*Here's some good news on treatments: Inhaled steroid Budesonide reduced risk of patients needing hospital care by 90% when given in the first 7 days of symptoms.

I am bouncing off the walls at this news!
I'm asthmatic and use symbicort inhaler which contains budesonide! Yay!! Xx

tobee · 10/02/2021 18:08

Just been reading Jonathan van Tam's Q&A. Last question was whether he was going to appear on this year's Strictly! HmmGrin

⬆️ on a personal note for you @Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady

tobee · 10/02/2021 18:12

They've always said, since the start last year, multiple vaccines and a range of treatments and preventative measures will be needed to push back Covid.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 10/02/2021 18:14

Thanks tobee Smile

Makes up a bit for being removed from the vaccine list!

tootyfruitypickle · 10/02/2021 18:38

Is that the steroid in the brown preventer inhaler?

Stupid question klaxon, if I got covid, and used my daughters spare brown inhaler for the first week , would that be sensible?!

carolinesbaby · 10/02/2021 18:40

My county has turned pale blue on the gov.U.K. Map!!!!!!!!! Am so happy about that.

tootyfruitypickle · 10/02/2021 18:45

Ah nope that's not the same steroid

But that is excellent news generally and even better news for acute asthma sufferers. What an outcome from that trial!

Close - I think the brown one is beclametasone 😅

@tootyfruitypickle

I've just caught up with the world at one on my walk and there was a very reassuring scientist on there basically saying things really will be getting back to normal from the spring . Definitely recommend it , I feel much better, and then saw the flash about the WHO and Oxford!
Who was this tooty? X
Level75 · 10/02/2021 19:26

Case fatality rates have dropped by a third in over 80s but only 8% in under 80s. Vaccinations are working!

You beat me to it! But thanks for doing so Smile.

I take DuoResp, which is equivalent to Symbicort, for my asthma. As an asthmatic, I have been absolutely terrified of getting covid, so you can imagine my reaction at reading this. My inhaler could keep me out of hospital if I get covid. It’s just incredibly positive news.

Isn’t science wonderful?

TeaInTheGarden · 10/02/2021 23:54

Urgh did anyone watch itv, Robert Peston’s interview with the sage guy? Utterly depressing- avoid!!

I listened to world at one and that was better. I actually got emotional listening to Charles Walker ranting- it’s a relief to know at least one MP knows how stressed we all are and how much we need hope and something to look forward to!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 11/02/2021 00:07

If anyone wants a laugh the gorgeous Hancock thread or the WHO report (conspiracy ) thread are a bit of a giggle Grin

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 11/02/2021 01:35

Drive-through centres, which allow motorists to be vaccinated without leaving their cars, have been set up in St Albans, Hertfordshire, and at Queen Margaret University near Edinburgh, can do 720 jabs a day, 7 days a week Smile

Good news Part 9
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 11/02/2021 03:11

From the BBC news website

People previously admitted to hospital or needing "continuous or repeated" steroid use because of asthma are to be prioritised for the Covid vaccine.

The most severe cases will fall into priority-group four, the "clinically extremely vulnerable", who should have received a letter advising they shield.

And the government has now confirmed the remainder will be included in group six, the clinically "at risk", those usually eligible for a free flu jab.

You’ve just made my day, because this is me! (Asthmatic, regular use of steroid inhalers) 🙌🏻
Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 11/02/2021 07:46

Just seen this as well! What a relief!

So that's me in group 6 twice. Steroid inhaler and a big fatty. Try skipping me now GPS. I dare you GrinGrin
