochetcrazy1978 · 23/02/2021 14:32

I've managed to book mine this morning! Can't wait

TheGoodEnoughWife · 23/02/2021 14:36

Hope that works out @whataballbag sounds like you have every area now covered so should be fine!
(Shouldn't have to though!)

Now paranoid about side effects! Not that I'm dramatic or anything...

Florelei · 23/02/2021 16:30

That’s great news @whataballbag! So pleased for you.

I also hate needles and am worried that I might faint when I get my jab.

Which one did you have?

Astrazeneca
Florelei · 23/02/2021 16:46

@whataballbag -my DM had that one, as she can’t have the Pfizer. She is terrible for getting every side effect going and only had tiredness and a headache for a few days.

TheAvenger · 23/02/2021 16:57

just spoke to surgery. items out as I don't get carers allowance because I am stupid enough to work whilst caring, my surgery has now removed my carers code and will not put it back on despite having a severely disabled child. carers code only with carers allowance here. no vaccine for me Angry

TheGoodEnoughWife · 23/02/2021 17:00

@TheAvenger have you emailed the practice manager? Who told you that? Fuming on your behalf!

OP posts:
TheAvenger · 23/02/2021 17:06

Reception told me and them I had an argument with the practice manager.

Tbh, I will let that go. I have multiple health issues, a pain condition, waiting for surgery, have burn out and depression due to the stress of working and caring. I barely cope and I learned to pick my battles. I will get the vaccine later this year anyways. It would just have given me a bit more freedom and peace of mind but that is all. will just wait . Seems I have just been removed from the list to deny me the vaccine and that upsets me so much. DC is still severely disabled needing round the clock care and will need that lifelong.

Florelei · 23/02/2021 17:07

@TheAvenger - that is outrageous. The SOP makes it clear that you don’t have to be in receipt of CA.

Honestly, I’ve heard some horror stories on here about surgeries acting badly.
