Indoor mixing by the 17th of May? Did I hear that right?

Just that really.

Just watching BJs statement and I was honestly shocked to hear this. I really didn't think this would be mentioned at all. I thought it would be the absolute bottom of the list!

Assuming things continue to go well, I'm personally thrilled if this does happen. I'm desperate to see my family! Both parents have been ill and they don't live close, so an outdoor meet would be impractical.

Anyway, just wanted to check I heard that correctly...

Yes, he did say that. Keeping fingers crossed that everything goes well enough by then that we can!

GiveMeCamembert · 22/02/2021 15:57

That's what the BBC says! Praying it doesn't get delayed. My parents live 300 miles away, I'm pregnant and haven't seen them for a year. I'm desperate to be able to spend time with them before the baby comes.

Beebityboo · 22/02/2021 15:57

YES!!! I get to see my mum! I could honestly burst in to tears. It's a week after my daughters thirteenth birthday so I'm going to surprise her with a visit from her nanny and celebrate properly then.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 22/02/2021 15:58

Fuck that, it’s ages away.

I will not wait to see my family until then, they live a five hour round trip away. It’s been so long- that’s three months away.

Delatron · 22/02/2021 15:59

It’s three months away!

Delatron · 22/02/2021 16:00

As in ages and not acceptable for most who haven’t seen family for a very long time.

Honeydukesmum · 22/02/2021 16:00

My third child due that week. I will cry with joy if can do this ( I know can bubble but this gives some hope to see parents etc)

Beebityboo · 22/02/2021 16:00

It is a long time, but I'm just so relieved to have a date to make it feel less endless. It's so important to have things to look forward to.

Delatron · 22/02/2021 16:00

They’re planning on opening nightclubs in June..

Hmmph · 22/02/2021 16:01

Almost right, he said NOT BEFORE 17th May. So it might be after that.

But that’s the date provided everything is still going in the right direction.

Downtown36 · 22/02/2021 16:01

Absolutely too far away taking into account how quickly numbers are falling. WTF.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 22/02/2021 16:02

Yeah, no.

I’ll travel and see them indoors before that, I’ll stay in a hotel if needs be as it’s not a day trip. But no, I will not be holding out that long, it’s been a year.

Howshouldibehave · 22/02/2021 16:03

So indoor mixing by May will be fine, even for people who haven’t been vaccinated?

AllMyPrettyOnes · 22/02/2021 16:05

Agreed
SmidgenofaPigeon · 22/02/2021 16:07

17th May! Talk about throwing out some shitty crumbs!!

dreamingbohemian · 22/02/2021 16:09

Yeah, no.

I'm sure loads of people will do the same, then cases will skyrocket and they'll have to delay ending lockdown again

I understand it's hard but if everyone does whatever they want then we'll be fucked all over again

dreamingbohemian · 22/02/2021 16:09

Well in better news, you can see another household in your own garden from the 29th March, surely that's good news if you're lucky enough to have a garden

SeldomFollowedIt · 22/02/2021 16:10

What choice did they have in the real world? A very large proportion of people will meet family indoors after their vaccine. To think otherwise is blindly naive. They know they’re on borrowed time.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 22/02/2021 16:11

No garden. Sodding London flat. It’s actually the first time I’ve felt like this and I am RAGING.

the80sweregreat · 22/02/2021 16:12

I said it on another thread , but once schools go back in two weeks ( fully) people will not wait until May or whenever to see family and friends.
It'll become a free for all.
It is positive news today though. I just hope people will hang on and stick to the rules.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 22/02/2021 16:14

They're going further and faster than I thought.

Let's hope the plan holds.

The 5 tests have become 4 tests - which are pretty obviously important

  1. vaccine programme stays on course
  2. numbers in hospital OK (no risk of overwhelming)
  3. general transmission rates low enough (low risk of sudden surge)
  4. no nasty surprises with new variants
Brokenrecord3006 · 22/02/2021 16:21

Most people I know are starting to mix indoors now, having assumed that restrictions would be lifted in a few weeks. I highly doubt a lot of people are going to wait much longer.

TwirpingBird · 22/02/2021 16:23

My parents live abroad. I havent been home in 2 years. I am looking at August if I am lucky. My baby will be 9 months by then. Sorry, but take May if its offered. It's not as good as next week, but it's better than August.
Donoteatthekittens · 22/02/2021 16:25

I’ll be seeing my parents indoors thanks. Of course, I’ll have a newborn baby so it will be “legally” allowed.

Or you could just say 'f* it' and go anyway and screw the rules. I probably would if i could tbh.
