This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4155962-10-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to discuss our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain or anything else along those lines - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a mind-blowing 16,875,536 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 32% (or 1 in every 3.1) of all UK adults.

Every day, hundreds of thousands more people are gaining excellent levels of protection against this sodding virus. So, let’s keep jab jab jabbing our way onwards, upwards and out of this. Covid, we’re coming for ya!!!

Still says 55 this morning.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 15/03/2021 13:48

Hopefully by the end of the week that will change 🤞

The Who star Roger Daltrey 'grateful' to have received jab

The singer, 77, who is also patron of the Teenage Cancer Trust, had the AstraZeneca vaccine.

"I haven't had blood clots and I haven't got horns growing out of my head. I'm really grateful," he told Good Morning Britain.

Thanks for updating this thread. I love the positivity.

I am late 40s and love hearing that the people being vaccinated are getting younger. It’ll soon be my turn.

Frazzled2207 · 15/03/2021 14:07

We are now on 47% of all adults with a first dose.
Won’t be long until over 50. If the predicted surge happens it could be just days.

I've read some reports of a proposal to do booster jabs for the elderly from August.
www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/coronavirus-news-covid-astrazeneca-vaccine-lockdown-variant/

Extract
A Covid-19 booster vaccine is likely to be rolled out in the autumn to avoid another winter surge, a top government vaccination adviser has said.

Anthony Harnden, acting chair of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation, told the BMJ that the booster would be needed either to protect against a new variant or as a safety net as the duration of protection is unknown.

He said that the booster could be given to certain vulnerable groups or the entire population.

"We certainly don't want to see a winter like we've seen this winter," he said. "And if we've got new variants circulating and we've got dropping levels of immunity due to the vaccination, then that becomes an imperative to do a booster."Mr Harnden suggested that the booster could be rolled out in August or September "rather than later in the year, because of this worry about a large third wave affecting the elderly". He added: "I think we're likely to make a bold decision to recommend a booster dose, even if we haven't got all the evidence of the necessity, just because I think the consequences of not immunising with the booster doses are so big."If it's proved that it's needed months later it may be too late."

Long time since we've had that many doses given on a Monday. Excellent stuff. Looking forward to tomorrow's figures now.

PuzzledObserver · 15/03/2021 16:28

A "just in case" booster in the Autumn for the elderly (and presumably CEV as well) sounds like a very good move. After all, we don't want all those trained vaccinators sitting idle, do we?

Flev · 15/03/2021 17:10

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum it appears they made an error and have now changed it back to over 55s, but are honouring any bookings made by over 40s in good faith this morning.

I’m so pleased everyone is so enthusiastic to get there vaccine, even with all the negative press, I can’t wait to have mine, hopefully the over 50’s will be next week.

DdraigGoch · 15/03/2021 17:40

Today's figures are 50% up on last weeks!

What's even better is that covidvax.live appears to have updated straight away today instead of 18hrs later as had been happening for a few weeks.

DdraigGoch · 15/03/2021 17:41

Scrolling back, Feb 7th is the last Monday announcement which comes close!

I like the idea of a bold move. Many of the mistakes made have been due to hesitation.

I didn't realise the exact vaccine had been shipped from India. Also we may get up to 4 million a week jabbed Grin

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 15/03/2021 18:08

In my area - Surrey - the online site is now working for 51+, at least.

Inching towards me ;-)

What figure do they base as the total population? The amount of people with nhs numbers in the system or the real number of people.
