This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4145954-6-3-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to observe our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain and one-legged trousers - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a truly tremendous 10,021,471 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 18.9% (or 1 in every 5.3) of all UK adults.

There’s no doubt about it - there is an unmistakable light at the end of this long, long tunnel and every day it’s getting brighter. Come on folks - let’s do this!! Grin

Indicative of how quickly the how rollout is going, my three brothers and one of my SIL's are having their vaccinations today, and over the weekend. Ages between 68 and 73, not CEV, and across the country.

CoffeeandCroissant · 05/02/2021 11:15

(Graph from New York Times is for the UK by the way). It shows when and how many might be vaccinated in the UK if the current pace continues and also compared those numbers with what they would be if the current pace slowed by 20% (due to lack of supply for example).

MrsEWeatherwax · 05/02/2021 12:02

I’m in the north east and both DP’s have had first. My DM has date of second, DF not yet which is weird as he had his first dose, first. I’m so relieved.
My DH went for his flu jab at the local pharmacy and was told the Medical centre next door are gearing up to start to vaccinate.
It’s such good news, I’m in group 9 as over 50 and can’t wait for mine.
The take up in my local area has been very high.

Chickenqueen · 05/02/2021 12:05

My mum and dad have been invited to get vaccinated this weekend and they are 59 and 57! Not clinically vulnerable either so they must be steaming through in their area (North London)

DdraigGoch · 05/02/2021 12:10

So are we going to see 500,000 doses today?

LetItGoGo · 05/02/2021 12:10

So young! That great news.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 05/02/2021 12:25

I’m hopeful. A cool 11 million would be a great way to end the week.
KittyMcKitty · 05/02/2021 12:59

I’ve just come home from a morning shift and we had 100% attendance this morning for the first time 😀 - busy busy busy!!

Fantastic! Hopefully tomorrow’s daily update (as well as today’s!) will be impressive!
Blessex · 05/02/2021 13:47

@KittyMcKitty wow!!! Amazing and thank you Daffodil

BigWoollyJumpers · 05/02/2021 14:09

I am willing to bet that at some point we could get to 5million a week Grin.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 05/02/2021 14:10

Lovely as always hearing about all these jabs.

North London and late 50s is music to my ears. Hubby may be done soon then. He has failed to bother losing his man belly despite weight putting him at a little more risk. As well as being a grumpy 50 something stereotype

Good to hear about vaccination centres running very well too

Now where is that 500k for today Grin

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 05/02/2021 14:12

We are getting more jab greedy each day😂😂😂😂

InterfectoremVulpes · 05/02/2021 14:13

388,426 1st jabs done in England yesterday so could be looking at 450k + for the UK 😁

PilatesPeach · 05/02/2021 14:19

I'm volunteering (non-medical) weekend & Mon/Tues - SE - hoping weather won't be an issue for vaccines as we are forecast snow for Sunday.

Frazzled2207 · 05/02/2021 14:21

Just read (daily fail - sorry) that we have now ordered 50 million of curevac. German I think, and as AFAIK several months away. This is interesting. I assume some of these new orders are intended as booster shots next winter and beyond. Can't believe the UK government is just buying them up 'just' to release to other countries later given that we've clearly got more than we need coming.

BigWoollyJumpers · 05/02/2021 14:25

But it't the insurance policy isn't it? We have no idea when these vaccines will be approved, how the manufacturing process will go, what issues or delays, or export bans, may be in place. So the more eggs we have, the less risk of not having anything in reserve. If we do end up with a massive surplus, we have committed to Covax, so all is good.

PilatesPeach · 05/02/2021 14:27

I thought they were buying them as future vaccines incase we need yearly shots. They have committed to purchase & pay for vaccines long before they were even proven effective that is why we got Pfizer & AZ so promptly.

48,663 in Scotland 32,891 in Wales
CoffeeandCroissant · 05/02/2021 14:30

20 jabs/jabs short of 470,000, so already well over 450k, with Northern Ireland still to be added on. 😀

Indeed that is true. But with moderna and novavax and AZ and Pfizer all definitely on their way and (about 200 million)- and another 200 million on top of that likely - I am surprised they are still shopping. No bad thing though definitely.

Is it too much to hope for 30k in NI 🤣
CoffeeandCroissant · 05/02/2021 14:49

Curevac is an mRNA vaccine, so easier to 'tweak' if/when a booster is needed against new variants.

So that's probably the logic behind it. It's also stable at fridge temperature (unlike the other mRNA vaccines) so if not needed for UK supply would be more suitable for Covax distribution.

From the FT: Curevac has said it can manufacture 300m doses of its vaccine this year, and at least 600m next year. It has signed a deal to deliver 400m doses to the EU, and has said it will no longer pursue authorisation of the shot in the US, citing market saturation.
CaveMum · 05/02/2021 14:50

Amazing numbers today. I think we’re settled into a regular pattern now of a drop off at the start of the week, steadily building up as (presumably) more vaccine is delivered. But each week is building on the previous, our lowest total so far this week would probably have been the highest daily total just a few weeks ago.
