WHO report: covid likely not from Wuhan

PicsInRed · 09/02/2021 16:40

Covid not from Wuhan, not there before December 2019 and may even have been imported into Wuhan/China in frozen food.

Definitely, 100% not from a lab but may have mutated bit by bit and crossed different animals and borders whilst doing so in order to reach the current covid we know and love.

So there ya go. Hmm

China have been selling the idea that it keeps being imported on frozen food packaging from some time. Pull the other one.

The most likely explanation is an accidental lab leak, covered up because it makes them look incompetent. They’ll never tell the truth, and the WHO has always taken care to flatter and fawn over the Chinese regime since this started, so that’s that.

Walkaround · 09/02/2021 18:40

I’m not usually one for conspiracy theories and I don’t think it came from a lab, but the apparent total whitewash of a WHO report (as reported so far) following months of China delaying letting anyone in and ensuring the trail goes cold lowers the WHO significantly in my estimation. It does come across as a pathetically weak puppet of powerful countries, more invested in global politics than global health, albeit the two are linked and there is a fine line to tread.

GotToRingAgain · 09/02/2021 18:40

Well they would say that wouldn’t they?

m0therofdragons · 09/02/2021 18:42

In a country struggling with over population it’s a convenient way to remove the weakest.

7Days · 09/02/2021 18:42

Is it possible that it was circulating in rural populations at a low level, between the miners and the Wuhan outbreak? I think I heard that there was evidence of some degree of immunity among populations local to those bat caves, I suppose regular low level exposure to bat guano in fields or in sheds or whatever. (Not sure where I heard it, sorry, it was last year)
And then mutated to be more contagious and got brought to an urban centre.
Woukd China have tissue samples saved from people who died of pneumonia type illnesses over the last few years?
Could they run serology (sp?) Tests on on locals or is it too late now after the pandemic?

I dont think I buy the packaging theory - weren't we all told we were lunatics for washing down our shopping, the surfaces weren't a major threat as the virus can only last so long. Probably longer than it would take to import foodstuffs.

The Wuhan lab is I think the only level4 biosecure lab of it's kind in China. It was working on bat coronaviruses. They did carry out gain of function experiments there. China is secretive and doesn't care much for human rights. Scientists draw different conclusions from the same data sets. The media likes clickbait. Govts like a calm populace. There are rings of influence and agenda pushing around the world that were not privy to but we know exist. The public arent in a position to independently assess genomic sequences. So don't smear people who think it doesnt add up. Theres a far cry from that to believing that Bill Gates wants to microchip us all and this is his fiendish way of doing it.

Lweji · 09/02/2021 18:42

@Lollyds
Congratulations!

Indeed, human-made is not the same as "cultivated". Some people will not know the nuance, I suppose.

@o8O8O8o
The difference between the RaTG13 virus and SARS-CoV-2 could potentially be explained by the gain of function research pushing the development of chimeric viruses.

Chimeric viruses are human-made.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimera_(virus)

The alternative would be recombinant viruses, which might be produced via co-culturing in cells, but more random and less efficient.

Wannabangbang · 09/02/2021 18:43

I don't buy it one little bit.

Jaxhog · 09/02/2021 18:44

Of course! Clearly, it came from an infected meteor that was beamed to Wuhan by a US Space Laser.

Staffy1 · 09/02/2021 18:45

The person who did the Hutton report must work for WHO now.

Octane · 09/02/2021 18:45

@CovidCraziness

Well if China was threatening to make me disappear and I wrote that report, that might also be my conclusion.

No one believes it for one second though ..

Even China wouldn't consider "disappearing" international scientists from a WHO team of investigators.
Chloemol · 09/02/2021 18:46

Yeh right, you believe that then

WHO are in China’s pocket. The bats that carry it come from China and bits are in the lab and being worked on

Don’t believe the report for a minute

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 09/02/2021 18:48

Yeah alright! Chinny rock on 😅

Lweji · 09/02/2021 18:48

Is it possible that it was circulating in rural populations at a low level, between the miners and the Wuhan outbreak?

