10 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4145954-6-3-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to observe our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain and one-legged trousers - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a truly tremendous 10,021,471 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 18.9% (or 1 in every 5.3) of all UK adults.

There’s no doubt about it - there is an unmistakable light at the end of this long, long tunnel and every day it’s getting brighter. Come on folks - let’s do this!! Grin

It's surprisingly emotional I found!

buttery81 · 10/02/2021 23:13

We’ve been so worried about my MIL, in Cornwall. 87, immobile and very frail. Still living independently but with a lot of help. We are hundreds of miles away, my husband is CEV and we felt helpless.

Confess I cried when we heard that someone came to her home yesterday to vaccinate her.

This is a wonderful update @DenisetheMenace - thanks for sharing and congrats to your MIL. It must have brought your family such peace of mind.

Oh gosh it did buttery81, thank you.

Our daughter and SIL immediately took a leap of faith and have booked a cottage stay nearby at the beginning of May (her second jab is mid-April) with the hope of introducing her to her first great-grandchild (under whatever SD requirements are in place then).
🤞

I’m hoping for 13.4 million today - probably a bit ambitious considering the cold weather, but still! Anything over 13.25 million will be fantastic, because we will then have given 1 in 4 UK adults their 1st dose of vaccine - a tremendous achievement.

It’s due to get a bit warmer on Sunday where I am, then much warmer from Monday onwards, which is good news for the rollout. Onwards and upwards! Grin

Numbers could be very high today, there has definitely been a real media push to get more people jabbed. I'll be optimistic and say over 13.5m.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 11/02/2021 09:53

You think despite the snow?

Frazzled6 · 11/02/2021 10:16

Yes, I think so, they managed over 400k (reported) yesterday.

I suspect they may have been able to divert vaccines to centres that are open in order to speed those areas up.

Over 400k

1 in 4 adults
Fingers crossed

We need a new thread name! 13 million :)

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 11/02/2021 12:07

By the time a new thread is made we should be over 15 million ❤🥳❤🥳❤🥳

CoffeeandCroissant · 11/02/2021 12:26

Going over 16 million will a also be a significant number:

JCVI priority groups 1 to 9, estimated to be around 27 million people in England and 32 million people in total across the UK, so once we go over 16 million for the UK we will have the majority (50% and a bit) of the 9 priority groups vaccinated and will be just over halfway towards the target of (first dose) vaccinating all 9 groups (target date end of April/ beginning of May?)

CoffeeandCroissant · 11/02/2021 12:26

*will also be

In case anyone following this thread is in/has family in the US, there’s a new tool launched by NBC today to give you advice on the rollout for your state (what to bring to appointment etc.), eligibility, progress through categories, notification process etc.

It’s quite interesting to click through and see the variation between states even if you’re not US-based.

CaveMum · 11/02/2021 14:27

From @HugoGye

338,855 first doses and 4,092 second doses for England
63,507 in Scotland
28,786 in Wales

So we're well over 400,000 for today's data which puts us on track for 13.5 million at 4pm today.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 11/02/2021 14:44

I know there are loads of these stories but I had my first jab today. I was absolutely blown away by the process. Slick, quick, easy and everyone involved was top notch (and super friendly!). Baring a nice cup of tea and a scone while you waity afterwards, I cannot think how it could be improved Grin

Really impressive stuff!

Blessex · 11/02/2021 16:10

So 13.5m at 4pm today. Which was officially yesterday’s numbers. So I think we should be powering towards 13.9m as I type....Star
