This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4145954-6-3-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to observe our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain and one-legged trousers - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a truly tremendous 10,021,471 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 18.9% (or 1 in every 5.3) of all UK adults.

There’s no doubt about it - there is an unmistakable light at the end of this long, long tunnel and every day it’s getting brighter. Come on folks - let’s do this!! Grin

roughly 75% of potential future Covid deaths in the UK have now been prevented.

That’s stupendous. From the start of March, there are going to be very few Covid deaths.

Hopefully the continuing rollout of the vaccine will counteract the gradual opening up so that deaths continue to go down and there is no resurgence.

FWIW, I think the uptake in the most at risk groups is going to be over 85%.

Frazzled6 · 12/02/2021 16:59

I think the uptake is amazing. It's lovely that nights are now drawing out too and once we are through February into the spring hopefully our spirits will be a little higher too.

MaddieElla · 12/02/2021 17:15

Who would have believed this would happen? We had a fab start but I was worried we'd slow down or hit problems. We've just jab jab jabbed our socks off to 14 million doses in a matter of weeks. 🥳🥳🥳

Paddy1234 · 12/02/2021 17:20

Well done to the jabbers ❤️

Abracadabra12345 · 12/02/2021 17:24

I work in early years which have just been added to eligible social care groups and have booked to get my first jab on Monday!

Londt · 12/02/2021 17:26

Christ almighty!!! I wasn’t expecting that! 🥳🥳 it’s jabbin jabtastic!

All of those people potentially saved, it’s incredible. Surely life will start getting back on track now?

ChristmasinJune · 12/02/2021 17:29

I'm interested to hear that as Liverpool has just sent out a letter stating categorically that early years staff are not eligible and this was decided at a national level.

Sounds like not all areas are in the same page though.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 12/02/2021 18:02

Same, I’m a childminder and we’ve been told nope.

yellowspanner · 12/02/2021 18:17

That's amazing news.
Where are you all getting the stats from? Can someone please post a link.

CoffeeandCroissant · 12/02/2021 18:20

0 deaths, only 4 severe cases among 523,000 fully vaccinated Israelis.

An Israeli healthcare provider that has vaccinated half a million people with both doses of the Pfizer vaccine says that only 544 people — or 0.1% — have been subsequently diagnosed with the coronavirus, there have been four severe cases, and no people have died.

Can't believe it, I'm supposed to be priority group 7 (I'm 64 with no underlying condition) and have been called for my first vaccination on Tuesday! Feel very positive now for the first time in months. Want to thank all the volunteers signing up to help 👏

Group 6 being called here (Beds) from next week.

AllAroundTheWrekin · 12/02/2021 18:41

Is there a list of counties and what group they are up to vaccinating?

Frazzled2207 · 12/02/2021 19:17

@AllAroundTheWrekin

I’ve only seen things broken down by region but in terms of what group they are up to, this is purely down to individual gp hubs or vaccination centres. For example two gp hubs near me, one has been on the 60-69s for some time one only had its first delivery a fortnight ago so is currently trying to get the 70+ in.
AllAroundTheWrekin · 12/02/2021 19:29

Thanks. I know our GP is finishing off the last of the over 70's. I have no idea about our local big hub.

PuzzledObserver · 12/02/2021 20:08

Do the vaccination centres have control over what groups they take? It’s a national booking system. I assumed the eligibility was based on age plus whatever is flagged up on your GP records which would make you either CEV or CV.

Flev · 12/02/2021 20:16

I work in social care, my organisation was previously only able to get our front line care home workers vaccinated but its also now open to those of us working in the community - so I have mine booked for Wednesday!

Frazzled2207 · 12/02/2021 20:20

@Flev
Very pleased to hear. Totally bonkers that you were left off.

Don’t quote me as I may be wrong but I think the national booking system enables appointments at the large centres only not the gp hubs. But instead of going through the booking system eligible groups can contact their gp. Some gp hubs probably ahead of the mass vaccination centres.

France is saying if you had covid before you only need one dose

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-56048444

LetItGoGo · 12/02/2021 20:52

I had thought Israel had done this too? Maybe it was just suggested.

LetItGoGo · 12/02/2021 20:54

In my unrandom sample of people I know, the only ones who felt a bit rough following the vaccine were the two who had had diagnosed covid already.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 12/02/2021 21:08

Today is a fantastic day!

First Friday announcement of half a million!
We have hit the famous 13.9 million!
We are, in fact, over 14 million!

And..... deaths have now hit a fall of 27.1% week on week! This is a bigger fall than both cases and hospital admissions! That is a huge thing. If it is a lockdown impact then deaths should be at a similar rate or running behind cases and hospital admissions. But they are ahead! In my head I have had a “deaths fall by over 26.5%” for a while as my figure for when I really think it is a vaccine effect. And we have broken that figure! I really think that there are now British people who are alive and wouldn’t be if it wasn’t for the vaccine.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 12/02/2021 21:17

I love it when you come and talk numbers MumGrin

Would you or anyone else happen to no what the hospital admissions or patients in hospital numbers roughly were when we started opening up first lockdown?
