How many people do you actually know had COVID?

Out of curiosity, how many people do you actually know had COVID or sadly died with it?

So in our company of about 1000 employees, 40 people (including their immediate family) have had COVID and recovered.

Fiona2020 · 14/02/2021 00:07

I literally kept asking this question and it was minimal (as far as I knew!) until I got it! I put on Facebook about losing my taste and about 15of my friends said “yeah it’s naff isn’t it”! I didn’t know they had had it?! I don’t know why but people seem to be ashamed of it?! It’s not the fricken clap! Actually the claps probably less painful!

What would be the point in lying about it? The statistics on cases and deaths show that many people won't know anyone who's had it. The numbers aren't enough for everyone to know someone who's had it, let alone died of it.

DarcyJack · 14/02/2021 00:11

Personally at least 20 friends neighbours family and ourselves. But nhs staff so on top of this literally scores of people at work have had it. Three deaths and three others ventilated who have now recovered.

HeddaGarbled · 14/02/2021 00:11

Genuinely no one. I said this on a previous thread asking the same question and was accused of being a COVID denier. I’m not. I know I’m lucky but I genuinely do not know a single person who's had it.

FidgetArse · 14/02/2021 00:12

@ifitpleasesandsparkles

I know 4 people who have died of it.

And i would say atleast 25 people who have had it

friendlycat · 14/02/2021 00:17

Personally I know of about 15 people. All have recovered but one 30 year old was hospitalised twice and is now on steroids having no underlying conditions.
The 90 year old next door neighbour caught it in hospital and recovered.

Uh-huh...

I think you've misunderstood my post.

It's a weird place we're in now that simply not knowing anyone who's had the virus or died from it makes you a liar or covid denier.

The numbers of cases and deaths mean that there will be many people who don't know anyone who's caught it, let alone died from it.

That's simply a fact based on the numbers.

Porcupineintherough · 14/02/2021 00:22

It must be weird though. Your perspective of the pandemic must be totally different if you dont even know anyone who's been affected. Rates where I live have been high for so long.

Ploughingthrough · 14/02/2021 00:22

3 who have all recovered. 1 needed hospitalisation and oxygen treatment, 1 still has a problem with sense of smell many months later. Thankfully I do not know anyone who has died from it.

Yes, though I care for an elderly relative so have been ultra-cautious anyway. But I do feel that I’ve been very lucky.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 14/02/2021 00:54

9 , 3 hospitalised, 1 ICU , none with underlying health conditions. Only one over 50.

Firebird83 · 14/02/2021 00:54

I personally only know 4 people who have had it. I live in an area of the SW which has had a low number of cases throughout.

LemonadeFromLemons · 14/02/2021 00:55

Of family and friends (not counting friends of friends)
40% of them have had it:

  • one under 30 hospitalised and now has long covid
  • one under 40, like bad flu and now long covid
  • one died (extremely clinically vulnerable)

All caught from close proximity to people who had symptomatic covid or from being in hospital.

NoseinBook3 · 14/02/2021 02:09

11 people. All mild

NoseinBook3 · 14/02/2021 02:11

Nope. Need to engage brain. Not 11. I know 18. All mild except one who has long Covid

Northernsoulgirl45 · 14/02/2021 02:13

4 friends all in good health and under 50. One hospitalised and one suffering with Long COVID.
2 relatives in 30s who thankfully had it mild.
A few of dds school friends plus some friends kids and loads of acquaintances and their families. One death.

Changechangychange · 14/02/2021 02:15

The only people I know who haven’t had it are DM (fastidious about SD, has only seen DBro, me and DS), and DSIL/DBIL (she’s been pregnant and unwell, so neither have left house or seen anyone since last March, aside from when she gave birth).

Everyone at work, all my friends, everyone else I know caught it during first wave. Lots of HCPs though, and very little PPE available in the first wave. Most of us caught it before testing was rolled out - it ripped through my whole dialysis unit and had killed 10% of my patients by early April.
