Carers Allowance/online booking of vaccine

TheGoodEnoughWife · 22/02/2021 20:50

It now states that people in receipt of CA can book online for a vaccine (on the very first page) however when I try I check the 'not health care worker or care worker' and it doesn't let me go any further for booking. Has anyone managed to book a vaccine this way yet as a carer receiving CA?

Thought I would have to wait until GP called, do you think it’s possible to book through NHS and use his DLA as proof?

I did that and was vaccinated, no questions asked. I had the DLA proof with me but no one asked anything at all. The quote is from a Lancashire site, not the national site (if there is a difference?) so might depend on where you are as to how they are handling things? I took the view that I fit the criteria based on that quote and could prove DLA so I made the booking. I have actually screen shot the whole thing in case anyone ever challenges me or changes are made! I couldn't beleive it when I saw it - thought I would have some time to wait yet.

For those worried about proving they receive the benefits, it is quite clear on my bank statement that I am receiving DLA. That might be acceptable?

I’m very confused now Confused

Do you have to be in receipt or carers allowance or not?

No, you have to be eligible, but I think the initial bookings are for those claiming Carers allowance, as it will have been easier to transfer the info from dwp. Gps will be responsible for booking eligibilty for those not claiming but eligible due to caring responibilties, that's how I've interpreted it. If that makes sense 😕😵
verybusyknitter · 23/02/2021 10:56

@InbetweenUpsideDown that's interesting. I phoned 119 this morning and didn't get anywhere.

TheAvenger · 23/02/2021 10:56

Do you have to be in receipt or carers allowance or not?

my plan was to rock up with DC's DLa paperwork (High rate care). I work (and earn above threshold) whilst DC is in school so I don't see why I should be penalised for working when having a disabled child.

InbetweenUpsideDown · 23/02/2021 10:59

@TheAvenger that is my plan too. I told the 119 agent that I do not receive carers allowance and he still booked it . I was asked for my NHS number etc and I’m coded as a carer with my GP.

I will take along DD’s DLA letter but it is addressed to my husband . Surely this isn’t proof or CA entitlement anyway so I hope that won’t be a problem?

Custardslice3 · 23/02/2021 11:00

Thanks for this thread - it's been a bit of a who-harr (spelling?) to get my gp to code me as a carer, but have just booked via the NHS website for Monday morning! I'll take my CA letter just in case, but there was nothing on the booking site to suggest that I will need it.

EnoughnowIthink · 23/02/2021 11:00

In Lancashire, as I read it, no.

TheAvenger · 23/02/2021 11:01

Oh did you ring 119? website won't let me book as it claims I missed my first appointment. can we ring 119 to book? didn't know.

InbetweenUpsideDown · 23/02/2021 11:01

I also have an underlying entitlement under group 6 for my own condition. I’m hoping they will apply common sense and vaccinate me based on group 6 status anyway .

InbetweenUpsideDown · 23/02/2021 11:01

@TheAvenger yes I called 119 to book my vaccine .

Boulshired · 23/02/2021 11:05

I do not think it was intended to penalised but a way of spreading the large group out. The problem is the GPs do not seem to have the capacity to allow both groups to be done fairly. I do not live locally to a hub so GPs here are still on group 5 who couldn’t or didn’t want to drive to the next town.

TheAvenger · 23/02/2021 11:09

My GP is going group 6 and all my friends on carers allowance had theirs but GP is being difficult. they want to see proof in form of a carers allowance letter which I don't have.

Was hoping the booking website would be the way to get around it. But it looks like I have to wait now until all priority groups have been done - simply because I work yes, I feel shafted.

Boulshired · 23/02/2021 11:21

I am giving the benefit of doubt that GPs are so overwhelmed that they seem to be forgetting that they have a duty of care to their patients. Carers are people and patients as well, especially if the person they care for is a member of their surgery. If your GP cannot understand you are a carer how can the understand the pressure of caring. Talking about mental health and your own GP will not even recognise the hardest role in your life.

Yes! Does make you feel very shafted doesn't it
Spikeyball · 23/02/2021 11:33

I hope they will do this properly. With the other groups so far they have asked people to come forward if they are eligible and have not been contacted and I hope they will do the same for carers. Otherwise it is just another kick in the teeth for carers.

Boulshired · 23/02/2021 11:40

I couldn’t find CA and initially was refused carers code, as it was early I just left it and ordered a copy. They did phone me back as social services and his paediatrician have both contacted GPs with those who are extremely vulnerable. When the GP phoned I told him I felt judged, you had my child’s record and for that I will be changing GPs. It’s hard enough being judged by society but your own GP.

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 23/02/2021 12:30

Thank fuck. Have booked for Saturday.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 23/02/2021 12:30

It's weird, I really didn't think I was that bothered, and have been in hermit mode for a year, but I'm really quite excited to be having it.

Boulshired · 23/02/2021 12:40

I’m excited about having a reason to go out. I do not show my arms to anyone as this is where my son grabs me. Not looking forward to that.

InbetweenUpsideDown · 23/02/2021 12:40

@ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn brilliant!

Do you get CA or not ? Are you taking evidence with you ?

Thoughtcontagion · 23/02/2021 12:49

@InbetweenUpsideDown no they had my form at the hub asked my name and DOB and that was that. I live at same address as person I care for don’t know if that makes a difference

Thoughtcontagion · 23/02/2021 12:51

@TheAvenger how about a screen shot of the carers allowance going into your bank account? Any emails that toy have if you applied online? I registered at my GP said i am a carer for this person, they didn’t ask me for anything at all. Had all the evidence ready as much as I could, I had screen shot of payments going in, shielding letter, proof of address and email from when I started claim (don’t have a letter god knows where I’ve put it)

wlv12 · 23/02/2021 12:53

Booked my husband via 119 - he receives carers allowance for our son and when he got there they argued and said it should only be if you’re a carer to someone CEV so he’d have to go away.
Thankfully he dug his heels in and asked to speak to someone in charge and they let him have it but said if he’s had it when he’s not supposed to it’ll ‘come back on him’ Hmm
He said they were really rude and made comments about people wanting it without reason.
