AstraZeneca side effects

KarenMarlow3 · 19/02/2021 12:47

Has anyone had side effects after more than 10 days? I'm feeling tired, and slightly nauseous, I had the AstraZeneca on 10th February.
Is it me being a hypochondriac, or is there something else going on? I can't get a doctor's appointment, there aren't any, up to and including 19th March.

I'm on day 12 (I got count mixed up on one of my posts below) and my head still isn't 100%.
My symptoms aren't health anxiety.
I know what that feels like and it isn't this.
My head pain twinges have mostly disappeared but head still feels slightly fuzzy.
I do feel like I'm getting slightly better each day.
I volunteered for the vaccine as soon as I could last year and was disappointed I wasn't chosen.
I booked my vaccine the same day my age group was released. I booked it for the next day and travelled far to get it. I'm not the type of person Pastenred is talking about. I wouldn't even know the last time I had a day off sick.
The first post I put on here was day 9 after thinking after effects are lasting ages I wonder if anyone else feels like this.
This thread had reassured me - not made my symptoms worse.
Please continue to post here if you feel you have long terms symptoms.
We can all help each other and keep each other company.

@Pastanred - My work colleagues predicted that I would have side effects, so I think there might be something in what you are saying. I disagree with your post in general though: - I've had the odd sick day in the last year or two (one due to the vaccine side-effects) but prior to that I have never had a day off work sick in my life.

Beforehand, I was very pro-vaccination as it seems like the only way for us to get out of this mess. I was far more worried about catching Covid than I was about the very rare clot risk. Like @BunsyGirl I was very keen to get it. Before I got vaccinated, I knew lots of people who had had no side effects, and nobody who reported feeling bad for more than 2 weeks. I usually get the flu vaccine and have never reacted to that.

With symptoms like tiredness and brain-fog, it is difficult to be 100% certain about the cause. The vaccine itself will no longer be in my system - however I'm fairly convinced it has triggered my fatigue.

I had the vaccine first dose AZ on 30th April and still don't feel right. I do have allergies, asthma and ME which may well be part of it. Had the vaccine and didn't feel it at all then husband notice my skin had peeled off around the vaccine and on my hand that I touched it with - was only the top layer of skin and settled quickly. Felt OK immediately after and went swimming then suddenly felt a bit tired and a bit dizzy but that may well have just been stress. Then after 24 hours both arms were red, itching, I was sweating a lot then 10 minutes later shivering a lot, headache, aches and pains, very tired, like a bad flu day which lasted maybe 12 hours. Since then I have improved but still have red arms with a few blood spots, itchy everywhere, sweating esp at night, stabbing type pains all over.

Husband who is never ill was very flu like for 12 hours then felt OK. Everyone I heard of who had covid was symptomless but that doesn't mean everyone else was just faking it. Husband has just had second and only been tired and a headache this time.

Hope all who are feeling ill feel better soon.

BunsyGirl, its all over the news about the vaccine and its side effects , honestly we do not need to talk about what is factual, what I find very helpful here , is that we are getting first hand information about the side effects and how long they last with different ppl. If your headches progressively get worse and advil or tylenol does not help seek medical attention. Bloodwork and CT scan, that will tell you all you may need to know, but blood work would be a good start , as Doctors look for platelets and something called D-dimer , their levels will give an indication of blood clots and if there is any concern. Both these things have to do with blood clotting.4- 28 days seems to be the magic number for the vaccine as far as the danger zone from what I read, but I would ask your doctor. Everone experiences things differently, thats why we cannot comment about others, we are not medical professionals.

Hope you get better.

Reading posts and feeling reassured that the side effects generally last a day or so.

Currently up and unable to sleep. Scrolling through Mumsnet to pass the time. AZ this afternoon and fever, chills, body ache. Shooting pains, headache, blocked nose and racing heart since 9pm. Just got to ride this out and I remind myself that I'm very grateful to have the vaccine although initially I was very nervous about it hearing all the clot info.

Guess I'm just one of those people to suffer side effects as not everyone does it seems. Had to build myself up to having vaccine and was feeling extremely nervous and dare I say, wimpy, almost crying in needle fear waiting for my turn to be jabbed.

My brain made a decision to get the jab, my body had to go along with that. That's what we gotta do sometimes in life!

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 10/05/2021 03:01

FWIW I’ve had nausea and dizziness for about a week, along with headache, sneezing and that horrible sensitive skin you get with flu where every touch hurts.

However, I haven’t had the vaccine or covid (done 2 lateral flow tests this week) so I think there’s another virus going around that’s causing those symptoms - it may be that some unlucky sods are getting it at the same time as vaccine side effects?

Dontknowowt · 10/05/2021 03:15

I had mine Friday morning (AZ). Was fine until evening sort of time then started to feel rough. Really bad headache and very tired, flu-like achey. Took myself off to bed.
Still felt crap all day Sat.
Felt better by Sunday but arm still sore.
And this insomnia is normal for me sadly btw (had it for seven years!) so I can't blame that on the jab.

1000umbrellas · 10/05/2021 08:55

@AmongUs I'm having shooting pains too. I had mine yesterday afternoon, felt fine until about midnight when I got chills. Woke DH up with my teeth chattering! This morning feeling feverish and headachey, and just generally like I've been run over by a bus. Never had a reaction to a vaccine before (I get flu jab every year) and hoping this will be a 24 hour thing.

AmongUs · 10/05/2021 11:18

@1000umbrellas hope you feel better soon! I'm still getting the odd shooting pain, body is aching and feel headachy but at least the fever has gone.
Same with me, feel like I've been run over. Arms and legs feel heavy and I have no energy.
I've never had a reaction to any other vaccine like this before including various holiday jabs.

