Hope no-one minds me starting this. Apologies if another has started too. Please can someone add the pretty pictures.

NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

Please note, this is a thread to share good news and for wobblers to be reassured. Doomploppers will be met with scorn and derision!

Government school opening information

www.gov.uk/government/news/mass-testing-for-secondary-pupils-as-all-schools-and-colleges-fully-reopenfrom8-march

I can't help but wonder, with the masks in school and college being an "added temporary measure" (wording from the guidance), up to the end of this term and the social distancing review over by mid April, does this mean masks are on their way out?

louisejxxx · 23/02/2021 07:04

Woken up feeling very optimistic this morning. I’m scared to put the news on and have it ruined.

I’m on countdown now to my next important date (I made a list a week or so ago, to try and keep me going) - 6 days until my ds’s secondary school place is confirmed on 1st March!

Shiny new thread and page 9 already Shock

Hi everyone

I hope so. The social distancing review includes review of masks, 2m and working from home if you can so hopefully we will see some changes to all of that / an understanding of when it will change by June.
FourTeaFallOut · 23/02/2021 07:51

I think the plan is to jettison masks from the fourth step. I suppose masks might be required up until then. While I'd happily send my kids to school in a hazmat suit if it were required, I think they would be over the move if they can ditch masks prior to that.

Redcherries · 23/02/2021 08:40

I think it’s all amazing news, very excited to see lockdown lift and the back of shielding (@FuzzyPuffling we chatted on other threads, I’ve lost friends to shielding too, some people are very strange in their views)

If you can meet one person socially from the 8th does that mean the household can do something socially too, not mixing. Could me and dd have a picnic on our local beach one afternoon?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 23/02/2021 08:42

My 14 yo (autistic traits) loves masks. He says he likes not having to worry about whether he has got the right facial expression. He has been wearing a mask in lessons since school went back in September. Grin

Yes, picnics with your household or one other person are allowed from 8 March. From this link www.gov.uk/coronavirus

"From 8 March...Outdoor recreation, such as a picnic, is allowed. This can be on your own, with one other person, or with your household or support bubble."

Redcherries · 23/02/2021 09:04

Thanks @CornishYarg how bloody exciting!

Redcherries · 23/02/2021 09:05

Ohhh that is genuine excitement not sarcasm, just in case it read wrong. Girls day out out.

CornishYarg · 23/02/2021 09:06

@Redcherries

Thanks *@CornishYarg* how bloody exciting!
I know! My walking buddy and I are excitedly looking forward to eating sandwiches on a bench!
sometimesamazinggrace · 23/02/2021 09:17

Feeling confused by initial reports that the message would be "limit travel" and that it now seems to be "stay local" from 29th March. Anyone seen anything clear on how far we can go to meet a friend for a picnic? And whether that can be by public transport?

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 23/02/2021 09:24

From what I have read Whitty and co haven't set distances. Something about wanting people to do their own risk assessment

That could change though. The masks guidance for schools has already. The first release said secondary masks required. Now it is on the site as advised. Do like a suggestion. Though individual schools can obviously make it compulsory. There will be some heads that may not.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 23/02/2021 09:40

I think with the deliberate vagueness over what local means it will change depending on how the covid numbers are going as well as vary between areas. I would probably be inclined to be pragmatic and think ‘how likely am I to be stopped?’ This means not attempting to meet a friend at the beach if it’s a sunny bank holiday even if it’s less than 5 miles because obviously the police will focus their efforts there but not worry about distance if covid numbers are super low and it’s a direction nobody else is going to be going in.

JemimaPyjamas · 23/02/2021 10:29

For the first time in quite a while, I am not relying on this thread to lift my spirits!

I am also feeling more optimistic about our potential holiday (it's been a rollercoaster on that front from the week we booked it!) which would be bloody incredible if it went ahead as we've postponed three times and can't go next year so it's now or never! Its a first world kind of issue I know, but something to look forward to has been so important of late.

I am also delighted that the schools go back in two weeks. It's been too long and DS really needs the interaction. I am also hoping my work will pick up a bit more soon too as I've had a huge drop in income.

I now need to stop drinking bloody wine and lose some of this bloody lockdown weight - least I have an incentive now!

FuzzyPuffling · 23/02/2021 11:05

Anyone want to have a picnic with me?

alreadytaken · 23/02/2021 11:17

@FuzzyPuffling would be willing to have a picnic with you, but the "keep local" message might still be a problem.

Pomegranatespompom · 23/02/2021 11:34

I'd love a picnic. I can provide pink gin plus marmite hummus and cheese straws.

I'm also hopefully for a holiday @JemimaPyjamas

JemimaPyjamas · 23/02/2021 11:36

Count me in with your picnic too!

@Pomegranatespompom I knew you’d be optimistic about holidays too!

2020CanDoOne · 23/02/2021 11:37

I can’t wait to get down to Cornwall again, we may get to Devon at the end of the Easter holidays if Haven are open. It feels so much more positive today Smile

FuzzyPuffling · 23/02/2021 11:37

I can provide scones as long as the jam goes on first (controversial!)

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 23/02/2021 11:39

As long as there is cream I am not going to argue about what goes where and when.

sheslittlebutfierce · 23/02/2021 11:40

I am meeting a friend for a socially distanced walk this week. And I know its not allowed but I am travelling 8 miles to do it. I have had enough.

Cannot wait to tick off the days ahead
