How many people do you actually know had COVID?

Out of curiosity, how many people do you actually know had COVID or sadly died with it?

So in our company of about 1000 employees, 40 people (including their immediate family) have had COVID and recovered.

OP posts:

About 30?

Jeremyironseverything · 14/02/2021 09:20

Loads. Three that died including a 4O year old with no underlying conditions. I know 4 that are still suffering from long covid, one of whom is still really poorly and unable to work for the foreseeable, 6 months later.

CheeseAndBeans · 14/02/2021 09:22

About 30. Including myself, OH and kids at the start of the year. Kids were fine (4 and 7) but myself and OH felt terrible for about a week. Horrid flu like symptoms, coughs, no taste/smell. All fully recovered.
I know 3 people that went into hospital. 2 recovered and 1 sadly passed away just before Xmas.

Nerdygirl · 14/02/2021 09:22

I know 1 person directly and they died in the first wave. I know of a couple more but they all went into hospital for one thing and caught it there!! But other than that I haven’t seen or heard of much round here

Horehound · 14/02/2021 09:23

2 people who stayed at home and recovered. That's it

lucylouz · 14/02/2021 09:26

2 people and their families. My work colleague had it over Christmas and so did her family she is in her 60s but very healthy (her husband on the other hand has cancer of the blood) both were fine and said it was like a cold lost smell and taste.
And my best friend is just recovering from it started off just a mild cold but turned into flu like symptoms and was feeling really rough for a few days but feeling a lot better now. She also lost her smell and taste. Her whole house got it apart from her son who is nearly 3 who had no symptoms at all.

itsgettingwierd · 14/02/2021 09:27

I know about 15 people who have had it confirmed and a few (like me) at start who had it but tests weren't available.

3 sadly died.

2 elderly and 1 in their 50's

Hulahula86 · 14/02/2021 09:27

I’ve had it and so has my partner and our kids we were lucky to have a mild case. My 28 year old sister had it 2nd week of jan and is still getting over it. Most the kids I know at DDs nursery have had it and most their families as that’s where she caught it. 2 of my cousins have had it and lots of people at work I don’t know anyone who’s died of it thankfully.

Lovelydovey · 14/02/2021 09:30

Hundreds? In terms of neighbours, friends, family and colleagues.

It took my DF and has left my DM bouncing in and out of hospital, and likely to need care for many months. (In their sixties so not elderly).

Yesterday my 30 something year old neighbour was taken into hospital with it.

Ylvamoon · 14/02/2021 09:31

None.

Spidey66 · 14/02/2021 09:31

30-40.

A colleague who worked with my (retired) husband died, but no-one I know personally.

A local shopkeeper nearly died, was in ICU for months and has loads of complications as he had a stroke, heart attack, sepsis from it . If the story sounds familiar, hdd was featured in a BBC programme about the royal free hospital.

A colleague caught it, as did his partner, who was in ICU and has long coviud.

A couple of colleagues have been very unwell.

Everyone else has had normal recoveries.

CherryValanc · 14/02/2021 09:36

Going though friends and family I've got up to 27. Of these three have died and three are long term ill (one being my son's friend, 17).

If I venture i to work it there are more.

There does seem to be some attitude that it's something to keep secret - like it's embarrassing to admit. Least certainly at the start of it all.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 14/02/2021 09:41

Six

  1. My DF, 74, MS in care home - no symptoms only knew as he had a test because he needed to go to hospital for an unrelated reason
  2. Friend's mum, 69, COPD, in hospital having gallbladder surgery - again no symptoms only knew cos of testing BUT they sent her home before the result and she infected her husband...
  3. Her husband, 73, fit and luckily although I’ll for a few weeks recovered well
  4. Friends wife, 40s, fit, health worker- very, very ill for weeks but recovered.....
  5. Their DD, 19, very fit and well - extremely ill, was to be hospitalised just before she turned a corner - has long COVID
  6. DDs Music/band teacher - male, late 40’s no known underlying conditions - he passed away after only two weeks. His family can’t even bury him for eight weeks due to coroner and other service backlogs. We were utterly shocked.
tenlittlecygnets · 14/02/2021 10:05

Dd knows about 70 teens who have had it, from school and social media. All mild illnesses. Apart from that, about 30 people. A few hospitalisation, no deaths.

aLilNonnyMouse · 14/02/2021 10:22

4 total cases, resulting in 2 deaths. I have a very limited social circle though so that's out of about 30 people.

One of the survivors had it mildly, the other was very ill and is still struggling with the after effects 8 months on. Of the two deaths, one was late 70s, one was 50.

Coolerthanapolarbearstoenails · 14/02/2021 10:32

Personally one person, felt rough for a week.

Friends of friends and people in my workplace - maybe eight that I know about.

Three of them died. One was 38, the other in his 60s and the other in his 90s. All had serious underlying conditions. The 38 year old was very unwell to begin with.

NOTANUM · 14/02/2021 10:35

Dozens at least. No deaths but one elderly relative left much diminished by it.

middleager · 14/02/2021 10:41

About 50, including one of my teens, who caught it at school, along with 20% of the class.
One (59) died after contracting it in hospital after going in with a burst appendix.

One in her 50s, seriously ill in hospital with clots on lungs.

itbemay1 · 14/02/2021 11:02

8 people that I really know, one died. Lots of neighbours friends etc

GoldenPenPot · 14/02/2021 12:15

It is possible people have had but just not told anyone (or told hardly anyone). If I had it, I’d tell my immediate family and that would be it. I wouldn’t be broadcasting it. I work from home so unless I was unfit to work I wouldn’t even tell my employer.

ThatQuietOne · 14/02/2021 12:38

I have lost count now, lots of acquaintances and a handful of close friends.
I know 3 (elderly) people who have died and another family friend (not as elderly, late 60s) who was on a ventilator in hospital in the first wave but is OK now. One friend (in 40s) is still struggling with long Covid from a fairly mild infection in the first wave.

ThursdayLastWeek · 14/02/2021 12:40

None confirmed locally to me.
Couple of people who were ill before testing was widely available.

One or two from the rest of the country that I know via SM

mrsbitaly · 14/02/2021 12:42

Several at my husbands place of work, my auntie was in hospital on a ventilator thankfully recovered. My stepson also had it. For those who say it's not real are idiots. Its Russian roulette whether you become seriously ill from it or not. My friend also had it and has not got long covid. She's not herself at all.

gollymissdolly · 14/02/2021 12:50

I know 3 people who caught Covid 19 and died (2 of them had underlying health issues).I also know of 6 others who have had Covid and recovered.Someone else I know took a Covid test which came back positive even though they were asymptotic, the reason being one of their parents had tested positive and they were a carer for the parents.

SimonJT · 14/02/2021 12:54

Lots, quite a few friends and colleagues, a significant outbreak at my sons school in December, me, my partner and my son. A TA at my sons school sadly passed away due to covid.

I spent a short amount of time in hospital with it, I was definitely the most well person in the ward I was on. I’m still not right, struggling a great deal with breathlessness and fatigue, but my taste and smell are slowly coming back.
