How many people do you actually know had COVID?

Out of curiosity, how many people do you actually know had COVID or sadly died with it?

So in our company of about 1000 employees, 40 people (including their immediate family) have had COVID and recovered.

OP posts:

None.

Aebj · 14/02/2021 02:27

One cousin , her husband and their daughter. All recovered
My cousin’s daughter recovered
That’s it.

StopTouchingYourFairyGarden · 14/02/2021 07:31

It must be weird though. Your perspective of the pandemic must be totally different if you dont even know anyone who's been affected. Rates where I live have been high for so long

Yep - I don't personally know anyone and to be honest it has felt quite remote at times. I've struggled with lockdown (obviously everyone has!) in part because it doesn't feel that real.

I have involvement in some covid stuff through work, and I am a keen follower of some of the programming about statistical analysis (More or Less for example) but in general, I have felt slightly distant from it all.

Not a covid denier and have not broken any of the rules at all before anyone asks.

CrunchyCarrot · 14/02/2021 07:37

Don't know anyone who's had it, but then I do live a very isolated life in a quiet area. But yeah, it feels a pretty remote thing even though I know it's horribly real for so many people.

Useruseruserusee · 14/02/2021 07:39

12 people at my workplace (primary school). 1 sadly passed away.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/02/2021 07:39

Off the top of my head I can straightaway think of 12 people, two of whom died.

Springersrock · 14/02/2021 07:47

None until January when 4 people I know have had it

My friend is a TA and caught it in her school and her husband caught it - both had very mild symptoms and have recovered fine. Their children didn’t catch it

My colleague’s wife had a heart attack just after Christmas and caught it in hospital. She had minimal symptoms and has recovered fine, however my colleague sadly died last weekend

vampirethriller · 14/02/2021 07:49

17, none hospitalized though and all over it except one with long covid.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 14/02/2021 07:53

About 30 who have had it.

More than 7 people who have lost relatives to it, one of whom lost two

And an ex-colleague in her 50s or early 60s died of it.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 14/02/2021 07:55

Oh, yes and an acquaintance with Long Covid. Can’t walk, 8 months on.

silverstrawberry · 14/02/2021 08:05

Two sisters who died in their 60's
My closest two friends had it and recovered one with underlying health conditions.
My sons friend had it and recovered as did his parents.

Avaganda · 14/02/2021 08:06

4 family members in their 80s and 90s who caught it in hospital and unfortunately died. Nobody else though.

Covidcorvid · 14/02/2021 08:09

Genuinely more than I can count.

Probably about 50plus colleagues, one sadly died.
A handful of friends. One family friend died, he was in his 50s.
Numerous parents of friends.
Quite a few fb friends, parents of DD’s friends, etc.

yearinyearout · 14/02/2021 08:10

I couldn't even count them now tbh. I know lots of entire households in our town who've had it, they've all recovered. I know one woman in her 40s who's been on a ventilator recently and is now recovering, and two people I know well in their 70's have recently died (both had underlying conditions)

Muskox · 14/02/2021 08:12

I know approx 30 people who have tested positive. Two were hospitalised. No deaths.

BonesJones · 14/02/2021 08:13

Circa 50odd, maybe more, including me!

lavenderlou · 14/02/2021 08:15

I'm a primary teacher. Of our 20 teachers and LSA's, 5 have had it (all tested with symptoms). There were also 6 pupils that I know of who tested positive, and several parents. I also know of 5 local friends plus their families who had it. DH is a secondary teacher and at least 30 of his colleagues tested positive.

fantasmasgoria1 · 14/02/2021 08:15
  1. Friend in another city in 40s, daughter and partner of a family member mid 20s. All recovered.
Figgygal · 14/02/2021 08:17

One through work in other side of country
No friends or family

peak2021 · 14/02/2021 08:20

Five people, one of whom died last April. One of the other four works in a nursing home.

torquewench · 14/02/2021 08:43
  1. Two friends (a couple) late 40s, both of them obese, one of whom has heart issues and asthma, both said it was like a very heavy cold. Now both ok and back at work. The other is a 40 yo petite slim colleague with no apparent health issues, but who smokes heavily and said it was like a heavy cold. Now back at work.

Not someone I know, but one of my dad's friends went into hospital a few weeks back for something relating to his cancer treatment. He got covid in there and died. He was 78 but had been ill for a while, with a terminal diagnosis.

Tamtam86 · 14/02/2021 08:54

4 people in total

  • neighbour in her 50s and 2 teenage DC had it and felt ill for a week at home then recovered (the husband in the same household didn't catch it)
  • friend in her mid 30s, same as above, and her DH and DC didn't catch it just her
elastictastic · 14/02/2021 08:56

One last summer.

Two in January.

KitKat1985 · 14/02/2021 09:00

Maybe about 50? I work in healthcare though and I've had a lot of colleagues pick up covid from work (I'm not including patients I know in that figure, which would push that number much higher, just colleagues). Also had quite a few extended family members catch it.

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 14/02/2021 09:11

I put 10 but I'm thinking of more.