MiaRoma · 10/05/2021 17:53

@Pastanred

The only people I know who were ill after AZ are the type who stay off 3 weeks with a cold and even so they were only ill 2 days

I wander whether Mumsnet gives heightened anxiety in this case

No way are you all ill due to vaccine

Its great to hear that its all down to heightened anxiety. I'll be sure to tell my GP that you know more than he does. My last sick day was in 2014 btw.

Kitcat122 · 10/05/2021 19:04

I had flu like symptoms for approximately 12 hours, felt tired the next day but went to work. Then had a low grade headache and fuzzy head for about 10 days. (I never get headaches) It's all cleared now. I am very happy to have the vaccine and do not have health anxiety.

Dontknowowt · 10/05/2021 22:55

I had my first AZ Friday and I've been really unwell on it.
I'd say I have a high pain/tolerance threshold (according to both my dentist and a midwife!) and can't honestly remember the last day I was off work sick.
Still feeling crap but improving.
Not sure I'll be taking the second one if AZ is only one offered. I'm just 40.

Cherry889 · 11/05/2021 10:40

I had az yesterday afternoon. By the evening I felt tired. When I got into bed I had goosebumps and felt really cold but then in the middle of the night I was burning up.

This morning I have had diarrhoea, fainted, sweating and buzzing in the ears along with a really bad headache.

TENDTOprocrastinate · 11/05/2021 14:35

I had AZ on Sunday at 10am. I felt tired that evening. Very sore arm. Woke in the night soaked through from a cold sweat, had to get changed. Monday I was exhausted/run down and didn’t make it into work (I’m never off work). Today I got to work and then had an episode of diarrhea, bad abdominal pain and felt fuzzy headed/tired so I came back home. Then dozed in bed from 11am-1pm today. I’m feeling a bit better now 🤞

BunsyGirl · 11/05/2021 14:44

Well my GP sent me to the hospital today due to my headache continuing for over three weeks post vaccination. No clotting issues thank goodness but they think that the vaccine triggered a migraine - I haven’t had one since I was a teenager about 30 years ago!

ValenciaOrange · 11/05/2021 15:05

@Bunsygirl
I had my AZ six weeks ago. Also got sent to hospital at the 3 week point because of a continuous headache. My blood was fine no clotting issues. Also told the vaccine seemed to have caused a migraine. Like you I haven't had a migraine for 9 years.
The headache is less now and some days seems to almost go but I still aren't headache free.
I do think for some of us the vaccine seems to have triggered a headache cycle.

BunsyGirl · 11/05/2021 15:32

@ValenciaOrange sorry that you are suffering too. I have a friend who has had fibromyalgia flare up following the AZ vaccine. It does seem to be causing a problem for some people. I’m on the fence re the second dose but I know that I definitely won’t be having any booster if it’s AZ. It clearly does not agree with me!

ValenciaOrange · 11/05/2021 15:43

@bunsyGirl
Yes I know what you mean about the second dose. I am going to have it and I'm trying to be pragmatic about it and think the protection it will give me is a long-term thing whereas this headache is ( hopefully ) short term. When I had my first I was delighted to get it. I booked the minute it was open to my age group. But I don't feel like that about my second. If they announce the results of the mixed vaccine trials and you no long get the same vaccine for your second I'll be very happy to have something else !
Really hope you start to feel better soon.

passmethemilk · 11/05/2021 16:34

Good to hear your updates. I'm two weeks in now and thought my pain twinges and fuzzy head we're clearing but they have come back today mildly. My neck and shoulders and a bit achy today too which is new.
It's reassuring to hear you have both been to the hospital and no clotting issues.
I do keep thinking if it gets worse I'll go docs but as it's always mild I don't want to over react.

BunsyGirl · 11/05/2021 19:03

@passmethemilk If it doesn’t improve, or gets worse, call your GP and they can make the decision. I was worried that the hospital would think I was a time waster but they were really lovely. I just kept telling them that my GP sent me!!

@ValenciaOrange I would gladly try an alternative for the second dose!! Hope you feel better soon too.

1000umbrellas · 11/05/2021 21:41

@AmongUs how are you doing today? I'm still a bit groggy but much better today. Basically slept all day yesterday!

Are people on here reporting side effects to yellow card? I was going to but then thought I should wait until I'm sure they're all finished. Those of you who have had them for weeks do you report more than once?

landofgiants · 11/05/2021 22:09

@1000umbrellas you can report using the yellow card system and add an update later - they give you a reference number which you can use for this.

passmethemilk · 12/05/2021 16:59

How everyone doing today?
My headache got worse yesterday but better today.
My head just hurts a bit when I touch it. Feel like it's threatening to have a headache but I haven't got one. Not a great explanation I know!
Think I'm on day 15 so crossing fingers I will be back to normal any day.

RUOKHon · 12/05/2021 17:12

Glad to have found this thread. I’m on day five since my vaccine and I have had flu-like shakes and aching, bad nausea and feeling like I’m going to faint and then yesterday, terrible diarrhoea. Really want to be done with these symptoms! I was very pro vaccine but am starting to wish I’d never had the bloody thing.

ronky30 · 12/05/2021 17:13

I'm on day 5 and experiencing strange headaches. I've got pain behind my eyes and feel sensitive to light - it seems to be worse when I'm working at my computer. I'm also experiencing strange pressure at the sides of my head - it feels like I'm being clamped sometimes! I've also had a couple of dizzy turns.

It's reassuring (I think) to read that other people are still experiencing side effects. Hope everyone feels better soon.
