16.8 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4155962-10-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to discuss our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain or anything else along those lines - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a mind-blowing 16,875,536 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 32% (or 1 in every 3.1) of all UK adults.

Every day, hundreds of thousands more people are gaining excellent levels of protection against this sodding virus. So, let’s keep jab jab jabbing our way onwards, upwards and out of this. Covid, we’re coming for ya!!!

We had some marines in the hospital to support with logistics/portering etc. Great disappointment when they were taken out of uniform and put in scrubs.

Pastanred · 13/03/2021 17:11

Doses have been low a lot recently and today’s figures are still a lot lower than the 500,000+ they have previously done

Prior to today the numbers were really low

WombatChocolate · 13/03/2021 17:18

It is meant to expand rapidly from Monday.

There's an article in the Guardian today that says over 1 million per day will be possible later in month and 40 somethings will all be offered before Easter.

The mass centres are gearing up for an explosion.

WaverleyPirate · 13/03/2021 17:24

I wonder when the next age group band will get called?

buttery81 · 13/03/2021 18:04

Everyone over 40 should be offered their first Covid-19 vaccine by Easter, with a “bumper boost” to supplies allowing the programme to rapidly expand next week...

Stocks are expected to more than double, allowing the NHS to administer up to a million doses a day in coming weeks, government sources said.

This is so exciting - can’t wait!

In order to achieve it they would have to open up to age 50 to 54 year olds next week. Must be soon.

lunar1 · 13/03/2021 21:24

I've not been doing volunteer shifts for a couple of weeks due to supply. Been asked to restart on Monday.

HalfDutchGirl · 13/03/2021 22:31

Like @lunar1 I too am doing volunteer shifts at a local vaccine hub, from Monday we're open 8am-8pm for a week so I think it's all going up a notch, I reckon numbers may well hit that million a day soon.

PreachyGreen · 14/03/2021 14:40

BBBBBIGGGGG nmbers today but I will leave that to a regular to post.

Re 50 - 54 year olds, round here - Yorkshire - I know loads in that age range who got their jab last week, in fact we can't have many left.

Thank you to all the regulars on this thread. It's one of my favourites.

mum2aanda · 14/03/2021 14:41

Huge numbers today 🎉

From Hugo Gye ......

562,995 new vaccinations registered in 🇬🇧 yesterday

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 457,632 1st doses / 38,640 2nd doses
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 21,574 / 3,788
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 29,169 / 7,372
NI 2,486 / 2,334

This is the second biggest day since the start of the rollout, beaten only by the 600k+ reported on 31st Jan.

And I'm going to be in tomorrow's numbers as had mine today 😀

mum2aanda · 14/03/2021 14:43

I love this thread too - apologies for posting the numbers instead of a regular 🙏🏽

Lordamighty · 14/03/2021 15:01

Yes, thanks to the posters who started these threads & who update the numbers regularly. You are helping to preserve my sanity at the moment.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 14/03/2021 15:06

We are going to go over 24 million!

In addition - 23.85 million is 45% of the adult population. We are so close to halfway.

I’m also keen to see the deaths number at 4pm - with the weekend reporting lag I think we are likely to get a new lowest figure for 2021.

Wooooohooo! Fantastic numbers, thanks for sharing @mum2aanda. Excited to see the official figure at 4pm!

Incredible to think that the UK is probably 1/4 through the entire vaccine program when you take into account both doses.

That 25% of people for the most part includes out most vulnerable and our health care workforce.

We might have a bumpy road with schools open but it won't be long before significant numbers of school parents are in the groups being called.

Bordois · 14/03/2021 15:25

Boom!

buttery81 · 14/03/2021 16:05

The official figures are in - we’re over 24 million (and then some)!!

First dose: 24,196,211
Second dose: 1,584,909

What a great way to end the week! Grin

Plus... the big ramp up starts tomorrow! I’m actually looking forward to Monday for once.

It’s fantastic, isn’t it? We need a steady nerve and a big dollop of patience to carry on being cautious a bit longer.

Give it a month, another 30 million jabs done... what, 20m 1st and 10m 2nd? That would put us at 44 million 1st jabs, which is over 80% of adults, and 11.5 million 2nd, over 1 in 5 adults.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 14/03/2021 16:59

44 million - staggering really.

Also, today’s deaths figure was 52 I believe - that’s the lowest I can remember in a long, long time.

I know Monday figures are traditionally “low”, but will we start to see the effects of the ramp up from tomorrow? Hope so!

And a final thought... my mum had her first jab at the start of February, with her second booked in just after Easter. When she had the first jab they had done about 11 million first doses, so if her second dose is early April, that should mean roughly 11 million second doses should be done by then?

Brilliant numbers today 🎉
My partner went on Saturday to Malvern show ground and it was virtually empty but they said they were going to be some big numbers this week as opening it up to the masses Smile

yellowspanner · 14/03/2021 21:13

Amazing numbers.SiL and DD both in their 40's and jabbed with left over jabs at the local pharmacy. They gave their names and tel.no. And got the jabs rather than waste them.

lurker101 · 15/03/2021 09:13

NI - Over 50s can now book online 🎉
