16.8 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4155962-10-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to discuss our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain or anything else along those lines - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a mind-blowing 16,875,536 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 32% (or 1 in every 3.1) of all UK adults.

Every day, hundreds of thousands more people are gaining excellent levels of protection against this sodding virus. So, let’s keep jab jab jabbing our way onwards, upwards and out of this. Covid, we’re coming for ya!!!

I was looking at some ONS stats which seemed to indicate that nearly 9m UK residents will have covid antibodies from having had the virus as so I'm guessing nearly 1/2 the population have some immunity with the vaccinations too. Although there will be duplications where people have had the virus and been vaccinated too.

MaddieElla · 22/02/2021 10:58

@Titsywoo I agree. My social media is all about the negativity and very quiet when it comes to any sort of success.

Well on this thread we will cheerlead our way through this massive achievement. 🥳

@Ifionlyknewthenwhatiknownow3 that made me get a lump in my throat. So happy for you. Smile

And great news re the vaccine effect. Grin

DdraigGoch · 22/02/2021 12:31

There's certainly something batshit about social media. Public Health Wales posted on their Facebook page about the good news upthread and in the space of less than an hour, there were scores of comments from people in England (with no obvious connection to Wales) along the lines of "it's all lies, wake up sheeple" etc.

Why would people born and raised in England, with no apparent connection to Wales be paying attention to the Public Health Wales Facebook page? The few comments from actual residents of Wales were positive about the news so it must be some kind of coordinated trolling campaign.

Paddy1234 · 22/02/2021 12:50

Don't get me started on the anti vaxxers. The amount of copy and paste on my social media is awful but luckily those being vaccinated are being applauded

ILookAtTheFloor · 22/02/2021 12:53

That Wales daily update always pops up for me too, and I have absolutely no connections to Wales at all, not even been there for years! So not necessarily some coordinated attack, just opportunity I reckon.

DdraigGoch · 22/02/2021 12:59

I was just amazed at the speed of their response. They were there within minutes. I suppose that if someone spends their life posting batshit covid conspiracy theories, Facebook algorithms push covid posts their way.

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 22/02/2021 13:08

@DdraigGoch That thread popped up on my newsfeed too as one of my FB friends had commented (sensibly!). It was truly terrifying!! I reported a few of the comments as they were just awful.

DdraigGoch · 22/02/2021 13:49

Thankfully plenty of sensible people are now on that thread. It's just amazing how virtually all of the comments within the first half hour of posting were conspiraloons.

OooErrThor · 22/02/2021 14:10

It will be interesting to see if now they've moved from the more vulnerable people whether the daily vaccinations go up.

I would have assumed that they have got the 'harder to reach' people all done and the people who are now on the list will be more mobile and easier to vaccinate.

I am greedy to get those numbers up.

InterfectoremVulpes · 22/02/2021 14:25

113987 first doses in England for today (yesterday). Bit low but not unexpected really

Frazzled6 · 22/02/2021 14:40

Some areas are way ahead of others.. I expect the 16-65 roll out will keep the numbers low because its controlled at a lower level.

Love this thread!

We had another busy morning at our vaccine hub today, almost 100% attendance, only 3 people needed chasing up after not coming for their appointments on Friday and 1 of those turns out is in hospital. The vast majority of people are so happy to come along for their jabs and are incredibly thankful, I love my time there, it really is a joyful place.

Our little hub vaccinates on average 2 people every 5 minutes, sometimes up to 3 every 5 minutes. The logistics behind it all blows my mind. We, as a nation, have certainly knocked this right out the park!

buttery81 · 22/02/2021 14:58

What a fantastic post, thanks @HalfDutchGirl!

Absolutely. DH’s 70-something aunt in Spain still hasn’t heard a peep!

@AnyFucker

Hi I wanted to ask you about this post:

"NHS worker but not a nurse. DH got his vaccine due to being in my household. He is so thankful, but it really makes sense as theoretically I could bring the virus home to him or he could infect me so removing me from the NHS workforce"

I am in my 50s with asthma and my DP is a clinical NHS worker, who sometimes goes to covid wards. I was wondering what the process was by which your DH was able to get the vaccine based on you being NHS staff?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 22/02/2021 15:13

My admiration for the people who have worked their socks off to reach these results is unbounded.

But I am still cautious, if rejoicing.

After my first dose last Thursday (18th February) I am still planning to shield as much as possible until my second dose. It would be silly to have got this far unhurt and then be one of the small % who get hospitalised with it. I mean, what a waste that would be of a whole year's being careful!

AnyFucker · 22/02/2021 15:44

@onionbagel will pm you

You've got your 1 in 3 of all adults @buttery81!
DdraigGoch · 22/02/2021 17:04

Looking at the breakdown of 2nd doses, Wales accounts for more than half of them today while NI managed -11 2nd doses. How on earth did that happen?

PuzzledObserver · 22/02/2021 17:32

I know this is a celebration thread. Any ideas why yesterday’s total was.... less than we might have been hoping for?

  • supply issue
  • areas getting close to the end of the eligible groups, not being allowed to move on
  • lots of no shows

Any thoughts?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 22/02/2021 17:37

Sunday?

Not that it would reduce the numbers, but it might reduce the amount of them being tabulated, same as it does with the covid death/case stats sometimes.

Jinglealltheway25 · 22/02/2021 17:38

The vaccine numbers are very low and Pfizer and AZ say no interruption to supply.

I wonder if group 6 is slowing everything down as it's going through GP's?

Lots of reports that vaccine mass hubs are very quiet.

If that's true, surely they should invite group 7 to the mass hubs in order to keep up the pace?

CaveMum · 22/02/2021 17:41

PHE reporting that Pfizer vaccine reduces symptomatic and asymptomatic cases by at least 70% Grin

PilatesPeach · 22/02/2021 18:14

My hub is shut for 5 days due to supply being diverted elsewhere. It was also shut for a few days last week for same reason. Seems some hubs are open but quiet and some are shut entirely for days at a time. I haven't been needed there as a volunteer now for a fortnight.

CaveMum · 22/02/2021 18:18

Some hubs are definitely operating below capacity: Sir Kier Starmer said in his response to the Prime Minister’s statement that his local hub informed him they had capacity over the weekend to vaccinate every teacher in the local borough, if they were allowed to do so.
