Thanks for that article @TheKeatingFive !

There's more stuff on @sailorrooscout on Twitter in the last hour about T cells and how they work, mentioning AZ and variants that's informative and positive!

Frazzled2207 · 11/02/2021 20:48

more good news about Pfizer

Yeah I think @sailorrooscout is responding to that Pfizer news!

Regarding schools, surely just a case if horses for courses iyswim?
I'm in school and teaching and can't wait to get back to normal. However, crucially, my SMT are amazing and very supportive , we wear masks all the time. No lack of soap and hand san, lovely janny marching around disinfecting surfaces on a loop. Small number of vulnerable and key worker kids (less than 15 to a bubble)
Out district numbers are low and dropping fast and they are rolling out the lateral flow tests tomorrow. On the other hand some of the stories I've heard about teaching conditions in other schools are horrendous, in those circumstances I would be dreading a return till numbers drop far lower. I think the school threads are so polorised that no sensible discussion have happened in a while.... Why I loiter with you lot Wink

@FourTeaFallOut

I wonder at what point Nadhim Zahawi will break out his I-told-you-so victory dance? 14m or 15m?

Pomegranatespompom · 11/02/2021 21:10

That’s so balanced @oscarandelliesdad

So difficult - no cases in our school and good mitigation in place, so absolutely understand people wanting to be back.

TheKeatingFive · 11/02/2021 21:14

What on earth is Noblegiraffe?

🤣🤣🤣

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 11/02/2021 21:19

Don't want to start a schools debate on here and bring in trouble. However yes I totally agree a lot can be said for a decent leadership team. Our secondary has run things brilliantly and the safety measures were great.

Different teachers will have different experiences and opinions. I am not a teacher but have worked in a few schools and can't wait to go back. If I was well enough I would go back the moment they opened up again. Actually feel guilty I wasn't working through all this. Miss the teenagers dreadfully. Even the horrible onesGrin

Frazzled2207 · 11/02/2021 23:00

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum-
first half pasted below from guardian

People who have received two doses of the Pfizer vaccine have been found to have strong T-cell responses against the Kent and South African variants of Covid, suggesting that the vaccine will continue to protect against serious disease in the coming months.

In the first study to test immune responses against the variants circulating in populations, researchers found that although antibody responses against the new variants were blunted, they may still be high enough to protect most people from becoming infected, after a second dose of vaccine has been given.

Although previous studies had suggested that antibodies from those vaccinated with the Pfizer/BioNTech jab could recognise and neutralise viruses carrying some of the individual mutations found in the South African and Kent variants – albeit at slightly lower levels compared with previous variants – these were tested on engineered viruses rather than ones isolated from real patients.

PuzzledObserver · 11/02/2021 23:11

Warwickshire - I’ve heard of a couple of 65+ people being invited. Then found a Facebook post from one of the practices in my group saying they are inviting people aged 67-69 now, then working down the age bands.

I just hope they don’t forget to invite group 6!

People vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine are four times less likely to spread the Coronavirus, even before they have received their second jab, according to a new study.

This thread is good if you need a giggle:

One liners and quick posts on MN that have made you laugh?

Monkeytennis97 · 12/02/2021 04:23

@tootyfruitypickle

I've not looked at that thread. I ventured an idea/opinion on a schools thread earlier this week, the teachers on MN are a little aggressive, I discovered .... Staying right here me!
I don't think we are tbh we just want schools to be safe for all instead of the smoke and mirrors bullshit everyone has been fed which has caused transmission to rocket to where we got in December.
