This is the first time I have actually believed it

Is the work from home advice just going to be indefinite? My company hasn't given any long term plan on wfh yet.. But I know our office has outgrown the amount of people in our company so there is no feasible way to socially distance..

Ch3rish · 22/02/2021 16:28

@Donoteatthekittens

And back into lockdown for autumn / winter. 👍🏻
@Donoteatthekittens can you explain that a bit, are you assuming that the current vaccines will stop working? That no new ones will be approved?

I'm assuming you aren't simply a brainless idiot and that you do have a solid reason for saying that

fingerscrossedbojo · 22/02/2021 16:28

@8bitgame

I hope we are not in Lockdown 4 in the autumn but I'm not optimistic.
Bojo did say this was the last lockdown so fingers crossed
ineedaholidayandwine · 22/02/2021 16:29

So so happy my 4rd old can get back to school, i could do with the hairdressers soon but oh well :-D my hair is bleached so he has his work cut out for him.
Can't wait for a BBQ with friends!

MarshaBradyo · 22/02/2021 16:29

It’s a good plan

I believe it is going to be reviewed before June 21 and could end then. That is the earliest possible date for all rules on distancing to be scrapped.
Doomsdayiscoming · 22/02/2021 16:31

@Ch3rish

Covid is pretty seasonal.

Things will be trickier in December than July, 100%.

Still, with vaccines, i doubt it’ll be like we’ve ever had (caveat unless some nasty variant completely evades current vaccines). People will die, but it will be something that is lived with.

Cccc1111 · 22/02/2021 16:31

Are there not already enough doom-monger threads that the doom-mongers could join instead, rather than invading this one?? It’s nice to see a positive thread.

People are allowed to be happy if they want to.

If you have a problem with other people being happy, then that’s your problem go take your misery elsewhere.

CovidCrow · 22/02/2021 16:32

@TheGonnagle

June 21st, massive national party day I reckon!

I'm in! 🎉 🥂🍻🍷🍾 🎈

Donoteatthekittens · 22/02/2021 16:33

Ch3rish - have you ever heard of attack the game not the player? No? I never know why people on Mumsnet get so angry. You have a difference of opinion, there’s no need to explode dramatically.

@B33Fr33

I've already seen some dim witted freaks celebrating from two households chucking back ciders and basically acting like the extent of intelligence we have come to expect around here. How on earth will it work now? Cases will be rising before they go back to school at this rate! Another lockdown before the end of the year thanks to the "leadership" we have come to expect and the "considered" public response. Fuck. In. Hell. Never going to end.
Oh dear 😥
NovemberR · 22/02/2021 16:35

It's only positive if you believe this clown could find his arse without a map...

I wouldn't trust a word he said. Suspect that flinging 10m kids and school staff all straight back in again will mean we're back to lockdown at some point in the future. They never seem to learn.

I'm certainly not 'crying with joy' because Boris has made boosterish noises!

Beebityboo · 22/02/2021 16:35

Sorry did he say when people are allowed to back to the office?

Chatterbox1987 · 22/02/2021 16:36

To those not getting their hopes up. If this doesn't work then it clearly shows the vaccines don't work etc... so either way we might aswell open up as they are planning... I honestly think this it now.. no going back... I even thought Boris spoke with confidence about it and didn't mumble his way through... Best I have felt in a long time!

Firkinhavinalaugh · 22/02/2021 16:36

So, if you don’t know, a firkin is usually to be found in a pub.

You may hate a pub, but it’s my job, my career my last 30 and my next 30 years. It’s not a den of ill repute, it brings my community together and has done a lot of good within the community from helping to fundraise to people meeting and starting families.

We’ve celebrated births and we’ve commiserated deaths and the paid tribute to those lives within the wall of the local
Pub.

Today there is a light we never thought would come, after a dark we never ever expected.

Doomsdayiscoming · 22/02/2021 16:37

I hope the timelines are moved forward if things are looking better than expected.

75% reduction in people admitted to hospital in England in 5 weeks. (Source dashboard England section: England daily admissions. 12th Jan 4134. 19th Feb: 1068).

whatsthestory123 · 22/02/2021 16:37

ao has Boris mentioned when we can stop wearing face masks?

Mally2020 · 22/02/2021 16:39

Still completey ignored and abandoned all students still stuck in halls and uni cities though, we have been stuck here for months not able to go home, don't have bubbles because we haven't met anyone new nor have we even been to our universities yet. Boris told us it was okay to return back to uni accom for the new term then to put us in a lockdown. I think there will be an increase in mental health issues and suicide attempts over the next few months for young people.

fromdownwest · 22/02/2021 16:41

Not if you live in Wales and you have Heir Drakeford in charge!

KatherineJaneway · 22/02/2021 16:41

I am so happy gyms will be reopening. Pleased for kids as well.

Cccc1111 · 22/02/2021 16:41

@NovemberR People have different opinions. People being positive doesn’t make them less wise/less intelligent than you. People are allowed to be positive. Were you not able to search for one of the doom-monger posts?

Schoolchoicesucks · 22/02/2021 16:42

Has he said anything about universities? I've not seen anything in the headlines.

prettygreenteacup · 22/02/2021 16:43

I really don't understand the posts claiming this will all go to shit. We have a mass vaccination programme that is proving to be successful!! Allow some positivity in your life, Jesus! There's every reason to hope and every reason to believe that summer 2021 will actually start resembling normality!

zafferana · 22/02/2021 16:43

What's different about this year vs. last is vaccines. By the time the kids break up for the summer all eligible adults should have had at least one vaccine, which means herd immunity.

So while the usual doom-sayers could barely wait to jump in and piss all over everyone's happiness, they're wrong (barring a new variant that can outwit the vaccines).

I'm happy [happy]

dreamingofsun · 22/02/2021 16:43

well i'm glad people on here are happy.

its at least another month before i can walk outside my local town, which would have made a massive difference to my life (and scientists on TV have been saying that no-one has caught covid on the beach). Still cant see my son for months, and gyms seems forever away.
