This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4155962-10-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to discuss our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain or anything else along those lines - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a mind-blowing 16,875,536 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 32% (or 1 in every 3.1) of all UK adults.

Every day, hundreds of thousands more people are gaining excellent levels of protection against this sodding virus. So, let’s keep jab jab jabbing our way onwards, upwards and out of this. Covid, we’re coming for ya!!!

Today’s official numbers:

First dose: 24,839,906
Second dose: 1,663,646

The halfway point of 26.5 million is getting so close!

My sister has been offered hers via the GP and she's only 41 Grin(no vulnerabilities but lives with CV, don't know if that made a difference)

I’m going to guess Saturday for the official 26.5 million figure on gov.uk Grin

Also - it’s incredible to think that 8 million more people have received their 1st dose since this thread was begun!

It is so strange to think that if I go for a walk this time next week and walk past another adult that adult will be more likely to be vaccinated than not.

Deaths have indeed gone below 1000 over the last week. 893 to be exact.

A couple of weeks ago I predicted that we would be down to below 700 deaths per week by tomorrow. I think that I was a little bit optimistic but considering when I wrote it deaths were at about 2000 per week I’m not far off!

TheWoollybacksWife · 16/03/2021 22:21

I booked my vaccination today 🎉

I do have a question though. I have booked my first jab at a local pharmacy but I couldn't book my second jab at the same venue and could only book in at the nearest large hub which is at the other end of the county. Does anyone know if it's possible to change to a different location if a closer appointment becomes available?

I didn’t think of it like that. How wonderful!

@TheWoollybacksWife I don't know the answer to your question but my husband also had the same thing. First one is local second one at a large hub. I'm wondering if they are planning on closing local sites once first doses have been done and just used big hubs for second doses?

TheWoollybacksWife · 16/03/2021 22:33

Thank you @alwisndbam

If I get the chance I'll ask about possible venues when I have my jab. It would be convenient to have it more locally but I'm incredibly grateful to have it wherever it happens.

Website (national) showing all over 50s can book now.

That essentially means all of groups 1-9 are now invited.and 4 weeks ahead of the target date.

Now that’s something worth celebrating.

40s won’t be far off now..

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/03/2021 07:36

I hope they don't close smaller centres - they are precisely the places where reluctant or nervous people end up choosing because they feel they can have that reassurance from local people.

🎉 Great news to wake up to!
nordica · 17/03/2021 08:45

I doubt they would close any vaccination centres now that they really need the capacity to cover 1st and 2nd doses at the same time. Might be the smaller ones either get booked up quicker or release their appointment slots nearer to the time and not 12 weeks in advance?

Bordois · 17/03/2021 08:53

I'm still being optimistic and sticking with Monday for 40+ even if it is the upper end of the age bracket (45+) and then all over 40s later in the week.

CaveMum · 17/03/2021 10:45

I’m feeling stupidly excited for our friend Hugo’s 2pm Tweet!

Someone should tell him he has a MN Fan Club!

I do love that people reply to his tweets as if he’s the one doing the jabs himself 😂

It is so strange to think that if I go for a walk this time next week and walk past another adult that adult will be more likely to be vaccinated than not.

I work with predominantly older adults - virtually everyone I talk to (over Zoom) is vaccinated.

I had my first jab at the GP-run hub, which is about 3 miles away. DH was one of the first invited (care home worker) and had to go to a hospital hub 15 miles away.

I drove him, because

a) he is a big baby;
b) I bought a new car during the November lockdown and have hardly been able to use it, so any excuse.

His 2nd jab is tomorrow - another trip out for the car!! Oh - and he'll have a top-up for his already excellent protection.

On another tangent.... I wonder what the people who post stuff about vaccines being POISON and experimental gene therapy make of our rejoicing when we see the numbers going up?

mateysmum · 17/03/2021 11:42

Just had mine at our local mass vaccination centre. It was really busy.We arrived early and were asked to go away and come back 10 mins later as the car park was full.
Didn't have to wait when we went back but there was a continuous flow of people. 10 booths operating flat out.

PurpleWh1teGreen · 17/03/2021 12:24

I work at a centre that has more than double our throughput this week. It's fabulous to see the impact this - and other centres - are having on the total.

It's like a telethon totaliser!!

Paddy1234 · 17/03/2021 13:47

At the three counties show ground in Malvern there has been one unit working up till last week. From Monday there has been three going at full pelt ❤️

Bordois · 17/03/2021 13:56

6 minutes! Come on Hugo, don't disappoint me 🤣
