AstraZeneca side effects

KarenMarlow3 · 19/02/2021 12:47

Has anyone had side effects after more than 10 days? I'm feeling tired, and slightly nauseous, I had the AstraZeneca on 10th February.
Is it me being a hypochondriac, or is there something else going on? I can't get a doctor's appointment, there aren't any, up to and including 19th March.

How's everyone getting on?

I'm still out of sorts and it is 2 weeks now. Was fluey initially - so ill I couldn't do anything - but that passed after a few days. Now it is mainly fatigue with mild nausea and some brain fog, sometimes a mild headache. Pretty fed up but I'm guessing it will go eventually. Just wondering how long it took for you guys?

roomfulloflove · 06/05/2021 14:46

I'm experiencing many of the same symptoms you all list above. I didn't realise we were supposed to report them on the yellow card scheme though? I've never heard of that before.

I had AZ vaccine and I firmly believe the dose is too big.

Do you remember in the clinical trials they accidentally gave half a dose to one group and that actually provided higher immunity than the full dose.

I am fine after flu vaccines, I really feel I've just been given far too much of something into my system.

Totally dreading the second dose now Confused

Glad I found this thread.
I'm on day 9 and still not feeling back to normal.
I'm normally fit and healthy.
I was having pains in my head come and go throughout the day but not enough to rush to doctors.
Assume if it was blood clot it would be there constantly?
Seems to be improving daily and not had the pains today just head feels bit groggy.
@roomfulloflove what are your symptoms?
How is everyone else feeling now?

Health2021 · 06/05/2021 22:34

Hey folks, just so you know if you get a blood test you can ask for something called D-Dimer and the platelets counts, both these can help your doctor in determining if there was a clot or if your levels of platelets are normal ask your Doctor about your blood test if you are experiencing symptoms that are severe and persistent. For those having breathing problems or severe pounding headaches please don't wait , see your doctor and ask them to do checks on you: blood test, Ct Scan, Ultrasound. Please don't ignore breathing issues and severe and persistent headaches. I hope they come up with a vaccine that helps us all.

Chosennone · 07/05/2021 07:25

19 days since mine and the fuzzy head/mild headaches seems to have subsided. They were pretty much the only symptom and I am a headachey person anyway. I'd say 2 weeks of mild headaches occasional nausea.

CosmoMint · 07/05/2021 09:32

@passmethemilk
Oh wow I am comforted to know i am not the only one as your symptoms are exactly what I have. I am on day 16 now. From having vaccine I had a headache constantly for nearly four days. But since then I have had head twinges randomly throughout the day. Each time it happens it’s less than a minute, or just a few seconds. It’s just worrying. I really hope it goes away. My doctor wasn’t concerned at all when I called after a week after the vaccine.
@Chosennone-I hope my headaches go away like yours. You give me hope!

SingleHandSue · 07/05/2021 12:44

I had my first vaccine yesterday. I woke up with a start at 2:45am, heart pounding and a weird uncontrollable stretching that actually hurt.

Today I feel like I have a hangover, very slow and achey and a slight headache. My left thigh really hurts too bizarrely.

passmethemilk · 08/05/2021 17:41

Day 10 and I'm still not feeling back to normal.
@CosmoMint how you feeling today?
@Chosennone interesting you had the same. Good to know you felt better eventually. Will you be confident to have the second dose?
@SingleHandSue hope your side effects don't last long.

passmethemilk · 08/05/2021 17:42

@roomfulloflove how are you feeling now?

passmethemilk · 08/05/2021 17:43

How about everyone else who has commented on this thread?
Please check in. It's would be great to hear from you all.

Kitcat122 · 08/05/2021 19:20

I'm on day 14 and my low grade intermittent daily headache has subsided (thank god). But my head still feels fuzzy and bruised. I feel very tired this week but that could be life in general 😂

MiaRoma · 08/05/2021 19:43

63 days. Still in pain (head/face/neck). I won't be having the 2nd AZ on GPs advice.

passmethemilk · 08/05/2021 20:10

@MiaRoma that's awful. Does gp think it's the vaccine? Have you had any tests done? Any explanation?

MiaRoma · 08/05/2021 20:38

Lots of tests and more lined up. No firm explanation but the GP is of the belief that the issues are caused by the AZ hence him suggesting I don't have the 2nd vaccine. He said there are other patients in the same boat although with different side effects.

CosmoMint · 08/05/2021 20:38

@passmethemilk. I’m still not quite better, thanks for asking. At some points during the day I think ah I feel more normal, but then I get a very short head twinge and makes me realise it’s not quite gone. @Kitcat122 gives a good description of how I am feeling-my head feels fuzzy and bruised at times. It’s hard to describe-just doesn’t feel how it should be when normal.

SingleHandSue · 09/05/2021 00:00

I felt rough until 9pm last night when I suddenly felt completely normal again.

I’ve been absolutely fine today except feeling hot occasionally and not much appetite.

