16.8 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4155962-10-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to discuss our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain or anything else along those lines - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a mind-blowing 16,875,536 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 32% (or 1 in every 3.1) of all UK adults.

Every day, hundreds of thousands more people are gaining excellent levels of protection against this sodding virus. So, let’s keep jab jab jabbing our way onwards, upwards and out of this. Covid, we’re coming for ya!!!

Lots of reports that vaccine mass hubs are very quiet.

I hope this gets sorted out. Seems sensible to allow more people to book online even if in the next age group down. Better to have people vaccinated.

PuzzledObserver · 22/02/2021 18:36

@PilatesPeach that points to supply, then. But if you put that together with what @Jinglealltheway25 says..... I wonder whether doses are being hung on to to make sure they’ve got enough 2nd doses - they need to ramp those up from next week.

Boglins · 22/02/2021 18:53

I wonder whether they've held doses back in order to offer all school staff a first jab before March 8th. Interesting to see if there's any mention of this in the press conference tonight.

Also hello all, my first post but have been following avidly! Thank you for the wonderfully cheering threads on this, it's genuinely been a high point of each day! Both mine and DH's immediate family members have all been jabbed or invited to be jabbed except the 2 of us (and children)! Guess it's good in one way as we're not obviously vulnerable but also starting to feel a bit left out!

Jerble · 22/02/2021 20:45

At our hub, we are closed for 6 days as no supply. Longest gap we’ve had for ages. Been told to expect more gaps in the next month or so due to low supply. Then once it ramps up again we’ll be focusing on the second doses.

On a positive note, I was very reassured by Chris Whitty tonight. After the reports that he was in opposition to the government's plan, it was good to hear him say that this wasn't true.

He isn't the sort of person you'd normally see as a presenter on the telly these days, but he has a quiet intelligence and credibility. I don't think he would have said all that if he wasn't in agreement, he has underpinned the plan.

The idea of waiting 5 weeks and then seeing what is the outcome is just what a consultant might do in an outpatient cllnic as well. This is not taking things too fast so that you can nip any negative change in the bud.

The discussion of the vaccines was great (I will go back and look at the transcripts when they come out). Very positive.

Fingers crossed then.

CaveMum · 23/02/2021 09:26

Got everything crossed for 18,000,000 today! I know numbers have been going down over the last few days and I'm hoping yesterday was just a blip. We need 276,161 to get over the line.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 23/02/2021 09:29

18 million sounds good Smile

buttery81 · 23/02/2021 09:29

You've got your 1 in 3 of all adults @buttery81!

Yes! The numbers were a bit low yesterday but I’m very pleased to have reached this massive milestone. 1 in 3 - I mean, wow wow wow!!!

I’m also hoping to break the 18 million barrier today. Then it’s onwards and upwards to the big 20 million! Grin

We’ve just had an email from our son’s nursery to say that every member of staff has now had their first dose of vaccine - they were put on the standby list at our local mass hub (10 mins from the nursery itself) so have been getting done as and when spare vaccines were available Grin

cockneygurl · 23/02/2021 12:12

My parents (60 & 61) have just been able to book via the NHS covid vaccine website link, even though it says over 64 years old only.

It's obviously not update.

SPREAD THE WORD!! 😂😂

Yay my husband has just had his first vaccine today, such a relief, as he is 57, slightly overweight, asthma, he had a stroke a few years ago and has a heart murmur. He will be one of the numbers in today’s total 😊

CaveMum · 23/02/2021 14:12

Not going to get to 18,000,000 today sadly - looks like another

WannabeGilmoreGirl · 23/02/2021 14:29

Fab thread - I will have mine on Sunday.

So proud of what the UK is achieving

Level75 · 23/02/2021 15:15

Is there any news about how they're approaching the rest of the adult population once the priority groups are done?

mateysmum · 23/02/2021 15:21

I can now book for DH - aged 61 in Somerset - it wouldn't let me do it a couple of days ago. Loads of slots available from Saturday both in the local hub and the pharmacy.

I had a quiet look on the site for DH (not 60 yet), in part out of interest as it would be great to let the teachers know at our school if people in this age bracket can book locally, but cannot book right now.

Soon. Very soon.

Let's hope it all goes smoothly onwards.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 23/02/2021 15:29

My grumpy git 54 year old husband who should be group 9 has just got the textGrin

He says he will book when he gets home from work 🥳

Thanks so much. I just booked in my DH for tomorrow afternoon - he's 60 and we were getting slightly concerned as younger friends were getting calls. There was availability for a lot of the day so things must be quiet. I'm going to go along with my NHS card in case they've got some leftovers.
