This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4145954-6-3-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to observe our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain and one-legged trousers - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a truly tremendous 10,021,471 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 18.9% (or 1 in every 5.3) of all UK adults.

There’s no doubt about it - there is an unmistakable light at the end of this long, long tunnel and every day it’s getting brighter. Come on folks - let’s do this!! Grin

@buttery81

We're over 13 million!!!! Yahoooooo!

13,058,298 people have now received their first dose of vaccine up to and including 9th February.

I do love those big round number milestones! Grin

My next target is 13,250,000. That will mean a quarter of all UK adults will have received their first dose!

We will fly pass that target tomorrow then Grin

Then onwards to that very important 13.9 million!

The number won’t be announced until tomorrow but the chances are we are already over 13.25 million!

A quarter of the adult population has been jabbed!

Another interesting thing is that the “rate of fall” of both cases and deaths seems to be increasing! The week on week fall for cases is now 27.7% whilst the week on week fall for deaths is now 25.9%. Pretty sure that this is the highest fall we have ever had for either!

More good news, thanks @Mumoftwoinprimary! It’s all going in the right direction! Smile

Latest figures

10 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!
yellowspanner · 10/02/2021 18:50

20% of all adults in UK have had at least 1 dose!
Amazing

Cuddling57 · 10/02/2021 19:08

@TheLaughingGenome May I ask what meds you are on?
Is it methotrexate?

I think it is 20% of all people - not just adults. We are within touching distance of 25% of all adults.

PILs are having theirs in a few days - both in their 60's no underlying conditions. It's great the roll out is going so well but shouldn't they now start giving the most vulnerable their second vaccination to prevent deaths rather than move onto the lower age groups? On the other hand the more people in the population vaccinated maybe the sooner we will get schools back?

The main one's a biologic called Adalimumab, otherwise known as Humira or Imraldi among other things. It comes I'm an injection pen and I jab myself at home.

I'm on various other stuff for other autoimmune & metabolic conditions too. The entirety of it all makes me buggered CEV.

That's good planning, @OhYouBadBadKitten.

Anyone noticed for a weds how low the new infections are Not been this low 3 days in a row since 11october. This has to be the vaccine kicking in.

The research for AZ shows it works more effectively with the longer gap. Pfizer is obviously a different matter. However Pfizer has been proven to work very well after only one dose according to research about to be released

People that were vaccinated first will start to have their second dose around the same time we are finishing the last couple of priority groups anyway

We will prevent more deaths by giving first jabs to more people than by using those doses to give second jabs.

FourTeaFallOut · 10/02/2021 19:59

I'm in group 4 and had my jab over a week ago. What a collosal shit I would be if I complained about not being able to double down on my coronavirus immunity in a matter of weeks when other people are completely exposed.

Blessex · 10/02/2021 20:17

@VaVaGloom but shouldn't they now start giving the most vulnerable their second vaccination to prevent deaths rather than move onto the lower age groups?

Except one dose does prevent hospitalisation and death. The second dose is a small top up and for longevity. So no. We should keep protecting those who are totally exposed.

The figures are very positive, but how do we know if it’s the vaccine or lockdown that’s behind this?

Fair enough. And by virtue of age by being in their 60's my PIL are more at risk of a worse outcome from Covid. As they are retired and sitting at home I wouldn't say they were totally exposed though, I would say there are more people performing critical jobs e.g. teachers and police who actually are 'totally exposed' - but no need to open that debate up again. Hopefully, as they are making such good progress on vaccinations, lots of lives won't now be lost unnecessarily to Covid.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 10/02/2021 21:17

Yep absolutely

Blessex · 10/02/2021 22:32

@VaVaGloom yep agree and that’s why we should crack on with getting as many first doses out as possible to those older and more vulnerable who may not be as exposed and then quickly get to those who are less vulnerable but are more exposed. Jab jab jab!

Cuddling57 · 10/02/2021 22:44

@TheLaughingGenome thanks for your reply and congrats on getting your jab Grin.

We’ve been so worried about my MIL, in Cornwall. 87, immobile and very frail. Still living independently but with a lot of help. We are hundreds of miles away, my husband is CEV and we felt helpless.

Confess I cried when we heard that someone came to her home yesterday to vaccinate her.