Pastanred · 09/05/2021 00:49

With respect are you not all just anxious or over self aware given you are posting in a covid vaccine thread?

I’m 42 and had AZ and everyone I know was find

Those who were ill where the ones who I expected would be I’ll (as in everything’s a bigger deal to them)

Not meaning that to belittle just that some people notice every little thing, others are so busy working and not giving a shit that they don’t notice ?

Pastanred · 09/05/2021 00:51

The only people I know who were ill after AZ are the type who stay off 3 weeks with a cold and even so they were only ill 2 days

I wander whether Mumsnet gives heightened anxiety in this case

No way are you all ill due to vaccine

DownWhichOfLate · 09/05/2021 09:01

@Pastanred - you have a good point. I was anxious about the jab and was shaking afterwards. Once I realised it was probably adrenaline and had drunk a cup of tea I felt much better. Arm still hurt a lot though!

SingleHandSue · 09/05/2021 16:41

I was expecting to feel absolutely fine as I’m never ill.

I only posted on this thread after feeling ill and wondering if my symptoms were normal.

Speaking to others who’ve had the jab, most had a day of feeling ropey before feeling fine again the next day.

swapsicles · 09/05/2021 18:25

I had mine yesterday morning, was ok til the afternoon when I was a bit tired, went to bed early and woke up shivering severely my muscles were spasming, particularly my neck , very strange, anyway I took a couple of paracetamol and back to bed where I carried on shivering but not so bad.
I woke up a few times hot and achey and have generally felt meh all day, hoping I'll be better tomorrow as I did call in sick today, no way I could do a 10 hour shift!

MaxNormal · 09/05/2021 19:07

@Pastanred some people can have severe adverse reactions to medications that don't affect everyone badly. Of course those will be the people posting about it. It doesn't mean it's not real.

Health2021 · 09/05/2021 19:13

With respect Pastanred, go and tell the families of people that lost loved ones to blood clots that it was in their head, meaning anxiety-driven thoughts. To the rest of the ppl that post here, please never ignore your symptoms, many of the people that passed away if you read their loved one's articles you can see that people around them including hospital staff undermined their symptoms, the last women that I read about was told to go home by the hospital and take ibuprofen, so she did and a few days later she passed away from the clot. if you are ever going to be wrong about misreading or imagining symptoms, I suggest a vaccine that has killed a few people is the one to start with. Please do not place any value to the comments of ppl who contradict what specialists , medical professionals and the National Advisory Committee on Immunization ( NACI) are saying, if you have persistent headaches, stomach ache, breathing issues ect beyond 4 days from vaccination seek medical advice. The NACI has said the clots linked to AstraZeneca are rare, but real, and people have an individual choice if they would rather wait to take the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines. Please remember ppl keep saying the clots are rare, but some ppl are passing away because of them, so it is left up to you to decide what vaccine you want. Ignore ppl that say you are imagining your symptoms and listen to medical experts telling you to be alert about your symptoms past a certain period after AstraZeneca shot and to be proactive, we canadians have a Federal Advisory Committee the NACI, they are there to advise us and they said that the effects from AstraZeneca are real and are not seen with the other vaccines and if you want to wait depending on your area . For those who have taken the shot, please always watch for your symptoms between 4-28 days , apparently this is the cycle period that if anything is going to happen, this is the period to be attentive in. I would never tell anyone that you are imagining your symptoms, research has proven that women are more prone to the side effects with AstraZeneca than men, good luck to all of us as Covid does not discriminate. I only wish we could demand from our government to find scientists in Canada that can develop a safe vaccine , not one that has a rare risk of killing you and it has killed people, that is crazy, demand better from our scientists.
PS. Pastanred, I am very happy for you that you are just fine and have not experienced any more side effects, sincerely very happy for you. I respect that you have the right to express your thoughts, I just want everyone to know who are experiencing or imagining their symptoms that I hope you get better soon, as we are at a time in this world that Covid has made us so paranoid and anxieties are at their peak, but again ask the experts about anxieties, they are very real to people, I will support everyone who says they have symptoms and I pray to all of you and to our great Country, just please do not ignore or undermine your symptoms. Make wise and informed choices and do not let anyone tell you what is best for you and your families. I know two people whose symptoms have lasted 3 weeks, and it was not in their head as verified by medical experts.

I pray for everyone's safety,

.

BunsyGirl · 09/05/2021 19:24

22 days later and I’m still getting headaches and feel exhausted all the time. @Pastanred I wasn’t anxious about getting the jab. In fact, if you look at my previous posts on other threads you will see that I was eager to get it. Lots of parents at my DC’s school have been vaccinated in recent weeks and many have been ill...apart from the one that got Moderna.

Foosterin · 09/05/2021 20:14

I feel very relieved to find this thread. I am 12 days post-vaccine and still having daily, mild headaches and feeling very tired. I will worry less knowing other people have had the symptoms lasting this long; the symptoms are not too troubling in themselves, but I was concerned at how long they've lasted.
