Indoor mixing by the 17th of May? Did I hear that right?

Just that really.

Just watching BJs statement and I was honestly shocked to hear this. I really didn't think this would be mentioned at all. I thought it would be the absolute bottom of the list!

Assuming things continue to go well, I'm personally thrilled if this does happen. I'm desperate to see my family! Both parents have been ill and they don't live close, so an outdoor meet would be impractical.

Anyway, just wanted to check I heard that correctly...

I'm crossing my fingers. It's still fucking shit but better than expected.

NovemberR · 22/02/2021 16:31

If he's sending all schools back for all pupils, I'll do what I like now.

Fuck waiting another 2-3 months to see family 'indoors'. If it's safe for millions of children and school staff to be mixing then we won't be following any other stupid rules.

cabbageking · 22/02/2021 16:31

All depends on data so if things downhill all the dates go with it.

This is why this ' road map ' might hit a road block. I can see the logic though. Many won't stick to the rules.
Delatron · 22/02/2021 16:35

@TwirpingBird yes I’m sorry it is so much harder for those with family abroad. They are talking about international travel being a possibility for May so fingers crossed it won’t be too much longer.
If all restrictions are lifted by June then surely travel will be back on.

itsgettingwierd · 22/02/2021 16:35

It did say that and by 21st June full opening of most things including nightclubs.

I was very surprised but it's exciting to think what we can do in 4 months time

anniegun · 22/02/2021 16:37

@SmidgenofaPigeon

No garden. Sodding London flat. It’s actually the first time I’ve felt like this and I am RAGING.
You can see them outside though , its just confirming that a garden counts as outside

Just see them inside?
SmidgenofaPigeon · 22/02/2021 16:40

@anniegun yes we can meet friends for coffee in the park, which is nice and what everyone has been doing for weeks anyway. I can’t see family because they’d have to travel several counties over and vice versa, I don’t think that’s been ‘allowed’ frustratingly.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 22/02/2021 16:41

Not everyone can nip round their mums/aunts/sisters/best mate’s for a cuppa in the garden locally, you’re one of the lucky ones if you can!

This!
Choice4567 · 22/02/2021 16:46

I’d love go visit my parents in their garden. But it’s a four hour round trip with children. And then can’t use a toilet! Not very practical

mouldygrapes · 22/02/2021 16:47

@Brokenrecord3006

Most people I know are starting to mix indoors now, having assumed that restrictions would be lifted in a few weeks. I highly doubt a lot of people are going to wait much longer.
Really? Are they really doing this because they feel it would be allowed soon so why not bring it forward? Does safety come into their decision making process at all? Not flaming, just genuinely interested.

I don’t know anyone who is meeting indoors at this stage. Outdoors yes, but not indoors

TwirpingBird · 22/02/2021 16:49

Same. Other than bubbles, I dont know anyone seeing other people indoors, even if they are vaccinated or low risk.

Well then thanks in advance for fucking it up for everyone

If cases explode by early April because everyone decides to fuck off the rules then they will NOT reopen retail, pubs, salons, libraries, etc. That will only happen on 12 April IF the data support it.

TwirpingBird · 22/02/2021 16:55

Cases are no longer a consideration for the government when implementing the roadmap. Only hospitalisations and deaths matter now. The 'follow the rules to keep cases down' way of thinking is finished now.

korawick12345 · 22/02/2021 16:55

dreamingbohemian - maybe the people who are fucking it up are all the ones who have been pushing and pushing for schools to go back with no mitigation in place. There seem to be plenty of parents out there who not only have a 'childcare bubble' but are also in a support bubble and despite all this still can't cope and have been screaming for the schools to go back. Maybe direct your ire at them.

Xenia · 22/02/2021 16:56

The measures since March 2020 have been a gross infringement of our human rights and unacceptable. I am not prepared to pay a penny of extra to pay for all this now they have found the magic money tree.

Allowing 4 guests at my daughter's wedding net month - okay better than the 3 month total wedding ban but it is still very very stingy in terms of numbers - even if you are distanced you can only have 4 guests. So yes she will go ahead but I was hoping for 13 distanced guests.

Brokenrecord3006 · 22/02/2021 16:59

@mouldygrapes I've started realising recently that most people I know have started mixing indoors now or are planning to soon. We're in an area which has never had many cases, no deaths, and 0 cases for a month now. I don't even know anyone who has had covid and so I think people around here aren't interested in the rules anymore.

ChocOrange1 · 22/02/2021 17:01

@Howshouldibehave

So indoor mixing by May will be fine, even for people who haven’t been vaccinated?
Depends what you mean by fine.

Allowed, yes (assuming everything goes well)

Zero chance of covid, no

ajandjjmum · 22/02/2021 17:01

Completely opposite views on this thread - there's no way the Govt. will ever be able to please everyone. Only time will tell if they're getting it right.

Howshouldibehave · 22/02/2021 17:02

Depends what you mean by fine

I suppose what I was getting at was, is the suggestion that everyone can mix inside/go to the pub/go to a big event etc, or would it only be vaccinated people allowed?

Cases lead to hospitalisations and deaths. Of course it's still a consideration.

As more people become vaccinated, then all of those will drop. Until then, we still need to be cautious, however tough that is. It isn't rocket science, and people that just say "F**k it I'll do what I want" are not going help.
Hopefully, and based on people I know, they are in the minority.

Wheresthebeach · 22/02/2021 17:07

@Delatron

It’s three months away!
I don't understand all the celebrating. That's ages away.
Jungfraujoch · 22/02/2021 17:09

The selfishness and ignorance of some people on here is quite staggering.

I too am desperate to mix again with loved ones, friends etc, go to the pub. But we just have to hold on a little longer, get more people vaccinated.

Posters on here saying they will do what they like are not seeing the bigger picture! If we all started with the ‘fuck it’ attitude we’ll be back in lockdown again.