Very possible. Or other contacts with bats.

My best guess is a farm or a smaller market, with all sorts of live animals on top of each other.

China doesn't like the association with this virus because it has long been a hot spot for recombinant antropozoonotic viruses due to crowded live markets and poor farm practices.
It is not a coincidence that the 2009 H1N1 came from a pig farm in Mexico either.
Even on this one, I'd be looking for the intermediate pig host, or a similar animal, but this would require extensive testing and tracking suppliers and travel to the Wuhan market, and possibly even further back.
The Wuhan market probably acted more as spreader than the origin, and that's what the WHO team is saying.

Exhausteddog · 09/02/2021 18:48

I thought (but could be completely wrong) that traces covid 19 was found in sewage samples in Europe before December 2019?
...Not that that proves or disproves anything, but if it escaped from the lab it had already got to Europe before 2020.

Lweji · 09/02/2021 18:49

@Jaxhog

Of course! Clearly, it came from an infected meteor that was beamed to Wuhan by a US Space Laser.
A Jewish space laser too. Or do those only cause fires?
Octane · 09/02/2021 18:49

WHO are in China’s pocket

What does that mean, exactly? Does anyone have any good examples for this whole thing about WHO bending entirely to China's will? The only other person I ever heard say that was Trump so I assumed it was just nonsense, but if so many people on here believe it, there must be some pretty damning evidence?

TaxTheRatFarms · 09/02/2021 18:49

Also this virus is intelligent its behaving in a way to suggest some man made intervention or modification

Yeah, no joke. Some say it’s even mastered punctuation. ShockWink

Lweji · 09/02/2021 18:50

I thought (but could be completely wrong) that traces covid 19 was found in sewage samples in Europe before December 2019?

Ah, I looked at that paper.
The method they used to detect the virus wasn't tested against other coronavirus, so it is highly likely that they detected coronaviruses in general, rather than covid.

rosetylersbiggun · 09/02/2021 18:52

Also this virus is intelligent its behaving in a way to suggest some man made intervention or modification

That simply isn't true, and not a single scientist alive believes that.

Viruses are not "intelligent."

And before anyone calls me a "sheeple" - it's pretty clear the Chinese government lied and tried their hardest to suppress and censor information in order to save face and protect themselves. I also believe it's not impossible (but unlikely) that the virus accidentally escaped from a lab. But the idea that it was manufactured is just completely pulled out of people's arses.

JFC so many people trotting out their PhDs from Facebook University here.

Lweji · 09/02/2021 18:53

WHO are in China’s pocket

To be fair, they will not want to antagonize China, so yes, they will be careful with what they say. I think if they suspected a human-made virus or even a leak that they would use careful terms, such as "we cannot totally rule out".

But, with Biden in power now, US funding is less uncertain.

From The Guardian

The WHO has had to balance China’s extreme sensitivity over the expert visit with the need to keep on good terms with the country, which is likely to the source of two cost effective vaccines that many expect to be used widely in the developing world.

The United States has called for a “transparent” WHO-led investigation and criticised its terms, which allowed Chinese scientists to do the first phase of preliminary research

goldfinchfan · 09/02/2021 18:55

I just hope that China doesn't create any more.

lljkk · 09/02/2021 18:55

In a country struggling with over population it’s a convenient way to remove the weakest.

Then why didn't they let it run fully riot? Was easily an option.

Are the SARS & MERS viruses also human-made -- how do you know they aren't?

Does WHO (supposedly) only flatter & fawn over the Chinese or do they dispense fawning to other officials or countries?

thisisnotus · 09/02/2021 18:55

@PicsInRed the article doesn't say what you think it says, and you've been misleading in your post which is based around your misinterpretation.

I also think you're very naive to trust the word of the Chinese government, or anyone under their influence.
