This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4155962-10-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to discuss our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain or anything else along those lines - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a mind-blowing 16,875,536 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 32% (or 1 in every 3.1) of all UK adults.

Every day, hundreds of thousands more people are gaining excellent levels of protection against this sodding virus. So, let’s keep jab jab jabbing our way onwards, upwards and out of this. Covid, we’re coming for ya!!!

Must be a big number if its taking this long to count!

Bordois · 17/03/2021 14:04

And it is! Over 500k

16.8 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!
EasterIssland · 17/03/2021 14:05

and nearly 100k 2nd vaccines!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/03/2021 14:09

Fantastic stuff!

Mumoftwoinprimary · 17/03/2021 14:09

Over half a million jabs on a Tuesday!!!!!!

AlecTrevelyan006 · 17/03/2021 14:12

Awesome

DdraigGoch · 17/03/2021 14:14

80% up week-on-week!

Redbirds · 17/03/2021 14:24

Had mine this morning (Oxford Zeneca) queue was 400 m to get into vaccination hub. It's great everyone is so keen despite the scare mongering. I know everyone says it but my goodness it was well run; talk about military precision!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 17/03/2021 14:57

Pigging fantastic 🥳🥳🥳

The scaremongering has probably helped make the queue longer. Us British are a stubborn lot and some people will now see it as sticking two fingers up at the scaremongers😂

Pastanred · 17/03/2021 15:05

They’re high but to be fair they were doing similar numbers a few weeks ago if you look back - many days they hit over 500,000

Hopefully these don’t drop

Not this early in the week they weren't. The pattern has always been pretty consistent, starting low at the beginning of the week and then rising to up to 600k by the end. To have jabbed more that 500k on a Tuesday means that things could be very high by the end of the week.
Eccle80 · 17/03/2021 15:13

I think I am right in saying though that this is the biggest ever Tuesday figure, as it is normally one of the lower days, so hopefully the rest of the week will be even higher!

If you want us to do something, the best approach is to bang on and on about how we shouldn't do it. Nothing is more likely to provoke rebellion!
WaverleyPirate · 17/03/2021 15:23

I had my vaccine this morning and took plenty of cakes with me. Aztra Zeneca jab.

They were really happy with the cakes!

This is correct. 433k first doses. The highest Tuesday (announced on a Wednesday) until now was the 9th Feb announcement which was 411k.

And the 9th Feb 411k came with 13k second doses - today we have 95k second doses!

NotPennysBoat · 17/03/2021 16:25

Brilliant numbers today! I'm in my early 40s and feel like it's almost my turn!

I wonder if we'll ever get a breakdown of the death numbers for deaths in the vaccinated and unvaccinated?

That’s exactly how I feel - even more keen to get mine now! Grin

The official numbers are in...

First dose: 25,273,226
Second dose: 1,759,445

FANTASTIC!

I notice that the fall in cases has all but bottomed out, but the drop in deaths is still tanking along at over 30% per week. Deaths are a lagging indicator, which means they should carry on dropping at a fast rate for another 2-3 weeks, even if the effect was only from lockdown. But we know it’s also from vaccination - very significantly now, I suggest.

Last week I think testing was up by 73% or something from the week before. All those school kids being done. So cases are being found that wouldn't have been before. That will continue with more school testing this week. Then home testing after. Cases is really hard to judge for now. Some said to knock around 1000 off the daily total to account for extra testing 🤷‍♀️
Frazzled2207 · 17/03/2021 16:50

if you take away the lateral flow tests which have not been confirmed with a positive - so most of these are presumably false positives - the numbers in cases are still falling. Though possibly not in Scotland which is a bit worrying.

EasterIssland · 17/03/2021 18:09

Have you seen the news ? :(
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-56435549

The NHS has written to local health organisations warning of a "significant reduction in weekly supply" of coronavirus vaccines from the week beginning 29 March for a month.
It says there has been a "reduction in national inbound vaccines supply".
It also says organisations should "ensure no further appointments are uploaded to the national booking system or local booking system" in April.

So no over 40s getting vaccinated ? Depressed right now about this all

alwisndbam · 17/03/2021 18:12

I don't understand why there has been such a u turn. I thought this was the point things would get better 🙁

WombatChocolate · 17/03/2021 18:18

Great news today....but tarnished by the delay news too.

So amazing that 25m jabs done. Amazing that by mid March all over 50s can book on the national site.

But tarnished by fact that 40s who expected to be able to book next week, and be jabbed along with the 2nd dosers and those being mopped up from 1-9, are now delayed until May....a delay of 6-7 weeks and a delay which had never been predicted or mentioned, and indeed they were all poised to be invited.

Such a shame, because there is good news today. But loads of 40s feel really cheated today too. And the way it’s been presented by Hancock feels a bit dishonest....saying they always needed to mop up 1-9....well yes, that is true, but it was expected they would mop up 1-9 AND push the rollout to next groups too and THAT has changed.

Frazzled2207 · 17/03/2021 18:21

it's very worrying and I don't understand tbh as i thought all the astra zeneca was being made in the UK so I don't get how the supply would suddenly stop unless it is being exported which I suppose is possible.
Matt Hancock was wrong to downplay it at the conference as it's a fairly serious letter. The government never said about over 40s getting it soon though it was all media.

Perhaps the shortage will be mean less than the second half of march but not massively shorter than what we've been used to. Also moderna and novavax should come on line soon and should help a lot.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/03/2021 18:28

I'm a bit worried about my second jab, due mid April. It was through a gp led centre so I don't have my second appointment yet.
