AstraZeneca side effects

KarenMarlow3 · 19/02/2021 12:47

Has anyone had side effects after more than 10 days? I'm feeling tired, and slightly nauseous, I had the AstraZeneca on 10th February.
Is it me being a hypochondriac, or is there something else going on? I can't get a doctor's appointment, there aren't any, up to and including 19th March.

@1000umbrellas I'm back to normal now and only have a sore arm especially when reaching up. No fever or that horrible achey feeling.

How are you feeling today? I think we must both be 72 hours or so post jab.

Still have to be aware of symptoms for next 4 weeks due to clot risk. I hope it doesn't bring out the hypochondriac in me

LetSophieGo · 12/05/2021 17:39

I don't have a lot of knowledge in this area, so please be gentle.

If I have a sister (older by 8 yrs) who had the vaccine and she suffered no side effects, would my immune response to same vaccine be similar because we are related, or is it still fairly random?

Thanks!

TokyoSushi · 12/05/2021 17:41

I am on day 9 now, I feel physically absolutely fine but I am so unbelievably tired, not sure if it's related? Yesterday when I was walking to collect the DC from school I walked with my eyes closed for a little bit, that's how tired I am!! 😴😴😴

CosmoMint · 12/05/2021 17:41

I don’t know anyone else personally that has had side effects so long and the news doesn’t talk about long term side effects, so I am glad to have found this thread. I am now three weeks since the AZ jab and every week has seen some improvement. The only thing I have left now is head twinges like what you describe @passmethemilk
I hope my head twinges eventually go. If I went to the doctor now, I am sure they just say everyone gets aches and pains and brush it off, because it’s very mild twinges. But I am pretty sure it’s down to the vaccine as I have never experienced these before. Hoping things get better for everyone.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 12/05/2021 18:41

@ronky30 I'm also experiencing strange pressure at the sides of my head - it feels like I'm being clamped sometimes!

I had this too, in my temples, with enlarged veins. It lasted a few weeks after the jab. i kept checking my blood pressure because I honestly thought I was at risk of having a stroke or aneurysm. I was in Group 6 risk category, and had the jab on 20 Feb, ironically because of past history of blood clot (in leg, but not in a deep vein). I felt terrible 6-12 hours after mine including a pulse of 130 for a couple of hours even though I was just lying there and had headaches for a few days after that. I also had a strange feeling in my legs for about 3 weeks after as if the blood was struggling to get through my veins (I do have varicose veins so circulatory issues anyway). ( I had the same leg thing a few weeks after I think I may have had a mild version of COVID in March last year, but at the time they didn't even know about clots and COVID so I didn't even think about there being a connection). THen the temple pressure and pain lasted for a few weeks post jab. It's gone now but I am very tired still.

I have not taken up the invitation for my second, which I received last week, I just don't believe it suits me. I have never had health anxiety and haven't had a day off work sick for over 4 years and even then that was a hormonal headache (poss related to the pill, which I came off soon after that). I just get on with sickness usually so while I;m pleased that that poster who didn't experience side effects found it ok themselves, I think it's a bit silly to expect that anyone else who had concerning side effects is just a malingerer or anxious bag of nerves.

BunsyGirl · 12/05/2021 19:50

Day 26 and my headache is worse than ever. The medication that the hospital gave me yesterday had no effect. Feeling despondent today.

Sootybear · 12/05/2021 19:58

I felt really bad for at least 4 days after. Everything hurt, feeling sick, so tired. It did lift but I wasn't right for quite a while after then. Someone I know was off work for three weeks after the vaccine. I don't know the details but it's not unheard of to feel ill for longer than a day or two. Dreading my second one, but the nurse said, remember you are not actually I'll with covid, which I will be telling myself if a feel ill again. Strangely I didn't have a headache which is one thing I am very prone to.

Sadsiblingatsea · 12/05/2021 20:07

No way will I have the vaccine.
I am hearing so many side effects that are far worse than a healthy person contracting Covid would experience.

landofgiants · 12/05/2021 21:01

@BunsyGirl - sorry to hear you're still unwell - hope you feel better soon.

I get migraines sometimes so I had wondered if that was a factor, but the headache I have had feels different from a typical migraine. I'm on day 20 now and have been feeling optimistic as I had a couple of days with no headache/nausea (but still tired), however today I feel like I might be about to get a regular migraine (light sensitivity etc). I'm sure things will settle down for me (and others) eventually.

@Sadsiblingatsea - your choice, but I would hate my experience to put you off. Most people have mild or no side effects. I would much rather have a headache for a while than long-term respiratory side effects/damage which I already have from previous pneumonia.

@ronky30 - I'm no expert, but that sounds like migraine to me.

I'm undecided on the second dose, but will probably take some medical advice first. Also planning to wait until towards the end of the 12 week period (the dose interval tends to be less in Wales) to see if any new information becomes available.

eatsleepread · 12/05/2021 21:34

I had my AZ vaccine yesterday morning. I feel absolutely fine, other than a bit of tenderness to my arm. But that didn't last for long and it's fine now.
My slight disclaimer is that I had a particularly bad dose of Covid in January. So maybe the vaccination process is gentler on those of us who've had Covid?!

bristolone · 16/05/2021 16:33

Interesting thread. I am 13 days post jab and have been having very mild headaches since day 8. They don't seem to start until later in the day and don't stop me doing anything but it is worrying me. They sound similar to those above.

I am a headachy person and do suffer hormonal migraines.

