This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4155962-10-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to discuss our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain or anything else along those lines - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a mind-blowing 16,875,536 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 32% (or 1 in every 3.1) of all UK adults.

Every day, hundreds of thousands more people are gaining excellent levels of protection against this sodding virus. So, let’s keep jab jab jabbing our way onwards, upwards and out of this. Covid, we’re coming for ya!!!

My local vaccination centre isn’t doing any vaccines this week. They’ve run out and don’t expect any more supplies for a few days. I was chatting this morning to a friend and neighbour who is administering vaccines there. Pfizer not AZ.

@herecomesthsun

I had a quiet look on the site for DH (not 60 yet), in part out of interest as it would be great to let the teachers know at our school if people in this age bracket can book locally, but cannot book right now.

Soon. Very soon.

Let's hope it all goes smoothly onwards.

The 50s booking is definitely still a post code lottery. For now anyway. We are in London and the take up isn't as good here. Which means they are at least flying through the groups. Hopefully some more people will be convinced over time. Else we are probably reliant on vaccination and a lot of herd immunity. Which isn't great. I would rather have a slower roll out with a high percentage of local population vaccinated. All swings and roundabouts really.

Hope you get to book that appointment soon

NotPennysBoat · 23/02/2021 15:46

Can I just ask if the NHS booking link also works for people in Wales, or is it just England?

CaveMum · 23/02/2021 15:48

19,753 in Scotland yesterday so we might get over the 200,000 mark if NI have done more than 11,000 but I can't remember what their average daily figures have been over the last few days.

Try it and see. I just put in a Welsh postcode on the first page & it took me to the next so looks promising.

So close to 18m! We’ll smash it tomorrow!

People vaccinated up to and including 22 February 2021
First dose: 17,916,181
Second dose: 642,788

CaveMum · 23/02/2021 17:13

192,341 first doses and 18,463 second doses.

CaveMum · 23/02/2021 17:15

In the spirit of being positive, today is the second highest number of second doses we’ve given in a single day.

Really wanted 18 million but tomorrow will be the day!

What do you think we'll get to by the time things start opening up again on the 8th?

PuzzledObserver · 23/02/2021 17:43

At least 23 million first doses... and over a million second doses. But important that the first dose people remember it takes at least 2 weeks till they've got any immunity at all, and it continues to build for another week or two after that.

This was posted on another thread:

I've volunteered at a large vaccination centre for the past few weekends. Up until hitting the government's target we were working 13 hours shifts. Over the weekend I have been in a centre with a fully stocked fridge and more staff than patients. I live in a different county to where I've volunteered and the story is the same. The rumour is that the CCG has throttled patient appointments at the large centres, so their GPS can do the vaccines and take the payment. (The board of the CCG is strikingly similar to the list of partners in the large GP practice which have merged all the local practices over the past 5 years) I hope this rumour is not true and there is an innocent explanation, but something feels very wrong

Frazzled6 · 23/02/2021 17:54

I am wondering if it is how the calmed down the EU situation in the end though.

It could be this, although I've had my vaccination today and chatting to the volunteers who stated they could double the amount of vaccinations done each day through the local hub because people are in and out.. Whereas in the early days it was taking understandly much longer. Brought a tear to my eye when she said the elderly had been dressing up with the men turning up in suits.

Really good to see a good number of the older Asian communities having their jab today.

AllAroundTheWrekin · 23/02/2021 18:25

I really hope that isn't true Chocolo.

Baileysforchristmas · 23/02/2021 18:49

My husband went today, the vaccination centre was very busy, lots of people, rolling conveyor belt going through and was very surprised he had Pfizer vaccine.

whenwillthemadnessend · 23/02/2021 18:50

Yippee. Thx for new thread

Mumoftwoinprimary · 23/02/2021 19:34

@CaveMum

In the spirit of being positive, today is the second highest number of second doses we’ve given in a single day.
Today is also the lowest number of cases since 2nd October.
Chocolo · 23/02/2021 19:57

Me too @AllAroundTheWrekin but hopefully if it is, something will be done about it very soon as the entire country and government is relying on the vaccine rollout so I can’t see groups getting away with disrupting it.

doritodiva · 23/02/2021 20:19

Thanks for the heads up guys. I've checked online and my dad is able to book in for his vaccine! Sadly not my mom, but at least one of them can

AllAroundTheWrekin · 23/02/2021 20:33

That's true Chocolo. It wouldn't be in the governments interest so it would get addressed.

buttery81 · 23/02/2021 20:45

Yes indeed. Can’t wait to see that big juicy number 18 on the gov.uk website!

@herecomesthsun

On a positive note, I was very reassured by Chris Whitty tonight. After the reports that he was in opposition to the government's plan, it was good to hear him say that this wasn't true.

He isn't the sort of person you'd normally see as a presenter on the telly these days, but he has a quiet intelligence and credibility. I don't think he would have said all that if he wasn't in agreement, he has underpinned the plan.

The idea of waiting 5 weeks and then seeing what is the outcome is just what a consultant might do in an outpatient cllnic as well. This is not taking things too fast so that you can nip any negative change in the bud.

The discussion of the vaccines was great (I will go back and look at the transcripts when they come out). Very positive.

Fingers crossed then.

I also found Chris Whitty very reassuring. I felt like he and Boris Johnson were actually on the same page

I typed in my age to the UK vaccine queue calculator and it has slipped by a month.
