This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4155962-10-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to discuss our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain or anything else along those lines - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a mind-blowing 16,875,536 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 32% (or 1 in every 3.1) of all UK adults.

Every day, hundreds of thousands more people are gaining excellent levels of protection against this sodding virus. So, let’s keep jab jab jabbing our way onwards, upwards and out of this. Covid, we’re coming for ya!!!

@Dadnotamum72

What figure do they base as the total population? The amount of people with nhs numbers in the system or the real number of people.

I think it’s the ONS population estimate.

If you think about it, the ‘real number of people’ changes minute by minute. There’s a leap in the number of adults at midnight as you add in every kid having their 18th birthday, and then it declines over the day as others pop their clogs.

Eccle80 · 16/03/2021 09:06

Yes the weekly NHS England reports say ONS population estimates, because using GP figures would exclude those not registered with a GP

Frazzled2207 · 16/03/2021 09:13

I imagine the ONS numbers are as close as estimate as they can get tbh.

Bordois · 16/03/2021 09:33

Which is why more than 100% of the over 70s have been vaccinated 🤣

nordica · 16/03/2021 09:54

The BBC keeps quoting a figure of just over 31 million people in the phase one priority groups (over 50s and those with underlying conditions + health and care staff). But what I don't seem to find out anywhere is if this figure already takes into account duplication within these numbers i.e. a 60 year old nurse or a 55 year old who has been shielding would both be counted twice otherwise. But then many under 50s will also have been included in these phase one groups due to their work or health conditions. Just trying to work out how close they are to having invited everyone in the phase one groups.

lurker101 · 16/03/2021 10:06

Some more good news on vaccine plans/uptake - I posted yesterday that NI had opened online booking to over 50s - today the NI Dept for Health has reported that in the 3 hours after booking opened 30,000 people had booked their vaccinations - roughly 1.7% of NI population! Seems like demand is very strong 🎉

Frazzled2207 · 16/03/2021 10:41

good news for this week - hugo gye is predicting 5m vaccinated this week
inews.co.uk/news/politics/over-50s-call-up-covid-19-vaccine-supply-surge-means-half-adults-soon-jabbed-915170

However, not to dismiss his optimism but I know wales are behind a bit with the age groups as they are prioritising pfizer second doses (my parents just had theirs a month or so after their first). The welsh government has tweeted this morning that it expects all 50+ to be vaccinated by Mid April

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 16/03/2021 10:57

5 million jabs in a week ❤ That will be some else

Glad the take up in NI is going well

I think as Boris has sent the army to help in London, Scotland and NI already. If there was any falling behind that would happen again. Though Wales seems to be doing good number of jabs a day wise. There just doing things a little differently. It will probably all even out a bit with so much supply available anyway.

Lots of good news jab days ahead Grin

Bordois · 16/03/2021 13:31

Don't let me down Hugo!

CaveMum · 16/03/2021 14:04

That’ll do for the start of the week!

This is brilliant up 84% on last monday. We will hit the magic 50% of all adults in a couple of days at this rate
@HugoGye
440,051 new vaccinations registered yesterday

England 330,676 1st doses / 32,082 2nd doses
Scotland 34,516 / 8,947
Wales 16,935 / 8,728

FourTeaFallOut · 16/03/2021 14:06

440k on a TUESDAY?

...it's happening...

I know I’m jumping the gun slightly here, but getting to 26.5 million 1st doses (half the UK adult population) is going to be a HUGE moment. And we’re so close now!

Mumoftwoinprimary · 16/03/2021 14:18

So more than 380k first doses. I think that might be the best Tuesday number ever!

Also exciting is that I think we might go under 1000 deaths in the last week today. When you consider that we had 1001 deaths in one day on the 10th Feb (less than 5 weeks ago) this is nothing short of miraculous!

pinkunicornwithacatonitsback · 16/03/2021 14:26

I was speaking with a parent this morning at school drop off. He's a nurse working at our local hospital and I mentioned that I thought that I would get my jab perhaps mid-late April (I'm 36) and he told me that in our area apparently, they are now starting on the 40-50 group. YAY!

I didn't realise they had got that far in our local area, but we have been one of the top performing regions in terms of jabs, so it is believable to think that if they aren't there yet, they may be almost there!

It finally feels that there's an end in sight, I'm so happy!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 16/03/2021 14:42

Look at those lovely jab numbers ❤🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

WaverleyPirate · 16/03/2021 14:56

I'm having my vaccine tomorrow. Next age group down so its moving fast.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 16/03/2021 15:38

Thanks to this board, I ignored the "55 and over" on the front page of the NHS booking site, and have booked in my husband (aged 51) for his jabs. When he tried to do it himself, he was told

"You need to book both of your appointments again

You were unable to go to/missed your 1st appointment to get the coronavirus vaccination."

which is crazy because you can't book again for something you haven't ever been able to book before.

So it's worth being persitent or trying again if it refuses you.

EasterIssland · 16/03/2021 15:59

My husband cant still book his jab (43 next week, south west)

This is moving fast and happy to read what the EMA has said today, hope this doesn't cause many anti getting the vaccine and we soon get most of the population vaccinated!

Bordois · 16/03/2021 16:00

Thats a known glitch if you try to book it registers it as an attempt so tells you you've missed it next time. You can just try to book again

DdraigGoch · 16/03/2021 16:27

440k on a Tuesday?!

Goes to check calendar to see if it's April 1st...

Frazzled2207 · 16/03/2021 17:14

I think it’s the biggest Tuesday by a country mile. It might be a massive week.

CaveMum · 16/03/2021 17:33

More good stats