I'm assuming a blood clot would be a bad severe headache? But will call my doctor tomorrow.

passmethemilk · 16/05/2021 18:18

@bristolone defiantly call your doctor.
To try reassure you in the meantime if you read a few days ago a couple of the posters went to the doctors at about three weeks with headaches and checked out by the hospital to say not blood clot related.
Hopefully everyone will update on how they are doing now.
I am day 19 and think the head pain twinges, fuzzy head, mild headache and neck aches have cleared up Smile!
Hoping I'm not tempting fate there!!

bristolone · 17/05/2021 10:06

Ended up at walk in then I was sent to A&E. They checked bloods for platelets and did an examination of my eyes etc, blood pressure. No evidence of any blood clots.

Woken up with nothing, but pressure starts in the head after I've been up a while and aches later. I wonder if it's triggered a sinus infection which I'm prone to. Will yellow card when it clears up.

AmongUs · 17/05/2021 20:28

Has anyone had an on off throbbing in either calf?
I've never had this type of pain before. I'm 8 days post AZ vaccine. I had throbbing in my left calf for last two days on and off all day but without tightness, redness or swelling. That seems to have gone and but now I feel same thing happening on and off in my right calf.
I'm hoping it's just general body ache and nothing to worry about but worry is at the back of my mind. I have no other symptoms.

CosmoMint · 19/05/2021 09:19

Hi, just to update. I am still getting mild head pains randomly every day. Have always had aches and pains in other parts of my body which I put down to perimenopause, so maybe this is just a new ache in my head! Now a month on from the jab. Now I am wondering if the AZ has bought on a new perimenopause symptom for me. Anything is possible. Not that I have been confirmed in peri, but highly suspect and a fat lot of good asking the doctor about peri symptoms, as have asked in the past about other symptoms and not helpful at all. Well, I will see how things go....

Neotraditional · 19/05/2021 13:49

@Pastanred

The only people I know who were ill after AZ are the type who stay off 3 weeks with a cold and even so they were only ill 2 days

I wander whether Mumsnet gives heightened anxiety in this case

No way are you all ill due to vaccine

I was thinking this! I have had no symptoms at all, to the point where I wondered if I’d been given a placebo Grin

Like you, the people I know who ‘suffered’ are the usual suspects who make a big deal out of every trivial ache/pain/cold.

ajmouse · 19/05/2021 14:16

I had the chills 10 hours after the jab. Physically couldn't stop shivering, as if it was -5c. I intended to have a boozy night (Friday) but couldn't muster another sip after a couple of bottles once the chills and exhaustion set in so went to bed.

Woke up feeling fine.

I'd describe it as unpleasant and "spoiled" a Friday night I was already expecting to be spoiled. But I have felt worse for longer with a bad cold / "man flu". Nothing more than that other than a tender arm near the injection site for a week or so.

ajmouse · 19/05/2021 14:18

Fake edit: after a couple of bottles

By which I mean "of beer"

It just dawned on me that this being "mums"net there might be this assumption that I mean a couple of bottles of wine which would be a good night indeed Grin

RUOKHon · 20/05/2021 17:49

I’m two weeks after my jab and am still feeling like crap. All the acute symptoms have disappeared (nausea, diarrhoea, aches, temperature, etc) and now I have just been left with crippling fatigue. I struggle to get through each day without having to have a nap in the afternoon, my appetite is non-existent and I generally feel like I’m about 90 years old. I haven’t been able to exercise since I had it, I just don’t have the energy. I took my four year old DC out for the day the other day and it wiped me out. Had to spend the following day in bed.

Please someone tell me I won’t always feel like this! I am very pro-vaccination usually but I do really regret having the vaccine if I’m honest. It’s made me feel so terrible and has written off the past fortnight for me, I sort of wish I’d never bothered.

Are you certain it's due to the vaccine?
RUOKHon · 20/05/2021 17:55

I guess I’m just assuming it is because I was totally fine before I had it and as soon as I had it I started feeling awful?

Novamation · 20/05/2021 19:06

Just had my second AZ yesterday, and the only symptom so far is hives all over my arms this morning. The first jab gave me a headache for a week.

WarriorN · 21/05/2021 06:38

I think it's taken me just over 3 weeks to feel normal again. I wasn't as bad as some of my colleagues during the days after, no fever just aches and zoned out, but headaches started after 4 days and lingered for a week.

A colleague said she felt like she had a couple of repeat symptoms after about 3-4 weeks and both myself and another colleague have been very tired. I am wondering if the aches I had at the weekend were a repeat flare.

I remember last year a few women I knew who were mid to late 40's and caught CV kept getting flare ups for weeks afterwards when they thought they were recovering so I've wondered if it's just the vaccine going through its paces.

Very glad I had it. My main worry for myself was long Covid.

danni0509 · 21/05/2021 07:36

@BunsyGirl

Well my GP sent me to the hospital today due to my headache continuing for over three weeks post vaccination. No clotting issues thank goodness but they think that the vaccine triggered a migraine - I haven’t had one since I was a teenager about 30 years ago!
Thanks for this! I haven’t had a migraine for 3 years then I got an ocular one yesterday couple of days after second AZ dose.

My heads ok now, just hurts to cough but feel really tired and shitty x

Holly30d · 21/05/2021 11:07

Hi, I am interested to hear others AZ experiences. I had my second dose nearly two weeks ago. I felt ill the next day and then ok ish, on about the 5th day I felt awful with nausea, diareah, horrible headache and visual disturbance and extreme fatigue. I am also suffering from anxiety and depression. I rang the doc and he thought it wouldn't be the vaccine, but a bug of some sort separate from Covid. I feel really grotty indeed. Has anyone had a similar experience or heard of a nasty tummy bug going round ? Would be very grateful to hear.
