This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4145954-6-3-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to observe our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain and one-legged trousers - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a truly tremendous 10,021,471 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 18.9% (or 1 in every 5.3) of all UK adults.

There’s no doubt about it - there is an unmistakable light at the end of this long, long tunnel and every day it’s getting brighter. Come on folks - let’s do this!! Grin

@SummerHouse

My mum had her jab today. I can't really explain what a big deal this is. The system is a shining example of efficiency and an absolute credit to all involved, not least staff and even more incredible, volunteers.

What a fucking army of angels.

🥳
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 11/02/2021 21:25

@Quornflakegirl

Dh had his first vaccination on Monday and I had these unexpected overwhelming feelings of relief and gratitude. He isn't cev or elderly so I can't imagine the relief people feel when their family members are in these categories.

It's hard to express this out loud as I have a lot of friends in countries that won't be vaccinated for at least a year or more and it must be so hard for them to see other countries vaccinating at such speed.

🥳
Frazzled6 · 11/02/2021 22:16

Hospital numbers are really coming down to in the region of 25k...whereas as a month ago it was nearer 40k.

PuzzledObserver · 11/02/2021 23:01

I am really looking forward to the apologies from Macron, Germany, Spain, the South African government and everyone who dissed the bold and life-saving decision of JCVI and MHRA re vaccine rollout.

Blessex · 11/02/2021 23:09

@PuzzledObserver I fear it will be like tumbleweed. Sad that there will be more people that die because of those decisions. Sad

Blessex · 11/02/2021 23:11

@PuzzledObserver not the decisions of JCVI and MHRA I hasten to add! The decisions of those countries and politicians.

At least the EU president/ commissioner/ whatever has finally admitted their mistakes. She said they were slow to buy and had mistakenly thought delivery would be instant. Well something like that.

So now hopefully they will sort their own shit out and stop blaming AZ and the UK

Blessex · 11/02/2021 23:29

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum yes I saw that. Ursula VDL finally started to accept a teeny tiny bit of responsibility herself (after throwing her deputy, the U.K., Ireland, the MHRA under a bus)

Blessex · 11/02/2021 23:30

Ah yes i forgot she also threw a perfectly good vaccine and not for profit manufacturer under a bus too.

DdraigGoch · 11/02/2021 23:47

I'm rather worried about France. Vaccine scepticism was bad enough there anyway even before the President started slinging mud around.

Blessex · 11/02/2021 23:51

@DdraigGoch yep. I am worried about a lot of countries. My DH in the Netherlands with all his friends who look unlikely to get a jab anytime before Xmas. My ex PIL in Italy who are vulnerable and haven’t heard a sausage.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 11/02/2021 23:52

Merkel had a strong word with her I reckon. That and nobody was believing it. Apart from a few jumped up leaders and the odd journalist

Germany are in decisions now with AZ to start manufacturing there as well. To get the EU supplies up. A good move for Germany if that happens. They will then have three vaccines made in their own country. Merkel is a smart lady. I wish Sturgeon would watch and learn.

DdraigGoch · 11/02/2021 23:52

On the plus side, uptake here so far is excellent. Wales figures are:
80+: 87.6%
75-79: 84.2%
70-74: 73.5%
Care home resident: 79.1%
Care home staff: 83.0%

Still rising in all of those groups too, so much for posters suggesting that care home staff were rejecting the vaccine in droves.

Blessex · 11/02/2021 23:55

@DdraigGoch good old Elton, Michael Caine, David Attenborough and The Queen. Hopefully the more positive efficacy news we get and the lack of real scare stories about severe side effects - means that uptake will continue high. The older generation have done us proud.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 11/02/2021 23:55

Hopefully a lot more vaccine supply will be available for everyone from April onwards. That seems to be what both AZ and Pfizer have said.

Does anyone know if we have been given the final data for j&j yet. Last I heard it had only been given to American.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 11/02/2021 23:59

To put it bluntly. The care home staff interviews I have seen are mostly London. About three quarters of our carers are black. They are also the group least likely to want the jab. Therefore here at least that makes sense to me.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 12/02/2021 00:48

Morph has been vaccinated

People vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine are four times less likely to spread the Coronavirus, even before they have received their second jab, according to a new study.

PuzzledObserver · 12/02/2021 08:33

It is great news, @Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum.

OTOH, we don’t want to publicise it too much in case it leads to a surge of “well I’m going to hug my mum now she’s had her vaccine.” We still need to get virus levels down a LOT.

Re other countries - yes, I’m worried too. Manaus in Brazil is going through a horrendous second wave. John Campbell’s video the other day was looking at the impact of variants, and said that the B117 strain has been found in Florida - where there were Super Bowl parties with lots of alcohol and no masks or social distancing. He’s predicting it’s going to get bad there.

FourTeaFallOut · 12/02/2021 08:37

I know this might be the rationale but I really object to the approach of shepherding people to adopt different behaviours through misleading them. It leads to all sorts of unintended consequences.

Crossing all appendages, and hoping that 2pm brings us a good indicator ahead of 4pm!
FourTeaFallOut · 12/02/2021 08:43

No, I don't have the patience to get to 4pm anymore either Grin

Friday's always a good day. 13.9m here we come.

bjjgirl · 12/02/2021 08:53

Is there any place we can find out how many jabs are being binned daily? As I think they have to if they are left over at the end of the day, so encourage ppl to attend so see if they can get one ? What time are the last vaccine appointments?

Really proud of our programme and the uk for the rollout
