This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4155962-10-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to discuss our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain or anything else along those lines - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a mind-blowing 16,875,536 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 32% (or 1 in every 3.1) of all UK adults.

Every day, hundreds of thousands more people are gaining excellent levels of protection against this sodding virus. So, let’s keep jab jab jabbing our way onwards, upwards and out of this. Covid, we’re coming for ya!!!

DH and I had our jabs today so will be in tomorrow's reported numbers! That is now all our immediate family members (bar children) on both sides who have had a first dose and some are now onto their second!

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/03/12/exclusive-vaccines-40s-easter-bumper-boost-supplies/

Everyone over 40 should be offered their first Covid-19 vaccine by Easter, with a “bumper boost” to supplies allowing the programme to rapidly expand next week...

Stocks are expected to more than double, allowing the NHS to administer up to a million doses a day in coming weeks, government sources said.

It means that all over-50s are expected to receive an invitation for a jab over the next week – around three weeks ahead of the Government’s target.

The Prime Minister had promised that jabs would be offered to all over-50s by April 15, and to everyone over the age of 18 by the end of July.

... there is growing confidence that all adults over 40 will have been offered a first dose of the vaccine before Easter, which falls on April 4

nordica · 12/03/2021 22:23

I'm so hoping this happens. I'm 38 and will need to start using London public transport from mid April so would really love to have my first vaccine before that or very soon after anyway.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 12/03/2021 22:24

Unless they aren't registered with a GP. The system doesn't allow anyone without a GP to book online. Even if they have their NHS number. And of course they aren't going to be called in by a GP they don't have!

I can't quite see the rationale behind this.

Sorry why wouldn't someone be registered with a gp?

Even the refugees and the homeless are given access to this through charities.

I don't understand.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 12/03/2021 22:49

Brilliant news. I mean we kind of guessed it would happen with the way roll out was going but nice to see it confirmed Grin

I’ve been saying it in this thread that I was suspecting my husband would be called around Easter time for his vaccine. Why do I guess this and not euro millions !

Eh? Yes it could be tricky if not registered with a gp but fairly sure the vast majority are. What rationale can you not see?
PigletJohn · 13/03/2021 05:55

maybe people who moved house or are homeless?

Parkandride · 13/03/2021 06:08

Looking forward to seeing numbers ramp up this coming week Smile

Frazzled2207 · 13/03/2021 10:05

@PigletJohn

People who move house can register at new gp easily that shouldn’t be a major issue

There is a specific programme going on to vaccinate the homeless. Nothing to do with age.

Eccle80 · 13/03/2021 10:12

I really hope all the over 40s by Easter is right! With three kids back at school including one already isolating, and being an asthmatic, I would feel much safer for next term if I had been vaccinated.

lurker101 · 13/03/2021 10:14

NI has been granted 100 military medics to help with the vaccine rollout surge. This is very exciting because their figures as a percentage of population are comparable to the other nations, so nothing to suggest it’s to fix a lag. Looks like they’ll be onboard around the time the concert arena goes live for vaccinations. 💉

WombatChocolate · 13/03/2021 10:31

All over 40s being offered it in 3 weeks time, which is when Easter is, will be fab.

It was looking this way from the start if this month, with people saying the 40swould start getting offered it before the end of the month, but lots of people were very dismissive, mentioning people in 60s who hadn’t been done. But it was clear even then that 31 days is a long time and the national booking system has been adding an extra 5 year block of people every week, plus lots of local GP services with population demographics which have allowed them to whizz through the elderly, are already offering it to over 40s.

It will be a big encouragement to people like many teachers who are nervous about being back....they have 2 more weeks at work, and then by the time they return after the Easter hols, lots will have been jabbed or least be booked in.

I think the national booking site will update on Monday to say all over 50s are eligible to book there. People should remember they don’t need to wait for a letter in order to book there.

Late 40s are likely to be able to book there by the end of the week or start of following week. Woohoo!!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 13/03/2021 10:41

They will be doing 40s in a lot of areas by the end of the week for sure. Else people would be sat around with hundreds of doses doing nothing. Parts of London started the 50s way before the booking system allowed it.

All very exciting Grin

nordica · 13/03/2021 11:47

There's usually a Downing St press conference on a Monday isn't it, so that may be when they announce they have opened up the booking for all over 50s?

Although the Telegraph article seems to suggest areas would need permission to move to the phase 2 if other areas are behind - hopefully that doesn't mean a delay to moving down to 40s and 30s age groups.

CaveMum · 13/03/2021 11:59

Hi all, sorry for the recent absence! Glad to see things are looking like they might start moving at pace this week. I know a few people in my area that are in their early 50s that have been invited for their jabs, so it’s definitely moving at pace around here!

Lindy2 · 13/03/2021 13:18

I've been and had mine this morning.

The whole process was so impressive and efficient from start to finish. This vaccine roll out really is something we should be very proud of. I'm very grateful to the NHS.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/03/2021 14:02

Sorry why wouldn't someone be registered with a gp?

Moved house, homeless, had a serious falling out with previous practice and hadn't got round to registering with a different one before March last year, doctor they liked retired and they were looking for a new practice, not been ill or pregnant during the past ten years (that does happen), left university in one place and not yet got a GP in another because it simply wasn't that high on their list of priorities, there can be many different reasons. Changing GP is not always the doddle that it is said to be, after all.

What I wondered was why someone's unique NHS number is apparently not sufficient evidence that they exist for them to be able to register for a vaccination during a national pandemic. Why an absolute requirement for an extra layer of bureaucracy?

Don't get me wrong; I think that the roll-out has been impressive. But it seems a shame it's flawed in a way which means some people may find it all too much faff and not bother.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/03/2021 14:04

I should add that for about fifteen years of my life I was not registered with a GP because I hadn't needed one during that time.

Great figures for today!
So over 450k in total - maybe 80k second doses and 380k first doses. That takes us over 23.5 million. Hooray! 24 million tomorrow maybe????
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 13/03/2021 15:10

Wonderful numbers 🥳🥳🥳🥳

Hopefully by middle of the week we will all be jumping and singing at 4pm. Like a load of football supporters 🤞❤

SomethingOnce · 13/03/2021 15:56

DP (mid-40s asthmatic) has just had his jab administered by a soldier. As his non-wheezy junior, I’m feeling a bit put out EnvyGrin
