Indoor mixing by the 17th of May? Did I hear that right?

Just that really.

Just watching BJs statement and I was honestly shocked to hear this. I really didn't think this would be mentioned at all. I thought it would be the absolute bottom of the list!

Assuming things continue to go well, I'm personally thrilled if this does happen. I'm desperate to see my family! Both parents have been ill and they don't live close, so an outdoor meet would be impractical.

Anyway, just wanted to check I heard that correctly...

I hope so. I've been shielding, so haven't seen my mum since last August, and my brothers and their kids since January 2020.

Jaxhog · 23/02/2021 17:56

@Dontknowanymore2

Exactly!!! Miles a way. I cannot for the life of me understand why two household can met together on the same day pubs, restaurants etc open. There is no comparison. I am desperate to spend time with my granddaughter. Our house is just me and my husband he doesn't go anywhere. Seems rediculous to have to wait so long, and he's treating it the same as pubs etc!!!!
The reason is that too many people will cheat.
Jaxhog · 23/02/2021 17:58

It’s important to question and not blindly accept everything.

I hope you don't take this attitude towards other 'inconvenient' laws!

Tiggy321 · 23/02/2021 18:46

It feels ages away still. I don’t live in UK and have only seen my elderly mother for 4 days since July 2020. Desperate to get back to see her, but depends on whether I can leave the country I live in (we have travel ban ...)

niugboo · 23/02/2021 18:56

@SmidgenofaPigeon brilliant attitude. We will be waiting a LOT longer if everyone takes that attitude. Oh and it’s three months away.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 23/02/2021 19:04

@niugboo it is indeed three months. Where did I say it wasn’t Confused

ALongHardWinter · 23/02/2021 19:45

Just for a moment,I thought the OP was going to say it was very unwise to allow this so soon! I too expected it to be at the bottom of the list. But no,it definitely says indoor mixing with different households will be allowed from the 17th May. Such a long way off still. Sad

Dontknowanymore2 · 23/02/2021 19:49

Making it this date won't stop anyone "cheating".

NoKingDingaLingTitsInAbsentia · 23/02/2021 20:08

Does seem bonkers that I could go and spend a couple of hours in the gym with lots of random people several times a week (nay, every day) for over a month before I'd be allowed to go and spend an hour or two at a friends house (inside) for a coffee or go and stay with my parents for a night.

I can see the 'great' British public fucking this up....

Yourcatisnotsorry · 23/02/2021 21:12

I think most people will be visiting indoors as soon as ‘garden visits’ are allowed, if not before then tbh.

Annabell80 · 23/02/2021 21:23

If everyone starts doing what they want it'll be longer until lockdown ends.
I'm lucky that I have my parents in my support bubble as I have a baby under one. Yet despite this I've hardly seen them as am aware of the risks. They will be coming this week as I'm unable to pick up or bend over to care for my baby.
I know May seems ages away but considering how long we've had to wait 3 months isn't that long

Harmonypuss · 24/02/2021 03:26

Apart from (a fluke) half an hour a couple of weeks ago (and I didn't even get to touch him then), the last time I saw my partner was June 2019 and people are complaining on here about not seeing people for 3 months - get a grip!

SmidgenofaPigeon · 24/02/2021 07:27

@Harmonypuss no one is complaining about not seeing people for three months- they are saying it’s three months ON TOP of al the other months not seeing them, can’t you read?

If you haven’t seen your partner since June 2019 and we weren’t in a pandemic until March 2020 then that’s your lookout.

megletsecond · 24/02/2021 07:32

It seems a bit soon. Will vulnerable people have had their second jabs?

Racoonworld · 24/02/2021 07:36

@megletsecond all vulnerable people will have had at least one jab. One dose hugely protects against deaths and hospitalisation, the second dose only bumps it up a bit and provides the longer term protection. One dose (plus 3 weeks) gives plenty of protection to open up indoor mixing in May.

LadyDanburysCane · 24/02/2021 10:42

I haven’t mixed with friends and family (other than the two I live with) at all but I do mix with dozens of children and other school staff with no masks! I do this willingly BUT school staff should be getting vaccinated! I and nearly all my colleagues are over 50 but only the two who are classed as vulnerable have had the vaccination and they aren’t allowed to come to work anyway!

I would so love to see my daughter.......

Harmonypuss · 24/02/2021 11:40

@smidgeonofapigeon .... my predictive text somehow dropped the word 'another' from my sentence but even if some haven't seen their loved ones since last March they've not seen them for 12 months now, so another 3 still only takes them to 15 months. I know it's not a competition but another 3 months for me takes it to 2 whole years - no fault of mine but my health and partner's work were what kept us apart and we were actually scheduled to be back together for my birthday last year(23 March) but the whole county knows what happened to prevent that!

Harmonypuss · 24/02/2021 11:41

Whole country not county

Coffeeandcocopops · 24/02/2021 11:45

Household transmission has always been high. By then more people will have been vaccinated. It’s not that far away.

JonSnowIsALoser · 24/02/2021 19:30

No, it's not right. Not BY 17th May, but NOT BEFORE 17th May (provided there's not another wave or vaccine-resistant variety). A world of difference.
